iain_spink Posted June 1, 2006 Posted June 1, 2006 First, some pr1ck crashes his car at about70mph into my house in Arbroath (don't live there anymore but let it out) and causes £11000 worth of damage. Yes, you guessed it, he wasn't insured (I am though thankfully). 4rsehole knocked down the entire bay window section of the house which is an old red sandstone lodge. Impossible to get an exact match on the stone so the house will never be the same again. Other damage includes windows, old ornate plaster cornices, original woodwork, carpets, leather suite, computer stuff, electrics etc. A monumental ammount of hassle for me and for the tennants who are living there. Have to say that so far the insurance people have been great though. The little helmet gets away with a few points and a paltry fine and I get left with a damaged, repaired house and out of pocket through excesses on my insurance. Second, After running like a swiss watch since I got it, my 22B's big ends very suddenly decided to make their presence noticed and started rattling rather loudly. Pretty p'd off about it as the engine had been rebuilt around 15000 miles ago so thought I had peace of mind in that area at least, not so it seems! Oh well lets think positively, its a good excuse to beef up the engine internals in order to add some goodies to up the power a bit. AWD are doing most of the work, the engine's going down to API engineering in Warwickshire and the finishing touch will be a visit to Andy F for mapping. Could have done without that just now as I still havent sold my TVR (haven't tried yet). Third, Just to add to my luck, the aforementioned TVR was down at Dreadnought TVR in Callender for a routine service and a new clutch, and on the way home up the A9 last night the gearbox decided to disintegrate! The car is now back down there and will be there for at least 4 weeks as thet are up to their eyeballs in work. Despite TVR's dodgy reputation for reliability it has been a fantastically reliable car to me, never once having let me down in 9years of ownership so the timing is not great to put it mildly! To say I am utterly hacked off with cars at the moment would be an understatement. At least I'll have a 400+BHP 22B to look forward to I suppose! Iain
st3ph3n Posted June 1, 2006 Posted June 1, 2006 What a right kick in the baws Iain. Still you're taking the right attitude about the whole thing.
derek_robertson Posted June 1, 2006 Posted June 1, 2006 Sad news on all fronts Ian, put a couple of quid on the lottery....your luck's bound to change[] Del
col666 Posted June 1, 2006 Posted June 1, 2006 What a bummer[] Will get to see your 22b sometime! Good luck with the house...scoob...tvr!

lescazscoob Posted June 1, 2006 Posted June 1, 2006 can you not claim from him ie, take him to court??? i know that if you are hit by an uninsured driver there is fund that you can claim compensation from but not sure how it works? poor you sounds like your not having a good time of it? i luv ur 22b was drooling at the meet and told hubby about it all night he was so jealous, thats one of the reason we bought wrx!!
fai17 Posted June 1, 2006 Posted June 1, 2006 Sad news indeed..... Firstly..i think you can claim the wee cant in the small claims court.... Secondly..i would love to see your 22B but after your power hike i defo love to see it more[]but nae luck all the same. Thirdly..cars are a nightmare when they let you down and your attitude to bad luck is spot on..looking on bight side always[Y]
iain_spink Posted June 1, 2006 Author Posted June 1, 2006 Thanks for your commiserations and comments folks. Unfortunately not worth pursuing the little maggot through the courts as it will likely cost me far more in solicitor fees etc than I would get from him. It's hard to bear but there's not a lot I can do really. My insurance company will obviously be pursuing him through the courts though to try to recoup some of their money. Perhaps I should "send the boys round" to see him one night! Its a good job I've got an understanding girlfriend who likes cars too, as all this hassle/expense means that hols are unlikely again this year.
frank c Posted June 1, 2006 Posted June 1, 2006 I thought i was having a bad week Iain....Feck Me......Sorry to hear m8.. Good to hear the 22B is in for a bit pampering though.....[] Frank.
paddy247 Posted June 1, 2006 Posted June 1, 2006 Its a luvly car Iain and it will be better than ever when repaired. Chat to ya next time you are in AWD, I can be seen sweeping the floor, making the T and bolting Imprezas together[] Paddy.

Used to be a keen racer a few years ago. Kin hell, with the frame at "2.41 pounds" i take it you have a brick in your back pack so when you stop you can keep it from blowing away [] not too keen on going on the road meself but give me a muddy track and just point me down hill (from time to time i shall cycle up one too []) oh and paddy get yer sail off the brush and back to bolting things back together []
dipsy Posted June 2, 2006 Posted June 2, 2006 Sorry to hear your problems hope you get every thing sorted .Your 22b is in a very good place being sorted
scientific steve Posted June 4, 2006 Posted June 4, 2006 Quote [] You cant rush quality[] All sytems go canny wait min back in the land of the real people but had toooo many of the black G's in Cork today, it does taste different over there by the way
twentytwobee Posted June 6, 2006 Posted June 6, 2006 Interested to know what the root cause of the engine failure was as I was advised off the oil level in 22b's being critical and always being kept at Max and also intercooler condition being very important. My 22B is under cover at the moment as I am considering selling it if a suitable offer comes along, I popped it on the 22B site. The silver lining could be that your 22B was not parked out the front and he hit that instead of the house!
