PAULSMC Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 Hi all, Ive just bought a 2002 Impreza WRX (standard) Im currently insured with Direct Line as thats who my last car was with(until July anyway). Problem is they want a Tracker fitted is it worth it? Or do I just change insurance compaines? If I get a Tracker whos best to go to (Anywhere in Central Scotland) how much will it cost me and how much per year?(Its the subscription that pisses me off as its really just adding £100 to your insurance) Cheers for any info.
Gumball Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 Welcome mate, try elephant. they dont require a tracker to insure you. It would give you piece of mind, but it also comes in the form of- They cant steal your scoob without the key
scoobykev Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 Hello i got tracker fitted to mine when i bought it, cost £300 to fit then another £300 to cover lifetime subscription, which is obviously only worth it if you intend to keep the car more than 3 years.
colin_ross Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 And how much do you use the car? If it's a daily driver you should be fine but my weekend warrior has to have a new battery every spring due to the tracker. With it lying unused for a few weeks the tracker completely drains and ruins the battery. It's a complete baw ache I can tell you.
fraser_allan Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 The reason Directline want you to fit a tracker is that they know own Tracker the company, nice little erner my son![]
st3ph3n Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 I thought you meant whether to take the car out on track or not. To which the answer was YES.
dipsy Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 I had to get a tracker for the jdm sti being insured with privelege ie direct lines sister company .It was a pain had to phone tracker to ask what tracker i had to get fitted ended up getting fitted a tracker monitor and it took them ages to send paper work out to start paying subscription i did the one off payment .The tracker in mine was fitted by the bloke who fits the alarms at Dicksons of Dunblane
scoobykev Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 Who done that for you Kev? was done through Town and County in perth, they brought somebody in to do it before i picked car up, afraid i don't know the name.
dave_morgan Posted March 14, 2006 Posted March 14, 2006 I've got RAC Trackstar on the P1, and I've not had any trouble with flat batteries etc. .....and the car often sits for a month or more unused. It's not so much peace of mind (as they'll still steal it ever if it has tracker as it isn't advertised on the car), but it is nice to know that the little scroats might get caught if they do steal it. Also gives you more options when renewing insurance. I pay a tenner a month for my subscription. HTH Dave
PAULSMC Posted March 15, 2006 Author Posted March 15, 2006 Cheers Dave, A-Plan have quoted me about the same as Direct Line and without the need for a Tracker, tried Gary Moulsen at Keith Michaels that a lot of guys use but still waiting on his return phonecall! From what Ive read returning calls is not his strong point! Must be nice to turn down buisness in the £650 region.
vicki Posted March 15, 2006 Posted March 15, 2006 Hello and Welcome Paul [] I am insured with Norwich Union and they didn't require a tracker, but they are a good idea. I am waiting for a email back from Keith Michaels with a quote, have been for days!
PAULSMC Posted March 15, 2006 Author Posted March 15, 2006 Cheers Vicki, I phoned Keith Michaels and got through to Gary this time, was'nt worth the wait anyway as he couldn't beat A-Plan. P.S There is a guy in Shotts that did a bump on my last car did a crackin job and reasonably cheap, dont have his number but could give you directions or take you up.
