philip_wilson Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 I was just thinking we can make the CLUB EVENTS "carbon neutral". It looks good for the club, could gain us some publicity which in turn could boost member numbers, which could help us get better deals or give us more power to continue the excellent charity work we are already doing. I can just see the publicity, SIDC Member "Yes, well we are doing this tree humping thingy cos alot of us drive de-catted cars which is causing pollution blah blah blah blah snore" Mr Media Person " ooohhh, so alot of you are infact breaking the law and felt guilty about it, i do not think this token effort really cuts the mustard" Mr Copper (Upon getting wind or said tree hugging actions) "Ho ho ho.........wait til i get on the roads, every scooby is gonna get pulled" Also, why do you think SIDC needs more power to do charity work?? From what i have seen the fundraising abilities speak for themselves. Boost Member numbers?.........what are the flyers/ club stand at events for?? Better deals?.........do we not get damn good deals as it is, i somehow do not think that the deals we already get were due to the fund raising the club does but more to do with the hard work of individuals who take time to negotiate/ talk with establishments i.e Aberdeen area with T+C and all the work Phil does. P.S - I would rather use that 1 or 5 quid for the life giving V-Power. Cheerio [] Agreed. Furthermore with regards to boosting number with the "hug-a-tree" campain; this is not only silly but contradictory. Our numbers are attracted by owning and driving gas-guzzling road monsters - caring about trees (though i have nothing againt them) and promoting these "save the world" ideas will actually drive potential members away. We are at opposite ends of the scale and the two shall never meet! Its like having paedo-day at Disney! That's just not going to fly I'm afraid! Bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla SAVE THE TREE
MikeWRX Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 So would we have to sell our imprezas and buy foresters?
the squiggle Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 It is like the Scottish Exec banning smoking in confined public spaces. So after you have had a meal in the new smoke free atmosphere you can pop outside and inhale about a million different cancer causing chemicals that is being emitted from the exhaust of the passing 1973 tourist bus. Walking 100yds down Argyle Street in Glasgow on a Saturday afternoon will expose you to more cancer causing chemicals than smoking 1000 cigerettes More than happy for Global warming to occur as Scotland could do with a wee heat up and i stay on a hill, so it will take a while for sea level to reach my doorstep Bandit..........OUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Craigwrx.... i am up for that...................[]
the squiggle Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 And furthermore, the biggest contributer of greenhouse gasses is not from vehicle emissions but from animal emissions. I am not going to be ramming corks up a cows back end am i
Gumball Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 lol, mixed views in a democratic society. Summary- I think that this nonsense is possibly the gayest idea i have seen during my 2 years in SIDC. It really cant be swept under the carpet in relation to the homosexual tendancies around this proposal and quite frankly its contrevenes every hetrosexual ethos i have ever agreed with. As Andy mentioned, it is hypocracy of the highest order and will/would in turn generate the wrong kind of publicity from anyone who is intelliegent enough to see why any of us would chose to carry out this captain fantastic minded tripe. Perhaps we could complete the arduous task of planting trees in a location that potentially would see us charged under some VISIT SCOTLAND abuse law then fire ourselves into the nearet canal? I personally dont see the link between driving performance cars and planting trees. People that have agreed with the idea do so in the vain hope that they can join in and reep the reward for the idea/act rather than the gesture behind it. "Yes i was one of the boring rods that planted a tree with SIDC in 2006. I did it to further my own ego kids" This is my opinion(key word)
st3ph3n Posted September 20, 2006 Author Posted September 20, 2006 The fact of the matter about publicising the club is this - it is publicised at events we attend. Which Subaru owners are likely to attend those events? Oh yes, ones already in the club. Appearing in the jap mags or wherever can only be good for the club. And what's this saying we don't need more power to do charity work? Wilky et al did a fantastic job with the RB relay and the Santa Cruise is progressing along very nicely, but there's always room to do more for charity. We shouldn't stop until we can get bono to shut the **** up with his shite. So in closing - get it right up the lot of you. If you don't want to do it then that's fine. Lets see what ideas you can come up with for bettering the club.

~ ~ Cal ~~ Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 This faggo1 banter has gone to far.................G-ball, I think you need to get laid big chap. I feel ill coming on this forum at the moment [+o(] [] As for the idea Stephen, I see where you are coming from ....but there's more chance of G-ball getting laid than us planting trees []
gogsie Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 This is GOAT to be the funniest thread yet. PMSL several times especially the pics. Yeh planting trees certainly wouldn't do any harm especially if it's native scottish tree's instead of bloody pine tree's everywhere. And by the way the rest of the undeveloped world are cutting them down at such a rate that we may need the wood very soon. NO hard on jokes it's too obvious.
Gumball Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 LOL Cal if you feel sick then maybe you should lie down As for getting laid? thanks for the offer but ill pass, your not my type[+o(] ill stick to women
ANDYJDMSTI Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 Appearing in the jap mags or wherever can only be good for the club. So in closing - get it right up the lot of you. Appearing in Jap mags is a good idea but not to be labelled as Green welly, johdpur wearing dipsh1ts. And as for the second comment, do you really think that is a consructive comment from what is supposed to be a self proclaimed "moderator". From what has been raised in this thread, points FOR and AGAINST, maybe you should take a step back if you cannot handle it when the downsides/ disagreements are brought up. Not everyone is going to massage your ego by saying what a great idea and what a super person you are for thinking of it. Aaaaahhh.........i love a good ole fashioned democracy!!! []
st3ph3n Posted September 20, 2006 Author Posted September 20, 2006 I don't see how I can be a "self proclaimed moderator" when a moderator has to be given moderator powers by administration. You were all more than welcome to volunteer to help the club out and manage the website, but it seems I was the only one blatantly stupid enough to even volunteer for the job. I didn't post this to get my ego massaged either. I posted it because I thought it was a good idea. I don't mind the criticism either, in fact I'd be disappointed if there wasn't a bit of ribbing. I am disappointed that out of all the messages saying it wasn't a good idea only 3 people could actually summon up good reasons (yourself included Andy, it could well be hypocritical and too much of a token gesture) not to go for it. The rest just jumped on the bandwagon to fit in with the cool kids and have a go at it. As for the second comment. Are moderators not allowed to make a joke too? A good old fashioned democracy indeed. If your face fits then they'll all agree with you.
andy Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 As for getting laid? thanks for the offer but ill pass, your not my type[+o(] ill stick to women Not if you wipe the pages straight after []
thewelsho Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 .... only 3 people could actually summon up good reasons (yourself included Andy....) So who was the other one then? []
ANDYJDMSTI Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 Bandwagoning is a part of life, you will always get it. Like you say you expected ribbing etc so you just gotta take the non applicable reasons / p1ss taking on the chin. Joke??........c'mon, i could guarantee the majority of people who read that will think you have the hump. Another fact of life that the position you are in you will be scrutinised more than most when comments like that "slip" from your keyboard. Go on you can tell me........you had a little bit of a monk on didn't you??? [] It has nothing to do with face fitting, has everything to do with probably being the wrong sort of topic that not many people have an interest in. You never know til you throw it out there but you gotta like you say expect the rough with the smoothe. []
frank c Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 Tend to agree St3ph3n... Worth a try though... ) Frank
st3ph3n Posted September 20, 2006 Author Posted September 20, 2006 It was a joke. Honest. I guess I need to load it up with smilies. Can't infer sarcasm in plain text. That's not to say I wasn't disappointed of course. But hey, I tried. To celebrate fantastic failure I will now disappear off into the night to toss some goats. Thanks for the trees.
