Anyone going to the Banzai day at Crail (Sun 23rd)?

I'll be heading up to see how I get on with the new car.

I'm a bit dubious about the new trackbite stuff they are putting down for the first 60ft though. A mate of mine used to have an RB5 that he had down to 12.6 with a few basc mods and a nitrous kit, he now has a version 5 Type R and after a few goes at Crail so far in it informs me that it's actually much harder to launch right then the RB5 and other scoobies he has driven. The problem seems to be that it just grips and bogs down if you just drop the clutch right out, even at a fairly high launch rpm. Obviously the TrackBite will make enhance this issue even further. I tried a few half launches last night and it seemed that riding the clutch out a bit as you take off was the best solution to it not biting and bogging the car down, obviously still doing it as quickly as possible so as not to fry the clutch.

Playsatan - I saw you mention before that you took your v4 type r to Crail and managed a 12.9 on "plastic" jap tyres lol, just wondering how you went about launching it, or did you just pop the clutch and the plastic jap tyres spun a bit thus stopping the car from bogging down?

Any hints appreciated as I'm sure the queues will stop me getting many runs in to practice with it being a mag day. I was having a chuckle about the trackbite though lol, 3 years of having a turbo'd fwd culminating in a 12.8 @ 114 while scrabbling and not being able to go full throttle till a fair bit after the 60ft, then I get a 4wd and now they decide to put trackbite down lol.

Would be cool to see if Andy can go even quicker with the new sticky surface.

Not too sure what to recommend to you Ross.

I found that unless I did a 5k launch it bogged down very badly but I later found out that my car was fitted it a 4.7 kg flywheel which goes some way to explaining it.  It'd be murder on the clutch and box with a grippy surface though.

The dccd does make a big differnce. I found that setting it 3/4 forward helped tame the wheel spin and if you get a chance in between changes you can roll it off when in 3rd or higher. BTW, be prepared to use all 5 gears in a type r by the end of the strip.

What time you heading up, maybe see you there?

9:30 for the gates, 10 for the strip opening I think.

I'll probably be there for 9 lol, always there dead early to try and get a few runs in before the queues build up, I get up between 2 and 4:30 for work anyway so getting up at 7 is a long lie lol.

Grippy surface is being used for the first time this Sunday, good to see the weather looking good also.

Playsatan2 - Yeah maybe see you up there, I will keep an eye out, cheers for the heads up on the gears as well, I noted that last night while trying a few practice runs that I;d be in 5th by the end.
