HOW MUCH IS A PISTON????

Recommended Posts

Going back to my outrageous luck since buying my Scooby, Arnold Clark are covering most, if not all of the cost of repair to my baby. Turns out Cylinder No 1 has lost all compression due to a melted piston! They have had a specialist look at it, and they say it happened due to oil starvation! Anyhow, they are rebuilding the damaged parts, and have ordered among other things a new piston from Subaru. I am just curious as to how much this kind of work will cost, any one have a rough idea of how much new part would be??

Mate.  I had the same worry that turned out to be nothing as bad last week, but i was quoted prices.  If you needed a new engine your looking at 3 grand.  For a strip, new piston and rebuild I was quoted 1.3k!!  Not cheap

Hope you get it sorted soon mate!

Can we PLEASE keep comments factual and not make comments which may be liableous.

Sorry if you felt this could be liableous.  However it is my opinion and I would take full responsability of any consequences. RELAX!

It's not 'your opinion' it's hearsay backed up by a comment from a 'friend' which I have removed.

It's the club that gets taken to court for libel if it ever came to that!!!!

As I said, apologies.  Was not aware such a comment, or opinion would have such a impact!!!!!

That was Subaru that told me that over the phone after a mechanic incorrectly diagnosed it from sound!  Obviously a dealer charges about 85 notes a hour at least!

Tuned out to be a spark plug, so did not have to find out the true cost!

Phew!!!!!!

I read them all, but no one needs a kick anywhere...........

I have posted a query in the Reporting Section for the other moderators to respond to.

I'll get back to you via PM with an answer.

[:^)]Im sure I saw someone ask about the price of a piston at the start of this post[8-)]

Stripe, IIRC a piston is about £70 each. That was about 12 months ago though. Not sure if prices have gone up or down. Its a rough idea though.

Hope this helps.

Also, make sure that the garage gets to the bottom of the problem and can satisfy themselves in thinking that oil starvation caused a piston to melt. Check out possibility's such as a faulty MAF and get rid of any nasty VTA Dump valves too[;)]
