Guest AlanK Posted August 31, 2006 Posted August 31, 2006 Not long had my scoobie but service is due in months time according to the window sticker. Asked the dealership who serviced it before a few questions and enquired about next service. Apparently its the 90K service (although car only has 30K) its due. I dont want to stopp the FSSH it has but he was talking about 400 quid plus Still worth keeping the Subaru service going? Also just fitted a green pannel filter. I had to cut not only the half circles rubber nubs of the sides but also the rest of the nub as it still would not fit. Also had to cut the 1/2 circle of the top and bottom short sides to get it in. End result is not all that impresive, in fact I am not convinced it hasn't made things worse - have only done a few miles up and down the Bypass and a quick hammer on a few back roads but not sure... problem is I aint driven it all week and was dirving a Primera so cant really say for sure (other than I will never never ever buy a nissan - 500 miles on the clock and it drove like a big old wobbly thing - couldn't even wheel spin as the clutch just went up in flames... well almost) AK
st3ph3n Posted August 31, 2006 Posted August 31, 2006 Get some prices from specialists - Hypertech in Bonnybridge, Extreme in Whitburn, AWD in Perth maybe too. I've had my MY05 car serviced mostly by Hypertech and I will continue to.
Guest AlanK Posted August 31, 2006 Posted August 31, 2006 Oh yeah- and apparently it has 5/30 Fully Synth oil in it (thats why I called in the first instance) - aint that a bit iffy for hard driving?? I thought it was more like 5/10-40/50 type it should have....
craigwrx Posted August 31, 2006 Posted August 31, 2006 As per Stephen, i would fully recommend Hypertech ..approved to, so they can stamp ur service record ..

I thought it was more like 5/10-40/50 type it should have.... As for the Oil i am running Millers cft fully synthetic,10/60 which is good for 160 degrees c before any break down of the oil starts. I changed it after the last track day when ones oil gauge was reading 130 degrees with the Shell Helix Ultra its threshold is 120 to 130 degrees [] Hence instant oil change[] Millers was recommended by a very good reliable source too[] And i know that i wont have to worry about it so much at Knockers in October [] Craig
z1000 Posted August 31, 2006 Posted August 31, 2006 Mines has always run 5w/30 and done a few track days before i bought it plus 2 in my ownership with no probs.
darryl_martin Posted September 1, 2006 Posted September 1, 2006 Think for oil you should be looking for something a bit thicker, 10w50-60'ish. £400 sounds cheap for a 90000 mile service to me, from a dealer. I was expecting mine to be about £700, but never found out as I sold the car[]. Def try a specialist. Seem more flexible than dealers, ie if you just want an oil change, or intermediate service, or a cambelt etc that's what you get, not you are due a 30000 mile service, therefore you WILL get a 30000 mile service or your car will blow up and all the wheels fall off!![]. Had to give my green filter quite a trim, but not had a problem with it. Is it sitting right in the airbox, mine was quite a job to get in. P.S when I traded mine in the dealer didn't seem bothered it didn't have a subaru history (it was specialist), more that it had just been serviced by someone. Surprised me a bit tbh.
Guest AlanK Posted September 1, 2006 Posted September 1, 2006 Will speak to dealership again when due and also the others suggested, esp if they can still stamp the book as Subaru - it has always been service by same place (they actually owned car originally) so would like to keep that going but will bow to better price being offered. Will see if I can compare filters at the weekend to see if it is just me - glad to know I was not alone in getting the stupid thing in - never had such a problem putting in something as simple as a filter so now definately decided that any mods will be done by the garage after that escapade. Alan
st3ph3n Posted September 1, 2006 Posted September 1, 2006 Hypertech don't put a Subaru stamp, but they do stamp the book. Any VAT registered garage can carry out a service to maintain the warranty. However you no longer have a warranty anyway.
Fly Posted September 1, 2006 Posted September 1, 2006 millers cft for me aswell 10/60 just been serviced aswell thats me for another 2.5k lol Ross
Guest AlanK Posted September 1, 2006 Posted September 1, 2006 ( Back to the dealership then Its a classic with low mileage, PPP from new and FSSH (service every 30 - 40 miles early on in time rather than milage) - I would be daft to stop the trend now even if it is costly,,,,, erm at least I think so....
Fly Posted September 1, 2006 Posted September 1, 2006 not really mate why not try another dealership?
scoobyseller555 Posted September 1, 2006 Posted September 1, 2006 why not try us! sidc discount and we will do what you want done,i.e if you just want an oil and filter then thats what you will get! Gav
wrxmania Posted September 1, 2006 Posted September 1, 2006 I'll second that - I moved from the dealer your car came from to Ian Grieve for the service, which is more personal. Brian []
Guest AlanK Posted September 1, 2006 Posted September 1, 2006 I have a few contacts in the trade that could service it quite happily and of course the recomended garages in this thread (which I have taken not of) but its just the Subarua Service history that it has had since it was born I would like to keep (at least I think I would) Its good to look at a service log book and see that it is stamped every 30-40 miles Having said that not sure that it is ever gonna be worth it on a 6yr old car - need to way up the FSSH vs the reputible garage....
fai17 Posted September 1, 2006 Posted September 1, 2006 Dealer will be a lot dearer than a specailist...on a older car i would go with the later.
Guest AlanK Posted October 17, 2006 Posted October 17, 2006 Well back here at this thread again. Looks like I will skip the dealership as the cars 6 years old now, even if it is a low mileage I doubt I will get anything out of staying at Nobles. Garage I know and trust have offered to service it for me but they are no specialist so still torn between this and one of the garages mentioned above. Based in Edinburgh so driving elsewhere to get a service could be problematic as I dont fancy walking around falkirk all day (for example) Service is due by the 22nd so time to book something me thinks - not sure what actually needs done which is one reason I think a dealership or specialist will probably win here... (oh and will they be able to replace the bracket the alarm siren attaches too which for the 2nd time is about to snap in half) Alan
jodie typeRA Posted October 17, 2006 Posted October 17, 2006 alan there is a garage on robertson ave just off gorgie road ... thay deal in alot off classic cars in might be worth popping in there and askin them .... (cant remember the name off it)
frank c Posted October 17, 2006 Posted October 17, 2006 Where do you usually take your car Alan , i'm always on the look out for a decent local garage. ps; thought i passed you last week near Asda. Car looks good. Like the wheels too Frank
gus the bus Posted October 17, 2006 Posted October 17, 2006 Quote Based in Edinburgh so driving elsewhere to get a service could be problematic as I dont fancy walking around falkirk all day If you speak to Charlie @ Ian Grieve he will sort you out with a loan car for the day whilst yours is in for Service[Y] so no hanging about all day[] Gus
Guest AlanK Posted October 18, 2006 Posted October 18, 2006 Hi Frank Not got a grage - hence this thread.. will let you know what I end up doing and how it goes. Probably my car if your talking about Asda at the Jewel as I live over this side of town - cant miss the PIAA covers and blacked out back end. Cheers for the comments, I did not like the wheels originally but have had a few comments about them now which had made me change my mind...its clearly just me lacking any taste
frank c Posted October 18, 2006 Posted October 18, 2006 I'm a bit biased about the wheels as i've got a new set the same to go on mine ) Not easy to find them now either. I'm up and down there all the time as i work at Dingbro just along the road.
