paulc555 Posted June 22, 2006 Posted June 22, 2006 Hi all Its funny how you forget things isnt it? Woke up this morning and my 01WRX was dead to the world....thought it was the battery and tried to jump start it....after 5mins gave it a crank and I had enought power to turn the radio and the lights etc on but the car just wouldnt kick in.....If there is enough charge for the lights etc should the car not fire up..... and the other thing that is really confusing me is........I cant remember if the digital speedo section of the dash stays illiminated with the keys out of the ignition....because mine does....this might be the source of the battery drain.....any ideas?????? the car is stranded in my drive so any assistance would be appreciated.... thanks Paul
st3ph3n Posted June 22, 2006 Posted June 22, 2006 Paul, the odometer is always on when the keys out. The thermometer isn't though. From memory.
paulc555 Posted June 22, 2006 Author Posted June 22, 2006 no more takers as to the possible problem... cheers Paul
scoobyvalet Posted June 22, 2006 Posted June 22, 2006 jump starting is not good unless you have surge protectors.....if this is only way, leave leads on for about ten mins before attempting to start..some leads are just not big enough to start modern cars, other options are get a battery or phone breakdown club if in one and they will use a jump pack and get you going.
david_taylor Posted June 22, 2006 Posted June 22, 2006 Paul Its unusual if you cant get it started from a set of leads. Can you hear the starter motor or solonoid turning? Have you had any indication that the battery has been playing up prior? I had a similar problem years ago on my RS Turbo and turned out to be a earth cable that had broke. That was after a new battery, and starter motor! Hope you have or get it sorted soon. Dave
bigdavie Posted June 22, 2006 Posted June 22, 2006 put a multimeter across the poles to see how much voltage you have and check all the connections hth
paul_honthy Posted June 24, 2006 Posted June 24, 2006 If your jump starting your scoob I would advise you put on lights, radio & blowers before turning the key to start. This reduces the the risk of spiking your ECU.
