Have had my Classic for 6months now so I thought Id calculate what it had cost me.

98 UK Turbo purchased Jan 06 with 74000miles ,8months MOT and 2months tax

I use the car everyday as my main mode of transport. Daily commute wrong side of Galsgow to mid Fife (approx130milesper day)

Expenditure

4 new tyres  £400

6 months Tax £85

Feul (22000miles worth) £4500 (charge to company)

Insurance  £600 (for year)  £300

Window tints £200 (essential in this weather)

Whiteline antiroll bars , bushes, castor kit £400

Set of rear pads £45

Oil n stuff £60

Polish n stuff  (aye right) £ 2.49

Depreciation  ( estimated)  £ 2500

Total for 6months £8492.49

Unbelievable!!!! No wonder that Im skint.

I know that if you use the car it costs money however I think a Diesel car may be a necessity (just need to convince the wife that having a spare Subbie in the garage is a good idea !!

Removing fuel, depreciation, road tax and insurance, which are necessaries and unavoidable, the car has cost less than £1000 for 22,000 miles - I'd say that is a bargain [:)]  And you might not need tyres for a while.  And all that money (just about) went on mods.  Great buy!

Has it been reliable in that time?

Just ignore that one Martin  - or you'd be driving a £300 car out the Autotrader!!!

Or one of your own shoddy stock from Daley Auto's [:)]

i know what you mean john

I've had my RA for 3 months now and normally use it for weekend fun

I used to keep a note of the fuel she was needing (every day driving and runs to the country) and very quickly decided not to keep such a detailed tally cos it adds up and forms a depressing picture (c£200 in month of July).

I get about 300 miles to the tank (which is good for a RA) but its surprising how often you need to rumble into a Shell garage [8-)]

I'm getting used to it now, but it was a major shift in car ownership mindset and spending.

IMO, it is totally worth owning one and i knew how much it was going to cost to run a scooby before I got one, but its nice to have a moan now and again [:)]

I'm thinking about a wee runner for during the week. Go to the auctions and spend £150 on something that will do more than 23mpg! 2 Months using it for during the week would pay for it probably.

go for a nissan micra.

the most economical and reliable car I've owned so far, though I doubt you'll be comfortable driving in such a tiddly wee car stephen LOL

Can you get diesel Micras?

If I can't get a comfortable driving position I'll just remove the front seats and drive from the back!

That and a "My other car's not shit" sticker.

try running forrester , legacy and impreza. parents have the leggy and forrester and monthly fuel bill just for those two varies between £500-£800. I just use impreza on saturdays, mostly, and that means two trips to the pump every saturday. oh its good to have a moan though.

well a year ago wheni started offshore i planned to buy an impreza but being a mere 21 at

the time insurance was a joke so instead i bought a golf vr6 and this is how much it cost

averaging 23mpg £3500 for a year

mot £600

tax £160

insurance £600

new alloys/tyres £600

new headlights thanks to a deer £120

My ASBO cos my local police force have little else to do £100

my total £5680

so iv decided that now that im 23 and have a few years no claims im joining

scoobydum very soon

I was just surprised at the total. Ive had a subaru as a second car for 3years and never really noticed the cost. Had various cheap vans, Micra( the best wee car ever, and the only car I could drive to the limit and beyond !!!) suzuki swift, and a polo. Just fancied a fast car to drive evere day as the motorway gets so boring at70. Unfortuately ive got 2 kidz so ultra cheep MR2 or even smart cars are out. Think I might go the Gumball Route (oh err missus) and get a Diesel vectra estate. Will cost less to run and I can use the money saved for more mods. [:)]
