You nead more than an open cheque book to build a fast car, and you nead a fair bit of skill to take it down the strip on a timed run to its potential, so a fast cars not much use if you cant drive it.

Id imagine most newage cars runing low 12s will have had similer moneys spent on them.

Greg has maybe on ran one 12.399 with mostly 12.4s and a few 12.6 runs latly on a fooked cluthc, but he has done it and hats of to him id say[:o]

I still say anyone can drive fast in a straight line

Totally agree with you there too Phil[;)]

Id say anybody can drive fast in a straight line aslo, but thats not what I said! I am refering to the techincal ability lol or ones skills to be able to get the maximum from there car from a standing start on a timed 1/4 mile run.

As Wilky says "get it right up ye" lol

Pretty sure Jools cars ( JAC) would be a strong contender...........it's packed with RCM bits and is VERY quick. As an overall package I reckon it would be the fastest round KH too.....

I know of a local newage that'll well above the current crop that should be ready by the spring.  Don't want to say too much and steal the owners thunder but anything less that 500 ain't really gonna cut it any more.

wel lcommon sense prevails. you have a 20g and it dynos 403bhp. then you put in a new turbo and the difference is like the difference between the standard and the ppp again.

so would you then agree that speculating an increase of 27bhp is an exaggeration on under speculated?

you decide as clearly you guys have the answers? or is it jealousy?

would not say it is jealousy.............more a case of liking to see proof of claims.

we all saw what happened to Pete's figures.........alot less than was expected!!

Thanks for you time, now get back to you Nazi staffcar!  [:)]

Gumball, did your car not run c360bhp on WP Rollers shortly after that on the same spec though??

If I'm totally honest, I'm not sure about those figures, as I know a guy with an MR2 Turbo that ran the day after you and got 320bhp, then when he took it back at the same spec a month or so later on, he was only running c290bhp... he talked with Dastek and was told that the set-up was wrong and people had been getting quoted higher figures than they should have been.

This isnt a dig, I just remember hearing that you didnt get close to 403bhp at a R/R Day up at WP.

Cheers,

Grant

just read the rest of this post, and not going to cause more debate, but i seem to recall gumballs car being up against a standard wr1 and a P1 with a decat and a remap which was putting out about 320bhp(sure P1 sub will correct me on the exact bhp figure) and there was nowt in it. Also at same time went up against my car when it had ecutek and dyno'd 325bhp on dyno dynamics rollers and same thing. To be honest, i dont see any signs of it being a 400bhp car, especially since it was running standard injectors and internals...., it is alot harder than some people make out to get big power out of these cars, i know how much it has taken to get my car this far and it is a lot of time and £ to try and get it right....

No need for that call folks, as I was there the day that Gumball's machine did make 403bhp on the Dastek rollers. Although it has to be said that my 1999 Legacy GT-B did make 310bhp, and the only change from standard that I knew at the time was that for some reason my secondary turbo was spooling up to 1.2 bar instead of 1 bar. Apart from that, I would have a: considered my car to be running slightly sick through the lower rev range & b: I thought that Dastek's rollers were optimistic by 20bhp purely on my results.

Horsepower can realistically only be compared one car to another when compared between however many cars on the same day, under the same conditions at the same set of rollers.

All I know is that I still have probably the quickest car here (when having to transport a full set of Ikea bedroom furniture in the back at the same time!!!)

Gumball - call Gerry then. Better still, lets get him on here and he'll confirm (as he did to 3 certain people, naming no names) that the rollers weren't running accurately that day and ALL CAR (INCLUDING YOURS) were running around 20 bhp over their true figures.

You never had 403 M8, SORRY! Gerry will confirm that if you want your bubble burst. Otherwise, let it go.

Russell

ps - within a 1 week period, my car was R/R'ed by 3 places and the BHP varied from 387 - 430. I know it doesn't have 430 so take an average.
