za - sti Posted May 15, 2006 Posted May 15, 2006 just fitted a 2.5 sti short block to my STi 5. what a difference. Its on a safe running in map so not much ignition advance and 0.6bar boost RR figures : 180bhp and 300lbft torque!!! drives very well, throttle responce much better, any sacrifice on revs is definitely out-weighed looking forward to 1000miles and a re-map cheers za
darryll Posted May 15, 2006 Posted May 15, 2006 a 180 BHP that wont pull a soldier off yer ma yer easy pleased.
JohnSt Posted May 15, 2006 Posted May 15, 2006 a 180 BHP that wont pull a soldier off yer ma yer easy pleased. [:^)] Don't think he gets it really Alex, sounds good, who fitted it ? ---john---
ozzy Posted May 15, 2006 Posted May 15, 2006 It's only running 0.6bar and a safe map while it's run in hence why it's only producing 180bhp. Torque is still impressive, hence why it drives better. [:^)]
darryll Posted May 15, 2006 Posted May 15, 2006 fair enough would like to c what it does when its run in, 350 bhp and 300 lbft torque would be good numbers.
fai17 Posted May 15, 2006 Posted May 15, 2006 That's brill....can't to see the figures when it's fully ran in.[]
za - sti Posted May 15, 2006 Author Posted May 15, 2006 John, TEG did the work and was mapped by Steve Simpson Ozzy, thanks for explaining Darryll, this is a competition car so torque more important as a general rule. What i am also looking for is quick spool. The VF35 that I am using is not good for high end power however the torque band will probably end at 5500rpm. I should have said those RR results were at 3000rpm The power is going to be restricted by the turbo, 2.5 inch exhaust, top mount, 440 injectors. I am looking for about 330bhp and 350lbft torque but will need to see. cheers for the interest za
drb5 Posted May 15, 2006 Posted May 15, 2006 Nice innit? [] Try it 1.5 bar...........that's even nicer. lol
drb5 Posted May 15, 2006 Posted May 15, 2006 a 180 BHP that wont pull a soldier off yer ma yer easy pleased. I apologise for stating the obvious, but 300lbs ft at 0.6bar of boost and not fully mapped is awesome matey!!
john mac Posted May 15, 2006 Posted May 15, 2006 Sounds like a nice package being put together, and remember dudes Bhp isn't everything, it's ok for bragging down the pub,but its Torque that wins races[]
jcscoob Posted May 16, 2006 Posted May 16, 2006 a 180 BHP that wont pull a soldier off yer ma yer easy pleased. [:S][:$][:|] Ps, very impresive[y] roll on the 1000mile []
ANDYJDMSTI Posted May 16, 2006 Posted May 16, 2006 Bhp isn't everything, it's ok for bragging down the pub,but its Torque that wins races[] If only more people realised this instead of getting tunnel vision and chasing big bhp!!! Interestingly enough the new GT3 has 409bhp / 298 lbft (or so EVO mag says) , does not add up to me somehow [*-)]
drb5 Posted May 16, 2006 Posted May 16, 2006 No turbo attatched, AFAIK Andy, so it's all about revs....like the M3 etc. Besides how light it is, i dare say it's still good fun. []
fai17 Posted May 16, 2006 Posted May 16, 2006 but its Torque that wins races[] Does torque not get you off the line and out of corners quickly. After a certain point bhp does take over and high speed is acheived

[] Very true dave, forgot to put that in about the lack of turbo. Rev limit now 8400, weighs in at 1395 and has 298 bhp/ton. Looks absolutely stunning!!!! the new BMW Z4 M Coupe is also a nice piece of kit too. Pete, Torque is what you feel when you get shoved in the back of your seat, i would rather have a car with oodles of torque rather than massive bhp and low torque. I prefer the short squirts of power rather than sitting trying to break the land speed record on the motorways. At the end of the day how often do you drive at top end speeds on our roads, whereas how often do you get the chance to use the grunt on backroads in shorts blasts???? All down to driver/ pub preference i suppose []
chris_c201 Posted May 16, 2006 Posted May 16, 2006 Worth having a read of this - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Torque and this - http://www.straightdope.com/mailbag/mhorsepower.html Obviously torque and hp are directly related altho it is to do with what torque is made at what RPM's that defines your peak BHP...

Try and work out, how they'd still beat the old Group-B cars hands down too! []
terzo neil Posted May 18, 2006 Posted May 18, 2006 has it been fully mapped yet and is it ready for saturday sprint at kames interested in how it goes as your name is down on the running list ?
herbie Posted May 18, 2006 Posted May 18, 2006 whats the best way to run in a new engine??? take it easy or drive it hard right away? have a look at this..... http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm
sma01 Posted May 18, 2006 Posted May 18, 2006 just online now, nice lookin car mate, i turned up with my mate in his P1 just as steve was doing your map, look forward to seeing the finished results.... scott
