D4WGY Posted June 12, 2006 Posted June 12, 2006 OK folks, am asking for some advice here please. Have got a week off between jobs coming up and am taking myself up north for a wee breather for a few days (staying in Inverness). Am staying with a friend up there but while they're at work I fully intend on having some fun with my car. Only had it a year and not taken it on a proper drive yet [:$] Surely there has to be some awesome roads up that way that are dying to be driven! Anybody got any suggestions? [] Many thanks Shep
sandyRS16i Posted June 12, 2006 Posted June 12, 2006 There are lots of good roads, best heading up towards ullapool A835, then head up the A837 to A839 towards Lairg before joining the A9 to head back to Inverness, some nice routes up that way. If not even heading along the east towards lossie etc is good then just head down A or B roads to Granton etc. even going across west to Fort Willian or Kyle then heading north before coming back. The Black Isle is also good, you can head along to Cromarty along the South coast then back along the North, best done at night tho. Just remember to fill up with Optimax before you leave Inverness as there are very few Shell stations about, Shell is next to Raigmore hospital in Inverness. I normally just drive aimlessly all over the place, its the best way to find good roads TBH. There are loads of roads about, traffic volume is usually quite low, but just avoid the main towns like Inverness or Dingwall for driving about as the local plod have a direcive to target all subaru exhausts, whether aftermarket or Prodrive and will issue a £30 fine.......loads of threads about it on here and Scoobynet.
D4WGY Posted June 12, 2006 Author Posted June 12, 2006 That's awesome mate! [] Thanks for the advice and the warning about the Inverness Plod, will have to keep an eye out. Will let you know which roads I take [] Shep
butcherboy Posted June 13, 2006 Posted June 13, 2006 you could take the A82 down Loch Ness (watch out for the tourists and caravans ) then theA887 at Invermoriston then the A87 to Skye (no tolls on the bridge now)
gus the bus Posted June 13, 2006 Posted June 13, 2006 Loch ness to Kyle of Lochalsh upto Lochcarron, Inverewe, Gairloch, round the coast to Ullapool and north then East back towards Lairg, Dingwall and back to Shnecky. Did it last year[Y] superb. Gus
D4WGY Posted June 13, 2006 Author Posted June 13, 2006 ARGH! So many choices! Am gonna have to think about this one. Can't wait! [] Shep
D4WGY Posted June 13, 2006 Author Posted June 13, 2006 OK, am thinking..... A82 down the west coast of Loch Ness then A87 across to Kyle of Lochalsh, then over to Sky and grab a bite to eat, then come back over and up A890 to the A832 and on to the A835 to Dingwall & back to Inverness! [H] Shep
the squiggle Posted June 14, 2006 Posted June 14, 2006 Inverness then south A9 then head for Grantown on Spey then south over the Lechtvia Tomintoul then head to Blairgowrie Fill up with Optimax in Blairgowrie and turn round and do the exact same road in the other direction Best days driving guaranteed
