Would it really be necessary to move to an APS tmic ?

I`m sure the standard one is more than capable of handling circa 360bhp...

Also, i would opt for Ecutek over the Gems, having had a Gems unit before, there was nothing it had (except anti-lag) that would make me spend the extra again.

And i would use Andy.F for definate.

Hope that helps. face-icon-small-smile.gif

A lot of people wouldn't recommend Gems anyway, ask a few here about it and they will tell you why. Other good less expensive options open to you.

Also gordy if your selling one of the Intercoolers I would be interested in one, Also the standard STi one is good for 400Bhp. Ask Gumball face-icon-small-wink.gif

Well...being the only few on here with a GEMS on a NEWAGE,this is what i have to say.

I love my GEMS ECU because of a few things.

1. The processing on the ECU is quicker than the standard ECU which gives you faster spool up and loads of TORQUE but i haven't had it rolling road yet so i don't know the figures.

2. It's able to run spot on with the fueling so i don't need to uprate the injectors(i think)

3. It pops and bang and shoots flames like no other car on Scottish Scoobies that i know of.

4. Being able to run ANTILAG and LAUNCH CONTROL.

5. Having the advantage to take all the mods off to sell when you get a new car because you still have a STANDARd ECU to put back on.

6. Being able to run more boost than an ECUTEK map.

But there is couple of issue with the GEMS that you need to know before you get one like.

1. Trying to get a good mapper is quite hard to come by.

2. The antilag is still not active on my newage yet.

3. Cold start can be a problem but mines has been fixed by my mapper.

4. Hot start can be a problem too but which i don't have.

5. Some famous mappers are not as good as they claim or you've read off.

6. They are expensive but you can sell your GEMS ECU when you sell your car which you can't do with an ECUTEK.

So for your own sake try to get a drive in a car with a ANDY F ECUTEK MAP and a proper GEMS MAP.

Then make your own mind up.

These are my personal thoughts as i may be wrong on some issues.

personally mate i wouldnt go for ecutek on your car, noticed a massive improvement in my car since changing from ecutek to the gems and reckon it is definitely worth the ££, just wish i had gone for it a lot earlier as the car is running much better now....

Did you know that the proper antilag should be ran off the vacuum from your engine which means no brakes when you approach a corner on the brakesface-icon-small-shocked.gif so my mapper was trying to work rounds this so i can get the effect from antilag at standstill and driving on track. He'll look at it again next time he's up tho.

i dont use it very often, only occassionally when accelerating up through the gears, dont normally leave it on once its in full flow or coming to corners

Just to add, my Gems was on a classic (my98) so i cant comment on running on a newage, as the newer ecu has more functions than the one i had.

But even then,

Cold start was a nightmare, hot start was a nightmare. Idle would vary, boost would sometimes not hit target, and then othertimes go way over target...

Yes, you get lots of pops/bangs/flames...But not worth paying the extra money, and having the extra hassle just for that.

Although, mine was only ever mapped by one mapper.

As for Anti-lag, it worked extremely well on my car, never once had an issue when braking.

As you said m8 you can was only mapped by one mapper.

What if your car was mapped perfectly...would you be happy with it then?

With no hot or cold start issues..would you be happier still?

So give the GEMS ECU a chance and it can perform.

I recon the mapper done it different on some cars.

Just ask Squirrell about ANTILAG things
