cosmic Posted February 10, 2006 Posted February 10, 2006 was looking at a set of kw variant 3 coilovers or eibach coilovers anyone of yous useing coilovers just looking for some feedback on them or what ever your useing ie how hard are they n how to set them up thanks guys
wilky Posted February 10, 2006 Posted February 10, 2006 I have coilovers, Cuscos. They make your car sharp as a razor on tracks and smooth roads at speeds. 5 way adjustable so you can dial in more camber than you can shake a stick at, turn in is fantastic. On the down side, its a midnight ride to rock bottom row. The about town bumping is brutal and anything under 50mph is bumpy as hell, real hardcore, I like it, most hate it, especially if your better half has a large chest. There is no warning that the car is going to let go either, and when its gone, its gone, unless you have razor sharp reflexes like me(lol) Big Andy will vouch for me on that one. Its an aquired taste, best to try one first. Hope that helps. Callum W
drb5 Posted February 10, 2006 Posted February 10, 2006 Colin I was gonna be getting a set of second hand variant 3 KW's for the RA and found out that T-UK has them on his scoob, so went up and out for a quick spin. They were EXCELLENT coilovers. Not over stiff and very, very nice to drive on, but most importantly, they are worth the money. I once had Tein's on the RB5, but after a while, they were very annoying. Something which i reckon most of the jap makes can be. No offence Wilky, but i know how hard the Cusco's can be.[]
cosmic Posted February 10, 2006 Author Posted February 10, 2006 thanks wilky dont think you can ajust the camber on the kw s or the eibach but kw s have height / compression + ajustable rebound damping dont know if the compression ajustment would make them soft enough to an acceptable level oh by the way theres na danger eh ma wifes chest bouncing []
peter_reid Posted February 10, 2006 Posted February 10, 2006 I've got tanabe Sustec Pro's. Ace on some roads. Bumpy as hell in town. Easy to fit simple to adjust. Pete
wilky Posted February 10, 2006 Posted February 10, 2006 No problem dave, they are pretty brutal. Cosmic, alot of people find that a good set of uprated springs and decent droplinks/ antilift kit is all they really need. Its worth having a hurl in all options and making up your mind that way. Callum W
scoobyfuzzy Posted February 10, 2006 Posted February 10, 2006 theres a set of sustec on ebay, starting off quite cheap. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/TANABE-SUSTEC-COIL-O...1QQcmdZViewItem fuzzy
jcscoob Posted February 10, 2006 Posted February 10, 2006 Iv got coilovers on, and like willky says there is not a lot warning , [:|] But i have only had them on for a month, its like having to learn how to drive again ! Car sits great and ride is bearable . []
paddy247 Posted February 10, 2006 Posted February 10, 2006 Id put the uprated antiroll bars high on the list aswell, Whiteline do some good ones
dougster Posted February 10, 2006 Posted February 10, 2006 Colin is your car not sitting pretty low on the 19"s anyway? I thought you had the H&Rs and drop links like my old wagon?
cosmic Posted February 10, 2006 Author Posted February 10, 2006 doug a had h& r s on it when a put the 19s on a noticed wane a the front 1s was broken so a decided to put eibachs on but they hardly lowered it much so am going to get a set of coilovers that way i can get it to sit the way i want
sma01 Posted February 10, 2006 Posted February 10, 2006 got the teins on mine and they are superb, make a massive difference to the handling of the car scott
weeb Posted February 10, 2006 Posted February 10, 2006 I just got a set of teins of ebay!!! had a wee manouvre in the squirrels cars and its seems quite bumpy!! who cares!!!
the squiggle Posted February 10, 2006 Posted February 10, 2006 I have the HKS Hypermax coilovers on mine and to be honest they are harder than a nun's knickers. Thnk fook i have no teeth left and have fitted two cushions from Ikea as extra absorbtion Grant
jcscoob Posted February 10, 2006 Posted February 10, 2006 Does anyone with the coilovers suffer from mad understeer ???
peter_reid Posted February 10, 2006 Posted February 10, 2006 Does anyone with the coilovers suffer from mad understeer ??? Mine is ok! Pete
the squiggle Posted February 10, 2006 Posted February 10, 2006 Mines sometimes understeers but thats down to the fact the front wheels are no longer in contact with the road surface Did you get the geometry done after fitting them? Grant
JohnSt Posted February 11, 2006 Posted February 11, 2006 "coilovers" don't make a car understeer, the setup does. Variables are:- Sprint Rates, Front/Rear Rate Ratio, Bump and Rebound settings, Caster, Camber, Bump Steer, Corner Weights, Ride hieght, the Rake of the car, etc. All a coilover is is a strut which is adjustable. If you find yours to hard, buy some softer springs, knock the damping down a bit and in most cases, if the rest are setup right it will be no slower on a public road. If you only want them so the car 'sits right' then find the cheapest you can. All IMHO of course ---john---
the squiggle Posted February 11, 2006 Posted February 11, 2006 Unfortunatly HKS do not do softer springs and it is on the softest settings Just some coilovers are more suited to the track than the public road. Grant
drb5 Posted February 11, 2006 Posted February 11, 2006 Take some measurements of the springs Grant and get yourself a copy of Demon Twats motorsport catalogue. There you shall find springs of all sorts. []
cosmic Posted February 11, 2006 Author Posted February 11, 2006 thanks guys for your replys dont want them for track use dont take mine on really want them more for height ajustment got eibachs springs on it the nu but just disny sit right
JohnSt Posted February 11, 2006 Posted February 11, 2006 Grant your coilovers will just run standard 2.25 or 2.5" I.D. springs, you just have to put the right rates and legths on, not buy HKS items [:^)]
the squiggle Posted February 11, 2006 Posted February 11, 2006 What spring rates would you suggest as they are damn narrow and damn hard? Where would be a good place to start looking for replacement springs, i can find replacement springs that will fit the Hypermax 2 but not the original ones. Grant
