Why the locked thread??

Recommended Posts

Why have you guys locked the thread? People have changed their avatars. Why should it not be allowed to continue?

While I am on the subject who made you a member of the Internet police deeming Fatmanscoobys icon was unsuitable for my child to view? You should remove your head from your anal region and see the real world. FMS avatar was of a pair of womens breasts, nothing more. All women have breasts (some men too! face-icon-small-wink.gif) They are the most natural thing in the world. Have you never had children or been in a maternity ward? In there breasts are everywhere. When children are born they are first placed on their mothers busom and encouraged to feed from them.

To keep this real this all come about coz FMS icon was deemed "pornographic" by a handfull of wrinklies and locking the thread gives them the satisfaction that they have won causing a them and us situation.

WELL DONE guys!

I locked the thread because there was nothing else to be said on the subject.

I have no view on whether you think fatmanscooby's icon was unsuitable for your child to view.

However, I, along with the rest of the SIDC committee, have views on what is and is not acceptable for publication on an SIDC website. I am policing a website for which I have responsibility, not the entire internet.

I take no satisfaction in "winning" any particular situation. I (and the rest of the committee) just want to keep the SIDC forums filled with relevant and interesting discussions that support the community of SIDC members and Subaru Impreza owners and fans generally, regardless of age, sex, or sensibility.

If you want to discuss this matter further then please email me at cameron@sidc.co.uk.

Thanks to the 40 of you that voted anyway. It seems that the 11 and of course Pete Croney will have us using teddys, flowers etc to keep the kids happy.Perhaps they should change the club name to something more kiddy friendly and maybe they will even pay my membership money.Heres to democracy the CSIDC way

I did not send you a private message, as the debate was a public one.

I quite often have had to make decisions which are not what Pete Croney would do, but which are what the Chairman of the SIDC should do. With regards to the icons, there is simply no need for them to be what even one person may call offensive. It does always intrigue me as to why people pick the cartoon ones that they do chose and, of course, having your car as one was the intended use of the facility. The difference is this, if I want to watch a porn star kneed her ample breasts, I will find the site that shows it. I would not want to see it whilst surfing the SIDC site with my 13 year old daughter, or my 72 year old mother.

As a guardian of the SIDC's image to its members and the public at large, I am sure you can understand that it is sometimes necessary to make decisions that benefit very few, but are nonetheless the right decisions. Its easy to be seen as a prude in such matters, but it is far easier to police such an issue if we make a sweeping statement of saying icons which could possibly offend may not be used.

I personally have no problems at all with naked birds, provided they are fit, but there is a time and a place and this is not it.

Pete

Cameron(webmaster),

<< I locked the thread because there was nothing else to be said on the subject. >>

Obviously you haven't been looking, there are currently several separate posts in relation to the locked thread, and the original sparked the highest response to a single thread since I've been posting....

Cameron,

You have my full support in this matter. I too have to make difficult decisions about web content and email on a daily basis, and what support do I get for having this responsibilty? I get called IT Police, told I'm snooping on people by reading their mail and generally bad mouthed for doing my job. Nothing I can't handle, but it is very short sighted of people to start criticising you for doing your job.

SIDC are trying to avoid any hassle, complaints and even legal action by taking this action, why don't the rest of you just calm down and let them run this excellent site to the best of their ability?

I've just tripped and banged my head due to the toys & dummies that have been spat out over a bloody non pornographic icon.

Now considering I've used this forum a lot, along with some others, we've never breached anything that has been seen controversial, offensive. We have had active discussions, active disagreements but nothing threatening, nothing shown personal hatred, violence whatever so why start now.

Am I correct in saying that the aforementioned image showed a female with her hands completely covering her breasts........ Yes

Did she at any point remove the hands ........ No So is it pornographic ????

Do you stop your child from picking up the Sun/Star etc. newspaper and opening the page with the number 3 on it ?

Quite simply our own ADVISOR TO THE COMMITTEE even started the thread and was quite happy to go along with the flow until a few of the "old committee" appear on the scene and start ranting their chops off. Whats the point in having the forums where it invites people to have topics of conversation. There are a lot of numpties out there that use the internet that you & I may find offensive but the only way to remove that aspect of the culture would be to cease the facility, ie shut down a chatroom, forum to remove that threat.

It will always come down to PERSONAL interpretation of text. A phrase can be said meaning one thing but 5 people could read it thinking it means something completely different. I'm afraid thats todays world, our society is so widely spread that a can of worms have now been opened and now that this has been done, can you not spot all the heated postings & ranting that has commenced. Reminds me of something you'd find on the internet that is also related to the Subaru community !!!!! And this all over one person posting a picture that in my eyes was not offensive. I'm afraid I can see this forum now starting to go the same way as other forum sites now that dummies have been spat.....

Sorry but I can debate all I want, especially if others have the freedom to type away and reply. Yes we are aware there is a line not to cross and as far as I'm aware, me talking about something doesn't constitute me crossing that line. Its only an opinion, just like the rest of people who have taken the time to read & respond.
