mrs. jc scoob Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 Can anybody help a couple of months ago i was driving in 2nd slowly and bang i thought somebody had went into the back of me cos there were shooting pains in my arms with what i thought had been caused by an impact but nobody had crashed into me so drove along the road and got out had a look everything seemed fine. Since then on 4 different occasions and road conditions including dry roads my car has skidded for no reason its like the brakes have locked up and the front of the car just slides this is very scary when you are due to have a baby any minute and you have your 3 year old son in the back. The car has 4 good tyres, new whiteline droplinks and anti lift kit so does anybody have any idea what could be causing this even when not breaking and even if I was breaking should ABS not kick in any suggestions apreciated as I am now beginning to fear my car is evil.
RA Dunk Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 although somebody in here might know it maybe be better off in the strictly technical area hope ya get it sorted anyway
dave_morgan Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 Very strange !! So what actually happens then ? The wheels just lock up and you skid to a halt? If it's actually skidding and you have ABS, then it's perhaps more likely to be transmission related than brake related. Gearbox, differential, wheel bearing, CV joint?? How often does it happen? Can you make it happen or is it just random? Is it only on tight corners or striaght lines? "Technical" is probably the best place for the question, but I'd get it in somewhere to check out pronto as it could be quite nasty if it happens at any kind of speed !! Dave
mrs. jc scoob Posted January 19, 2006 Author Posted January 19, 2006 I dont think it is the brakes,it happens at random and has happened 4 times at slow speeds thankfully it seems to be when turning right its like the steering just goes and the front of the car slides out,I have got it booked in next sat for 60k service so hopefully they will spot whatever it is then also getting new shockers etc this week and 4 wheel geo done so hopefully this will sort it out,its horrible its totally knocked my confidence
jamie_wood Posted January 19, 2006 Posted January 19, 2006 Sounds 100% like a C.V joint ,like Kartman said. Had the same problem on another car before. Get it into a garage now before it causes a death
col666 Posted January 20, 2006 Posted January 20, 2006 I am in no way an expert but could it be a diff problem? if your turning when it does it a diff may be locking up. On my last impreza I was doing something daft and damaged the rear diff, after that whenever i reversed in a straight line it was fine but whenever i tried to turn the wheels would lock solid! Col.
mrs. jc scoob Posted January 20, 2006 Author Posted January 20, 2006 Jon had car out tonight to investigate it for me,on the way home the brake warning light came on and stayed on also it was squeaking like mad from both back wheels, this is the first time this happened with the light. So maybe the back brakes are seized on I am not going to drive it now until it goes to garage next week, hopefully it is this and not something more sinister
