~ ~ Cal ~~ Posted October 10, 2006 Posted October 10, 2006 Thinking to myself, where do you stop ? Some thoughts ....... I am 30 and weans are no doubt on the horizon ( currently in intensive training []my WRX spools VERY quickly and pulls like a trainon the Stockie Rd last Sunday it blew me away, great brakes and immense damping of bumps, cambers, less roll.it is an everyday runner and does a sterling job, looks and sounds immense (IMO)lucky if I am getting 1 track day a year at the moment [] so do I need more ponies Other than prodrive springs / geom. set up I dont REALLY need anything else.....I can rip pretty much 98% of the population and new erse on a back road so why long for more. I guess it's caveman thing where flames and power yield a firmer storky and increase ones inner automotive mojo Do you guys have similar thoughts ? Sometimes feel guilty for spending too much but then again I dont swally like I used to and cars are my hobby. I yearn for a louder can but then again I love the one I have just now Is anyone out there content ?! Do you long for another marque ? I cannot see me getting anything else other than another Scooby Cal
gus the bus Posted October 10, 2006 Posted October 10, 2006 Cal, Interesting! Dont think you will ever be 100% content its all in the nature. But believe me I have had 5 scoobies and 5 other makes of car in between and guess what!!! Every time I change for another mark within a month......... yip I want to change back to a scoob! All I would say is keep your scoob and add a mod when you can afford to. I know for sure that my next change will be for another scoob unless things go seriously tits up. I've learnt my lesson after the 5th change of getting it wrong [:$][] Gus PS I NEVER feel guilty for spending any money on the scoob! I earned it I'll spend it!
cullenmin Posted October 10, 2006 Posted October 10, 2006 I've only been a proud owner of a scooby for 9 months now, and I feel the same, I can't see myself gettin another car other than another (newer) scooby. As for the modifications, I've got quite a bit to go before I am completely satisfied with power/handling/braking, but then again, as you say, where do we stop, when will we be content!?! [:^)] Rich
Bing Posted October 10, 2006 Posted October 10, 2006 Cal, I share your thoughts and have swithered over the whole issue for a while now: 1) Should I go old school for a thoroughbred? 2) What about new age? To be fair, id end up spending loads of cash on an old school to get tit the way I want it and I'd mod another new age anyway so ive decided to be satisifed with what i have and save in case anything breaks!
ANDYJDMSTI Posted October 10, 2006 Posted October 10, 2006 I can rip pretty much 98% of the population and new erse on a back road pretty strong words for a place like this. I would say i am quite content with mine just now. Although the new GT3 looks very nice []
wrxmania Posted October 10, 2006 Posted October 10, 2006 95% - some things to do - but after the "will it go boom" thoughts of the last 48 hours, I am well happy with it now [] Good post Cal.
~ ~ Cal ~~ Posted October 10, 2006 Author Posted October 10, 2006 Quote I can rip pretty much 98% of the population and new erse on a back road pretty strong words for a place like this.[] Guvna........I am referring to the UK in it's entirety mon amigo ! Pensioners included ! and I did state B-road. Playing 5-sides tonight I heard about 5 Scoobies horsing around nearby. The exhaust note of a Scooby is just ridiculoulsy appealing although that V8 Ultima left me speechless.... I cant believe how long I have gone without suspension tinkering though.......I like the ride of the WRX but the way it's rolls is a tad un-nerving. Whiteline gear is the daddy Bing - if you sell that car you are a bigger diddy than me ! CGS
fai17 Posted October 10, 2006 Posted October 10, 2006 Very interesting thread... Am i content? Answer...i think i may just change the backbox(i once said) and look where i've ended[] Where do you stop? Answer....1 When money runs out! or.............2 When your mrs run out!!![]
wrxmania Posted October 10, 2006 Posted October 10, 2006 Quote Where do you stop? Answer....1 When money runs out! or.............2 When your mrs run out!!![] VERY accurate for many people Peter! Well summed up []
spooks Posted October 10, 2006 Posted October 10, 2006 Reasonably content considering its slower than most, still there is always gonna be a part of me that wants a R34 GTR, and if I ever got one there would always be a part of me that wants a STi scoob. I dunno I have days I could gladly sell up and wonder why I bother and others I just love it and look at doing some stuff. There are defo things I would like to do, not to keep up with the jones's, but to genuinly appreciate the car more, but then a part of me says but why should I........ I think pretty much everyone feels the same way as you Cal. thought provoking thread btw.......... was about to ramble on for ages before I edited it out LOL
Bing Posted October 10, 2006 Posted October 10, 2006 Cal, get the springs and Whitline ALK and im sure that will put you at ease (for a while), Im sometimes not too happy with things and want more power etc but after a we play tonight....65, change 95, change ... still 2 more to go im quite happy

WHITEUK Posted October 10, 2006 Posted October 10, 2006 I can rip pretty much 98% of the population, In a WRX? 280bhp?
