~ ~ Cal ~~ Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 What options are you PCP guys using ? Here's the Subaru one :- http://www.subaru.co.uk/IMGGB/WWW/Subaru_c...FF?Opendocument Is it any use ? What about these guys ? http://www.carpages.co.uk/info/subarucontracthire.asp let's hear what y'all are using My Scoob is now paid off and I am now wondering whether to mod it to death or buy a hawk-eye Thanks Cal
st3ph3n Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 PCP? Cal, that's a serious drug mate. That shit will **** you right up. But seriously - PCP's are a right lot of pish. Get an unsecured bank loan. They're practically pulling people off the street to give them one at low low rates. PCP seems like a great idea at the time, but it always ends up being rubbish, unless you get a jammy break with residuals and depreciation. Remember the grey import route too. []
craigwrx Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 With my personal experience of PCP, i would not go that route again, i believe it works out more expensive in the end. 1 - Traditionally they like you to sign you up for an 8-10,000 mile a year contract and charge you the earth if you go over it. Yes you can demand more, but the cost is high 2- Not allowed to mod the car in anyway shape or form - Subaru's are built too mod imo .. 3 - Very expensive to get out of quickly if the need arises
~ ~ Cal ~~ Posted September 21, 2006 Author Posted September 21, 2006 Hmmm - I thought point 3 above would be a reason to go for it but it sounds keich...... My wifes VW Polo is on PCP and seemed an alright deal. In the past i have always gone via the unsecured loan route though. As for modding, it's another issue - I know of a certain member who has gone beyond the call of duty on this one but i suppose it depends if you want to always hand it back... last year I was paying £600 a month and it's good not having that payment now. But my car is now 4 years old and despite the fact I have it the way I want it ( almost) I just feel that it's a now or never as weans are likely 18 months away. Other option is to get a sensible breif and go bonkers on the 'rex. But I would end up ditching the sensible mobile every time. Cheers cal
gus the bus Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 Cal, If your current car is payed off then I'd imagine that would give you a sizeable deposit!!? No point in going the PCP route better going the low APR personal loan route IMHO. I did that with the current car £7.5k equivalent deposit and pay a small ish amount per month. Certainly under half of your £600 per month[] Gus
craig mac Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 Mine is PCP I can buy it after 3 years old for mucho cheapness, cheaper than you would think[] and i know the car from new, not buying a modded then unmodded "standard" never been thrashed second hand one with a possibly dodgy service history[:|] And it has not been modded[*-)] All for 400 a month woo hoo Craig
~ ~ Cal ~~ Posted September 21, 2006 Author Posted September 21, 2006 Macca - do you have a URL for that outfit ? Thanks CGS
andy Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 Do not, under any circumstances, deal with Clark Autolease. Despite the name, I should state they are nothing to do with Arnold Clark. Order (in writing) a UK Spec car and you get a Maltese import not to UK Spec. Legal battle ensues. Long story. Avoid at all costs.
big den Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 Marks & Spencer money are offering a Car purchase loan where you can defer up to 60% (depending on the term you choose) - 6.4% apr http://www6.marksandspencer.com/pages/defa...&Product=BP I do not work for M&S blah de blah...... or there a re a few Banks offering 5.7% Apr - northern rock, etc. Some Subaru dealers were offering a reasonable APR earlier in the year - don't know about just now though Den
jcscoob Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 "paying £600 a month " [] "400 a month " [] Bloodie hell lads thats a lot of comitment, mine costs me nothing a month, saved up for it. And the wifes costs us £20 a week each, but not to long on that now. Cal, keep yer penneys for the now mate, mod yer motor to a mad/safe level and enjoy it, and have that wee bit extra cash in yer pocket for a while, and once the new hatch scoob is launched they will be giving the hawkeyes away, plus its great being the underdog []
st3ph3n Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 I've got to agree with JC here actually. I'm paying out handsomely on mine, and look forward to the loan finishing. In the past I'd have just traded up at that point, but I think I'm gonna keep my baby for a while yet. Mo' money, mo' mods. Unless I get promotion and a Spec C gets in range. Oh yes.
craig mac Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 Cal as requested http://www.vehicleoptions.biz/ Craig
colin_ross Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 Quote Other option is to get a sensible breif and go bonkers on the 'rex. Bingo bongo. Having gone down this route myself I'd recommend it. I've no fear about modding the car to the hilt and it's not a problem if I have to take it off the road for a month or two. Plus you get more value from the mods, when I get in my Subaru after 2 weeks running to work'n back in the focus it still feels fast. Don't know if it would if I was driving it every day.
clutdav Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 Quote £2600 a month for both our cars [] Ouch dude that's gotta hurt.........................£800-ish for both of ours. Dave

WUZ Posted September 22, 2006 Posted September 22, 2006 Ac!d - your making me feel guilty M8, seeing as I am going to "steal" all this money off you! Russell ps - doesn't mean you'll be getting the bits any cheaper![:#]
RA Dunk Posted September 22, 2006 Posted September 22, 2006 aye out of the frying pan into the fire lol [] stealing would be a harsh word to use, i prefer to think of it as "borrowing your expertise and wealth of knoweledge in exchange for money" plus theres a few bits to go on the car as well that your providing lol []
