zeolite Posted July 10, 2006 Posted July 10, 2006 Seems like there were quite a few SIDC folk at the rally last weekend. So how about we get a group together to form a marshals group? I have a pal who is stage commander at many of the big rallies and if we get enough folk we could operate our own sections. This may be the opportunity to set up our own banners on the stages. I know that the Aberdeen RSOC did this for many years on the Granite city rally and used to have a ball. So who is interested?
Vicky Posted July 11, 2006 Posted July 11, 2006 I think its a great idea, and i would love to help out....thats if i wasn't competing of course. If not i'd just have to try put a smile on your face as we went past instead. Vix
STi_Bandit Posted July 11, 2006 Posted July 11, 2006 I would be up for doing some Marshalling :-) Martin

dougster Posted July 12, 2006 Posted July 12, 2006 Speyside Stages Volunteers in Motorsport Information available on above links. Remember guys this isn't glamorous but gets you right into the spirit of things and has way more benefits with regards to event participation, fun, meeting people with similar interests and close action!!!
zeolite Posted July 12, 2006 Author Posted July 12, 2006 More info here http://www.scottishrallychampionship.co.uk/ and here http://www.btinternet.com/~hbcc/event.htm
derek_robertson Posted July 13, 2006 Posted July 13, 2006 Does one need to grow a beard for this guys????[][][] Amazing response already, won't manage the Speyside but I'm available to marshall on the McRae Stages or Park Systems Rally. Del
dougster Posted July 13, 2006 Posted July 13, 2006 Any hair acceptable Del........................... Zeolite will lend you some of his!!!!
nicholas_frame Posted July 13, 2006 Posted July 13, 2006 I'm up for this too - did the scottish at ingliston and had a right laugh. My neighbour was gutted i didn't take him and wants to know the next time i'm doing it, so that makes two of us!
the squiggle Posted July 13, 2006 Posted July 13, 2006 Any hair acceptable Del........................... Zeolite will lend you some of his!!!! I initially thought you Googled for an image of a "strange ginger curly haired chap" but by christ that is him!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sorry i am more spectator than marshall material. It would do my nut in being stuck at one stage, the buzz for me is catching the front runners come through
dougster Posted July 13, 2006 Posted July 13, 2006 Grant, I know what you are saying but I feel the benefits far outweigh the negatives of hanging about. The JCMR was £40 camping and £5 to get into Langton and Swinton. Not if you have a nice big 4x4 with a marshall sticker on it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
the squiggle Posted July 13, 2006 Posted July 13, 2006 Grant, I know what you are saying but I feel the benefits far outweigh the negatives of hanging about. The JCMR was £40 camping and £5 to get into Langton and Swinton. Not if you have a nice big 4x4 with a marshall sticker on it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This year the supporters pack included a DVD of on board footage from last year, well worth the £25 IMHO. Imy and myself left the famous Swinton and Langton this year and headed for parts we had never visited before. We also found a lovely hotel in Swinton for some top grub and were able to decide what time we left for home, feeling no pressure what so ever to stay Suppose the attraction of being able to stand in all the dangerous places appeals to me but chasing the rally is what i have always enjoyed most. Will defo keep an eye out for you when doing the spectating bit.
dougster Posted July 13, 2006 Posted July 13, 2006 Again that sounds fantastic Grant. I am not trying to push the point as there are benefits in both. The organisers are desparate for marshalls and radio ops but people don't have to commit to the full event. What I would recommend is a scanner as even our radio car didn't have the management frequency which kept myself and spectators at my sections informed. PM me for details.
Guest AlanK Posted July 26, 2006 Posted July 26, 2006 Just to join this thread for future rallys that I may make - as I said elsewhere not 100% sure about Speyside but any other that I am able to get to would be up for this..
