za - sti Posted July 5, 2006 Posted July 5, 2006 can anyone confirm if they have successfully fitted a top mount intercooler from a Sti 7 or 8 to a classic is there any difference between the 7 & 8 type intercoolers? cheers za
colin_ross Posted July 5, 2006 Posted July 5, 2006 Haven't done it myself but have read into it quite a bit as I was going to do it on my car. The 7 and 8 i/c's are the same but whatever you get make sure it come with the support brackets as you won't be able to re-use both of the originals. The new intercoolers can only be fitted to the later classic models too, if you have a slanty one just now then there is just no way to do it.
Digital Posted July 5, 2006 Posted July 5, 2006 If i recall, there was a thread on scoobynet with pictures of a guy who managed it alongside a turbo upgrade. Best try searching there first. Here's a starter . . . http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/showthread.php?...ic+classic+sti8
sheep Posted July 5, 2006 Posted July 5, 2006 Do a search on here under intercoolers here one with some information http://forums.sidc.co.uk/forums/694141/ShowPost.aspx
drb5 Posted July 5, 2006 Posted July 5, 2006 IMHO you'd benefit a whole lot more from an FMIC for what your using the car for Alex. As well as there not being much difference in price between an STi top mount and say a Hybrid FMIC.
za - sti Posted July 5, 2006 Author Posted July 5, 2006 Dave, noted but can get a Sti 7 one for not much whereas I see I can get a FMIC from flat4 for £350 cheers za
robinh20mrv Posted July 10, 2006 Posted July 10, 2006 hi, get a hyperflow top mount, i had one on my sti 8 ra, superb! 360bhp, mind you it was in no way std!! cheers robin.
burns Posted July 10, 2006 Posted July 10, 2006 Hi I've got a brand new Helix topmount intercooler unused which I'm selling at the moment,Andy Forest suggested it as I didn't want to use a FMIC,it is similar to a STI one but deeper,You would need to adjust your intercooler brackets and shorten the neck of your clutch resevoir to make it fit a later classic,PM me if you're interested.
