thinking about a new t.v what kind should i get lcd or plasma

Recommended Posts

I have a HD Hitachi plasma and think the picture quality is
far better than the LCD's in the same price range, only down side with plasma
telly is the life expectancy on them is around 4-5 year so extended guarantee
is a must. I was looking at smaller LCD tellies for my Xbox 360 in Curry’s at
the weekend and must say the higher priced LCD’s look spot on.  I think it’s more of the case how much are you
willing to pay!!! As both are very good.

What hifi magazine is also a good place to get information they regularly test different systems, i got a 40 inch sony bravia hd lcd and it is excellent. At the time i got it they were doing a 200 pound cash back and a three year extended warranty.

If you are willing to spend some cash, I would now be looking at the Pioneer with the separate box that controls all the inputs - I've seen it for around £2750 in Curry's, and it is beautiful. Alternatively if your budget is more modest, I recently got a 3 new LG LCD's in the house, and my pride and joy is a 32" LG that sits in my playroom and has a Tuner/Sky input, PS2 with soundbox, video, surround sound DVD and computer inputs. It's HD ready, the picture is excellent and all for a very modest £850

Incidentally, I heard that Samsung and LG make all the LCD screens for the industry, the rest just put their own electronics in them. Don't know if that's true or not

Depends on what you watch. LCD is best for day-to-day TV (clear, sharp pics). Plasma better for closing the curtains and watching the blockbusters (better blacks) and sports.

Also read somewhere that both have about the same life span, but LCD's don't suffer burn-in

T3 mag awarded the JVC LT-32DX7 best LCD TV £1400, and Panasonic TH-42PX60 best Plasma £2000.

Really depends on what your looking for but 42inch plasma here tells you my preferance, the Pioneer is the class leader and with good reason. One point though HD plasma's are great ( especially when watching HD sources) but for SD they may disapoint, just thought I would mention it

Best thing I can say is do some research at places like avforums as mentioned, and try and buy from John Lewis for there 5 year warranty........or do what I did and build up a good relationship with a hifi dealer and get a great deal.