~ ~ Cal ~~ Posted October 10, 2006 Author Posted October 10, 2006 Quote I can rip pretty much 98% of the population, In a WRX? 280bhp? Don't hate the player hate the game boyo ! Jaysus it was a passing to comment to reflect the fact that I should by happy with my car given that i could smoke the majority of the motoring public on a B-road. 280 might sound hee haw but with uprated brakes and some suspension mods I can urinate on a lot of joe-publics bonnets. If I had said "smoke 98% of the SIDC on a dual carriage way " then you could mock my phrase........ Back on topic..............as the yanks say " enough already " [] Cal p.s you missed the new erse bit []
ally-b Posted October 10, 2006 Posted October 10, 2006 I agree wholeheartedly Cal. We all went on a wee run once ... and the posts made after the event suggested that my car was very fast and that some of the guys were struggling to keep up - truth was , my turbo was utterly shagged (no fins left ! ) and could not produce more than 0.5bar !. I just drove smoothly and avoided any heavy braking ... trying my best to read the road ahead . If I remember correctly , one cars brakes even went on fire that night . My only mods at that time were front strut-brace and powerflex droplinks. Al.
scoobaroo Posted October 10, 2006 Posted October 10, 2006 Great post Cal. No man is ever happy, its like boxing, theres always someone whos eventually gonna take your title, if you know what i mean. Compared to the majority of other road users, the Scoob will wipe the floor with them, and modding is just the icing on the cake. Pound for pound id say the Imprezas is the best of the best. Try buying something even near the power and handling capabilities of the Scoob and your looking at Supercar prices. Our cars have bags of character, which some other marques can only dream of, which brings me back to your original point, which is to enjoy it, in whatever shape, or state of power it has under the bonnet. Drive and enjoy [] [] [] [] [] p.s. was i with you on that one Ally [] Marty.

STi_Bandit Posted October 10, 2006 Posted October 10, 2006 Ill be happy when i rip out the standard subaru headunit, words cannot describe how uttlerly terrible it is. and maybe a rear wash wipe, but part from that i love it Bandit
micra_wrc Posted October 10, 2006 Posted October 10, 2006 I'm content. I've always been a "classic" girl and my first scoob is a STi RA! [] [] there are some cosmetic changes i want to make but I'm happy with everything under the bonnet and the way she handles.
st3ph3n Posted October 10, 2006 Posted October 10, 2006 I've had this dillema a few times in the last 6-8 months. I was doing 60 miles a day on the M8 bored stiff, and then it looked like regular trips down south were on the cards at maybe 400 mile roundtrips. Things worked out different and now I've changed my commute to 10 miles a day and longer on the train and she turned out to be loony tunes []. So now I have a car that I jump into at weekends and can really enjoy again because driving it is a privilege, not a chore. The project isn't finished, and even when it is, if it ever is, I don't think I'll be trading it in any time soon. If I really ask myself "what next?" then it'd have to be an STI in a couple of years. I don't see anything else on the market in my price range that really tempts me. I'm sure we'd all love a 911 turbo or GT3, or a ferrari, or a collection of cars like the sultan of brunei, but it's just not happening.
Bing Posted October 10, 2006 Posted October 10, 2006 I have first hand experience of the point Cal is making, whilst 280 BHP in a Subaru may seem mediocre these days by far the biggest advantage in having a quick car is the driver him/her self. Do I think Cal is a stig = would not know, do I think im a stig = no. I have had the opportunity to have been in the pax seat in may car whist been driven by an ex rally driver and through a section of B roads and I can say that the road was covered at approx 35% quicker than I could ever manage. So, before going for an extra 4.238 BHP at £200 I think ill concentrate on driving. Peter, I like your car, I like the brakes, I like the power. The delivery is good throughout the rev range although you only seemd to use 5-7.5k revs[]
~ ~ Cal ~~ Posted October 10, 2006 Author Posted October 10, 2006 Funny you should mention The Stig ! Just bought this for my old boys xmas from Ebay Right enough Stevie....................sometimes £200 spent on road going high performance tuition would be way more effective than some mods. My work have put me on 3 advanced drive training days on B-roads and skid pan training. All 3 days were immense........other than driving safely, they taught you to read the road like you would not believe. ( a point Ally-B made too) As for being content.................I spend my evenings watching anti-lag footage on the net. So I dont think I will ever be fully content so sensible modding is the way forward in the meantime. If it wasn't for Knockhill and the Tinternet I would not be such a jibbering modding ho' [] Ach aye ! CGS
z1000 Posted October 10, 2006 Posted October 10, 2006 Well i thought 315/320 BHP would be enough for anyman but a couple of trackdays soon put paid to that idea so full decat/ bigger turbo and a remap are on the cards and hopefully that should keep me grinning a while longer but then it'll be some AP 6 pots to haul it all back in again and probably some defi's to keep an eye on things [8-)] Thing is there will always be someone with a faster/better car that'll make you think [^o)] Personally i think doing it know before kids and a mortgage is the way to go as i may never have another chance until i'm old and grey and over the hill (40+) Also as far as other marques i love all cars and thought about an evo or similar but the scoobs already great so can only get better. Sometimes though a nice big comfy beemer would be good for cruising [*-)]
