STi_Bandit Posted July 13, 2006 Posted July 13, 2006 Ive tried everything, Alloy Wheel Cleaner, Engine Degreaser, Powerwasher, Srubbing Hard and i just cannot remove the thick dark layer of gunk (Guessing Brake Dust and general road crap) from the inside of the alloys it really is caked on. Can anyone suggest a product i can try, would like to have them looking sparkaling. Martin
AlanG Posted July 13, 2006 Posted July 13, 2006 I've used the Comma alloy wheel cleaner for a few years now and has always managed to clean all gunk off the insides of my wheels. It comes with a brush to stipulate the cleaner into the grime. Takes a bit of time, but you can see it removing the black deposits as you work the cleaner in. You can also use one of those brushes you use for cleaning dishes for the insides of wheels.

phil Posted July 13, 2006 Posted July 13, 2006 Poorboys do a wheel cleaner its strong stuff but for getting hard built up crap off I haven't found better yet

Never cleaned my wheels with them just the pots !!!
ormiboy Posted July 13, 2006 Posted July 13, 2006 wonder wheels seems to do the trick for me, made from non-ionic surfactants and dilute hydrochloric acid tho so not to be applied and left for any length of time. very good for the nasty burned in brake dust. i apply it but have a water hose nearby so that i can make sure its all away once the wheels look clean. uesd it on my last two sets of wheels with no bother so far but i obviously tested it out on the inside of a spoke first. willie
st3ph3n Posted July 13, 2006 Posted July 13, 2006 Read somewhere else saying Wonder wheels is good for that caked on dust on the insides, but to avoid using it often and on the actual rim face as it's powerful stuff. Bandit, I think you're at fast and modified this weekend. If so find the Polished Bliss stand and ask them. They'lll probably have some good quality products for sale too.
STi_Bandit Posted July 13, 2006 Author Posted July 13, 2006 Tis what i have the now is the wonder wheels stuff and it dont shift it, used it before on other alloys and its done the job fine, the stuff thats on my alloys the now is real caked on, but i guess once its done once i.e cleaned probally i can go back to using the wonder wheels Martin
phil Posted July 13, 2006 Posted July 13, 2006 What I did Poorboys Wheel Cleaner Good Wash with Car Shampoo then use an old Clay bar I then used Poorboys Wheel Sealant I rarely now have to do more than a rinse over with a micro fibre mitt and normal car shampoo HTH
z1000 Posted July 13, 2006 Posted July 13, 2006 Try mr muscle oven cleaner as that takes anything off.
AlanG Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 Not sure but is the wonder wheels stuff not made by Comma?
STi_Bandit Posted July 14, 2006 Author Posted July 14, 2006 Was on the polish bliss web site, sounds like the poorboys wheel clearner is for me, an aggresive cleaner, do not use regular, sounds like the stuff for me, Will try and pic some up at F&M Martin
scoobyvalet Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 i use a couple of diff products for wheels when they have cack caked on....autobrite do a pretty good alloy wheel cleaner and also nielson....both acid based so not to be left on for long...neilsen stuff is good and thick and seems to shift most after a scrub with a stiff brush.....if you have no joy with the poorboys i can send you a little sample to try bud....
STi_Bandit Posted July 14, 2006 Author Posted July 14, 2006 Cheers for the offer mate, will certainly give you a shout if the poorboys route dont work. On the topic of poorboys is there anywhere in EDINBURGH that stocks poorboys products MARTIN
gus the bus Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 Martin, If you want some Nielsen stuff I have an agent over the road from me and can get it today (assuming they aint shut for the Glasgow Fair weekend[]) Let me know and I can check it out! Gus
st3ph3n Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 My old company used to use Nielsen stuff at the jet wash they had out the back. The window cleaner stuff that comes in a spray can is pretty damn good.
gus the bus Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 ........and their liquid gold polish is pdg too! been using it for years on various cars with great results[]
