thewelsho Posted July 8, 2006 Posted July 8, 2006 Hi Folks. A couple of questions regrding the sbuject of springs. Fraz A is selling a set of Eibachs for an 03- 05 Blobeye in the "For Sale and Wanted" section. Q1. Will they do a MY06 WRX? Q2. How will this affect my warrany? Thanks. [] John
st3ph3n Posted July 8, 2006 Posted July 8, 2006 1 - Maybe. The 05 and 06 WRX use inverted struts like the STI does which was different from the Bugeye and the 03/04 blobeyes.. 2 - Maybe. I had my rear shocks replaced last week by Halleys even though I'm running Tein springs. I was told that as it was a known issue they'd be ok with it, but if the springs were found to be causing the problem then there'd be no joy. For complete warranty friendliness get the Prodrive springs fitted by a dealer.
thewelsho Posted July 8, 2006 Author Posted July 8, 2006 Cheers Stephen, might have to. Trouble is though, according to the Subaru Website the Prodrive springs only reduce the ride height by 25mm which isn't much considering I have a gap at the front arch big enough to get yer heid in tae. Also, going through dealers is going to add an lump of dosh on top of the cost! John

oobster Posted July 8, 2006 Posted July 8, 2006 Your new wheels are 18's aren't they John? If so, i've got 18's on a blobeye with Prodrive springs and the gap has reduced nicely since getting the springs fitted. Think S&S charged about £380 for the springs, including fitting. Drops the front more than the back though, but I like the slight nose-down attitude it has now.
thewelsho Posted July 8, 2006 Author Posted July 8, 2006 Oobster, yes the wheels are 18's and I'd prefer the nose down look also. So I'm looking at £380! Pffff!
gus the bus Posted July 9, 2006 Posted July 9, 2006 .......or £320 approx for Teins -35mm front and -25mm rear including a geometry re-set to your desired setting. Thats what I paid @ Hypertech 01324 812 212 and Progrip (geometry work) who are in same industrial estate as Hypertech. Dunc or Alex @ Hypertech will sort the whole job for you. Top job![Y] Gus
st3ph3n Posted July 9, 2006 Posted July 9, 2006 Apparently Duncan now has the alignment gear in house as well now. Not had anything done in a while so not been up.
thewelsho Posted July 9, 2006 Author Posted July 9, 2006 Cheers Gus. Ok now to show my ignorance. What is a geometry set up and how can I get that to my desired settings if I have no clue what it is? Also, is this essential or desirable? Also Gus, any idea if the Teins would affect my warranty? Soooo many questions! Cheers guys! J

st3ph3n Posted July 9, 2006 Posted July 9, 2006 By right they can refuse the warranty on the suspension related pieces should you get Teins. But as I said earlier, I got rear shocks replaced last week on a euro import despite it running Teins. Geometery setup is the caster, camber, alignment etc. etc. etc. of all the wheels. Just ask for the prodrive setup and you're laughing. Get alloy droplinks done as well if you're getting suspension work. They're cheap and you can get it all done at the same time. Well worth it.

Soooo many questions! Cheers guys! J John, Geometry set up is basically wheel alignment, caster, and camber setting. I have mine set to "Prodrive" setting which basically gives negative camber (top of wheel sits further into the arch than the bottom for want of a better description) gives better cornering as when you turn in the car rolls onto the tyre surface. This setting does however give uneven tyre wear with the inside of the tyre tread wearing slightly quicker but is great if your a fast twisty Rd driver[] FYI -The standard Subaru setting has positive camber which gives wear on the outside of tyre surface. A more appropriate setting may be "Fast Rd" but the guy doing it can advise to your style of driving. "Is it essential or desirable" If your getting suspension work done the geometry will be affected so I'd say "essential" IMHO. Regarding Teins and warranty it largely depends on which dealership you deal with. I had a warranty claim recently and no questions were asked.[] Gus
gus the bus Posted July 9, 2006 Posted July 9, 2006 Beat me to it Stephen. but the info is much the same[]
thewelsho Posted July 9, 2006 Author Posted July 9, 2006 Thanks Gentlemen. I think I am going to attempt the Tein route seeing that its a bit cheaper. I have e-mailed my dealer but as yet no reply, I may just call in and ask about the warranty to be sure and ask about a Prodrive spring deal. Trouble is though, I'm not so sure they are fully clued-up on all of that! Thanks again, great help! John
