z1000 Posted September 17, 2006 Posted September 17, 2006 I know a couple of other were going fishing esterday so just wondered how everyone got on ? I was a Bowhill and brought home 3 rainbows for 8.5 lbs but had 13 for the day between 2 of us. Steve
zeolite Posted September 18, 2006 Posted September 18, 2006 Well I caught nothing! Mind you wild fish aren't in the same league as pellet fed stockies IMHO [] On the Grantown assoc stretch of the Spey on Saturday. The river was a foot up and very peaty but I persevered with the fly even though the locals wee out with big Rapalas and Tobies. However no joy with my Cascades and Pot belly pigs. fantastic day though and lovely stretch of water.
the squiggle Posted September 18, 2006 Posted September 18, 2006 On Saturday night i fished round Anderston and caught some crabs
zeolite Posted September 18, 2006 Posted September 18, 2006 On Saturday night i fished round Anderston and caught some crabs You know if it was anyone other than you Grant I would have told them off for some crappy OT remarks but since it is you I know it is all true. Gonna get the life story serialised in the News of the World? I'd buy it. []
Gumball Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 We went to Middleton in Largs (stockie bashing Ian) and caught 4 for 13lb which wasnt bad. I was thinking of you when i was down there and the stockie bashing comments. it wasnt that easy when i caught zero on sunday !!! I think if your bait fishing stockies then its a canter but the flies definately have to be different and a fair bit harder.
G.T. Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 never mind middleton chris go to fairlie moor fishery much better than midleton
Gumball Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 Middleton seem to have something wrong with the fish. I foul hooked one and that aside it had some kinda boiling skin desease. Peter and I also saw one down there that swam on its side. i wouldnt eat anything i caught out of there. Swanswater wednesday afternoon then fairlie moor Saturday morning
G.T. Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 middleton is just a square hole in the ground fairlie is quality , harder to catch fish there mind you. but the views and scenery are second to none.
Big Daz Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 Swanswater is quite good, haven't been down there this year but had a good few days there last year. My fishing this year has been restricted to carlogie dam in Carnoustie and a couple of times at Kingennie. Never blanked but nothing to shout about either. Daz

z1000 Posted September 19, 2006 Author Posted September 19, 2006 Middleton seem to have something wrong with the fish. I foul hooked one and that aside it had some kinda boiling skin desease. Peter and I also saw one down there that swam on its side. i wouldnt eat anything i caught out of there. Swanswater wednesday afternoon then fairlie moor Saturday morning The 4 lb i caught had something like that and came in like a log, the guy i was fishing with reckons it got damaged when they stocked it. I gave it to the neighbours so hope its not some nasty toxic disease !
Gumball Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 LOL, by the looks of the fish it seemed to have some hideous ailment. i wouldnt eat anything from in there and to be honest probably wont fish it again. Fairlie Swanswater Burnhouse in Allandale is good Lawfield Wellsfield in stirling has good sized fish in it I also want to get up to lake monti
Big Daz Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 Ask if you can see around the fishery at Swanswater, the owner has some very "different" breeds - tiger trout for example which look really scary !![] Oh & the golden trout in two of the wee ponds are very difficult to catch - I spent a good few hours trying - almost contenplated jumping in after one as it was taking the pi** that much LOL There is a deep channel up the right hand side of the loch that has some monster type things in - took all my line and broke me off on a previous visit! Daz
Gumball Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 whats teh deal up there. i understand that there are permits for the swanswater and a permit for the other two? can yo unot just hop about between them all? what ones best?
Big Daz Posted September 19, 2006 Posted September 19, 2006 Might have changed it since last year then! Canny mind TBH I am sure we just paid for the big loch & after a scorching day of very little happening we just went across to the other ponds for the last few hours. The main Loch is best without a doubt, the top end is pretty shallow though - floating line only Daz
