STi_Bandit Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 This Summer iam wanting to fully detail my engine bay, Cleaning the red top engine, straighten fins, remove oil overspills and general making the bay look prestine. Was wondering this link says hose down the engine bay and cover electrical points and sensors (has he seen an impreza engine bay) so there is no way ill be hosing it down just wondering if anyone had any tips or products they use to detail engine bays :-) Martin. http://www.autopia-carcare.com/inf-engine.html
Baz81 Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 Get a de greasing solvent spray that way excess will evaporate.. Possibly brake cleaner that comes in a spray can?
Rice Rocket Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 Get some carbon fibre parts in there! Use maguiars hot rims to clean the intercooler, but take it off first and CD2 out of Halfrauds is great for cleaning it all! Maguiars metal cleaner in the tub is also good for cleaning all the A/C pipes etc. Ricey
oobster Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 Martin, I've used the CD2 ricey mentioned, and it's very good. Just make sure you do wrap-up all the electrical connectors first - only takes ten minutes. Andy
st3ph3n Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 I've got some CD2 at home, but not had a chance to use it yet. I guess I'll need some plastic bags or something to wrap the electrical bits in. Anyone seen a good guide as to all the bits to wrap?
chris_c201 Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 Wouldn't mind knowing exactly what to cover as well...... keen to do this at some point.....
Rice Rocket Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 All I did was cover the battery, Induction kit, the alarm and kept away from any leccy points. Always worked for me. RR
oobster Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 I didnt really follow the instructions - i sprayed the cleaning can into a wee tub and used an auld toothbrush to clean wee bits at a time - this way it was easy to keep away from the electrical components. So afraid i dont really know what parts to avoid if your going to do the taping-up thing.
chrissy Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 ma dad (karps) cleans his quite often, not sure what he does but the engine usually always looks gleaming after it, ill find out what he uses later when he comes in from work

I like the dampers too good for shows and just generally handy, though may go for scott Lowe ones slighty cheaper Martin
