I'm not for or against what the Mods have done here, I just want them to provide a clear line drawn in the sand for SIDC and members t no cross.

Free Speech was concept thats never been weather its spoken or written on paper or internet page.

Pete, when Phil returns I will be seek clarification of what is and isn't acceptable.

Personally when someone posts a scooby video and adds sound over the top then I'm annoyed because I'd rather here the car's own soundtrack.

Free speach is all well and good but you can't post inflamatory content, copyrighted content, cracks for software etc. etc.

Perhaps the folk who are having trouble coming to terms what Stephen and the others are saying should have a read of the Guide lines for forum users. This was posted on the 3rd of January 2006 by Phil Stephens (SIDC Chairman).

I would say that its put across in simple English so there shouldn't be any excuse for anyone to misunderstand the points.

If  I can follow it , anyone can.

Its a pity that the Scottish section cant follow the other "regional areas" and keep it relevant when posting on the sections.

Decency

The use of profanity will not be tolerated. Please show respect for yourself and the members of www.sidc.co.uk. Many profanities are automatically removed by the forum software any attempts to circumvent the censoring imposed by the board will be removed, repeat offenders will be warned.

If any words have been missed from the filter, please contact a moderator or administrator.

Offence towards groups

Any racist, sexist and other remarks towards a minority or specific group of people, will be deleted and the member shall be warned or banned. The Internet  is one world, colour or creed is not an issue here!

Utilising the Private Messaging system for abuse of threats is also frowned upon and action will be taken if the system is abused.

Post in English

When posting on the forums, please use English, this is not limited to foreign languages, but also don't speak entirely in all-capitals, or Text-speak, or foul language.

Also if you're able to speak good English, use your abilities - computers provide you with a full keyboard, and there is no need to shorten words to letters (for example you = u, and your = ur) therefore please use full words.

Usernames

When creating a user name, please take into account the guidelines, any abusive/bad language seen in usernames will be looked upon harshly and will more then likely be deleted on sight. Please also note that for aesthetic purposes please use short words and spaces to break up longer user names.

If you wish to alter or change your username at any time, contact an administrator via the "Current Problems" forum or through private message (Notes on contacting staff can be seen at the foot of this document).

Hacking

Hacking, cracking or other activities which involve unlawful alteration of software or access to data is forbidden. This site does not promote or want to condone the use of bypassing security of any kind. Including breaking into networks, even if you own them.

Warez

Warez is an internet term used to describe software, film, music and data piracy. Any information relating to piracy activities is strictly forbidden from this site.

This rule is not limited to warez, but also includes "keygens" and "cracks", including how to obtain or install them. This can include information on how to bypass, circumvent any software or operating system’s security protocols.

Retail Products and Services

Whilst it may be appropriate to recommend Suppliers in certain situations, we do not want for the forums to be used as an advert for your company’s product or service, therefore we ask that links to external sites only be used when suitable.

Competitive Forums

Do not post links to other forums (unless they explain and provide an answer to the specific question) Any links to a competitive forum are not welcomed (however, they are not strictly banned) and may be deleted unless they are an affiliate of SIDC or you have PREVIOUSLY approached the committee to request permission

Spam

Posts that are completely off topic in order to raise post count or generally irritate other forum users will be removed. This includes posting the same message in multiple forums, the threads will be merged and the various original posts will be removed, this also includes single-word posts and simple "I agree" posts which serve no purpose at all.

Please note that the definition of spam is subject to the admin or moderator's discretion.

Begging

Begging for worth such as Reputation Points, Elevated Status, Specific things such as GMail invites or similar goods, or even Money from Members or Staff is not allowed. Please note that this includes the use of signatures on the forums.

Thread Topics

Topics such as "help me" will often be ignored, members will be more likely to view a thread if the topic is more definitive. We want to help, however we can't if we are not lead to the thread.

Only Loafy can answer that - maybe it was asked on a thread and people generally said "go for it".

The stuff Jamie posted above has been available the whole time this forum has been running.  It is pinned to the top of the general forum.

HI SOOB, how do you know that all the people in the scottish area are scots ?? it is the fact that some people(not necessarily scottish)  find this thread locking a problem, so please dont assume that its a scottish problem as this annoys and insults me as a scot ! and if going by the sidc rules you just attached here, your post should be removed for being insulting and offensive ! isnt that right ??? practice what you preach !

i disagree with your post and cant see where Jamie (HI SOOB) said that it was scottish people said they have a problem. 

If you read his post, Jamie refers to the Scottish section, not Scottish people.

I dont see why you find his post insulting or offensive.  He copied the forum guidelines that all users should be aware of to illustrate what the guidelines of posting on this forum are.

The discussion in this thread is regarding why loafy's thread was locked and I think Jamie's post provides the clearest "line in the sand" as to what is acceptable and whats not.

Can you put forward your point a little clearer please?

This problem is a Scottish Section Problem as the post was submitted on the Scottish forum. I know that there might be similar issues in the other sections but as I said , this one started in the Scottish section.

If we look at the other Regional area sections, they would appear to have more Subaru/Club related discussion than the Scottish one.The "general" section is a better area for dumping the "O/T" posts is it not?

Please let me know how the forum guide lines can relate to any comments I have made.

If I have offended any Scottish born forum users then I am sorry, but I'm sure I have put it accross that this is not aimed at the Scottish, it is at the Scottish section.

I am open to constructive criticism on anything I have said and can take on board any valid comments.

I wont start or participate in any kind of on line battle with an individual as I have never had anyone take up any issues face to face with me yet.

There's nothing worse than forum users shouting the odds on line with no intention of resolving the issue or learning anything from the discussion.

All I was hoping to point out was the fact that Forum rules have been set for quite some time and that I thought it was relatively clear what was and was not suitable content for a post on any of the sections.

it looks like a dig to me ! but if it wasnt , then thats fine ! but this is why its an opinion thing as to why threads get locked and not difinitive and the moderators view of the guidelines. i dont think though it is a scottish section problem as there probably has been something like this thread block on other areas to that people have had a problem with too ! i do think moderators have a thankless task and cant please everyone all the time ! they are human and we are all open to mistakes . it doesnt matter what they do as someone will always agree/disagree with their decision. not a job i  could do ! ps sorry if i jumped to the wrong assumption !

As with all forums and postings, it is a matter of interpretation, whether peoples views, interpreting guidleines etc. 

In the moderators defence I must say that MANY MANY things are let go in the interests of fairness, fun and a sense of balance.  It is only when things are stopped when they go too far or are seen to upset other users that people complain.  People need to give us a chance.  We are forum users like everyone else.

Lets' all just get one - this i not real life.  Only when we meet each other at events or whatever does it become real life - the keyboard warrior is usually the person who is quite different in real life []
