thewelsho Posted August 10, 2006 Posted August 10, 2006 At long last, new springs fitted! Not sure about the handling improvment, not had the time to push it as yet. In fact, I think I will go and do that now. Here are some pics... Before ... After ...

4Hero Posted August 10, 2006 Posted August 10, 2006 it's amazing what you can do with photoshop [] kidding mate, looks great!
oobster Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 Looking good John - whats next on the mod list? Did you get that wee mark on your alloy wheel sorted by the way?
thewelsho Posted August 11, 2006 Author Posted August 11, 2006 Woooo Hooo!!!! Just back from a short stint across some local twisties to test the new set up and it was unbelievable. To say that I’d be happy with the aesthetic properties of lowering the car, would be true, however, lurking beneath that “low to the ground mean look”, is some seriously excellent handling performance! Greatly improved grip in the corners, responsive turn in, understeer non-existent and the ability to jump on the gas on the exit; breathtaking! Can’t wait to really put it to the test in the next Ally-b Grand Prix! Thanks guys! Andy, just patched the mark myself with some gold paint; doesn't look great but I'll do till I get more damage. After winter, I'll get that mark and the rest that will inevitably follow. Next on the mod list was a front slpitter, but I doubt that I have the clearance now to get it in the driveway, so I dunno! I think I'll give it a rest till after Christmas, or maybe see if Santa will bring me something. John
craigwrx Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 This is how they should come of the production line, but then it would take the phun away ... Have to agree with you on the handling, when i first took my scooby for a real drive, understeer was a major issue (for me) ...the teins as you have mentioned, nearly completely do away with this issue, along with a few others. When i have the pennies, i am going for some rear droplinks [Y] Glad ur pleased mate Craig
thewelsho Posted August 11, 2006 Author Posted August 11, 2006 Craig Got the drop links done too. Duncan suggested an anti lift kit next. And you're right, that is the way they should come into the world. It might take the fun away, but it would also take the cost away too! John
gus the bus Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 ALK and uprated ARBs are on my wishlist. Mine too[] along with the droplinks! gonna wait until I can afford all before I get it done tho. Fit all in one go with the Geometry re-set.

I will get the droplinks, not sure about anything else, if i put her on the track often then yes for sure, but for a road car maybe the springs and droplinks are enough ?
thewelsho Posted August 11, 2006 Author Posted August 11, 2006 ALK and uprated ARBs are on my wishlist. And that is? I really think you ought to invest in some rubber before anything else! BTW YHMP.
rallye6 Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 worth the wait Gus, the transformation to the car will be like night and day. the best mod I have done yet, you wont be disappointed. brian[H]

I don't think the word "enough" can ever be used while modding Scoobies, road, track or otherwise!

st3ph3n Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 ALK = Anti-lif Kit obviously. Something to do with moving the control arms to a position that adds negative castor and reduces lift under acceleration. Hence the ALK name. ARB = Anti-roll bars. Basically you fit better ones that reduce flex and neutralise the handling even more, or even promote a bit of oversteer if the right settings are used. No PMs here. Sure it's sent?
thewelsho Posted August 11, 2006 Author Posted August 11, 2006 Just noticed ur new Tein sticker [Y] Ha! Well spotted! That's the best part...
craigwrx Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 Yeah i like them myself, i have to do it slowly though ...let the wife get used to it... Company near me is making a few up atm, sun-visor, couple of www ... for the skirts, some for the mirrors, and one for the bonnet.
jimser Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 looking good mate[Y].how much do the teins lower the car?i've got the prodrive springs fitted and it still looks like its on stilts[:'(]
craigwrx Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 looking good mate[Y].how much do the teins lower the car?i've got the prodrive springs fitted and it still looks like its on stilts[:'(] Around 35mm, which is a good bit lower than the prodrive springs, this is why i went with the teins, although the ride is slightly firmer.
