wrxmania Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 Big MEGA thanks to Gav and Ian Grieve Subaru in Camelon, Falkirk for spending so much time trying to find some issues with my car. Very helpful, way above and beyond the call of duty and a far cry from the disgraceful Drive Subaru, which was there before. Most importantly thanks to Gav for advice, courtesy car and honesty in car discussion. I know where I'll be taking my car for its' next service. BUT WHAT ABOUT THE NEW FRONT END - PRODRIVE SPLITTER It has really transformed the look of the car - just need to watch out for dips, low things, kerbs and driveways, potholes, lumps, grains of dust in the road, you get the drift. The front end looks so much less bland, much lower and much more aggressive. What do you think???? Pictures are from my camera phone so apologies for the quality, but you get the idea. Brian
jcscoob Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 Very nice'n'hard lookig Wot about some fog light covers ? I think they would just be ace
wrxmania Posted January 7, 2006 Author Posted January 7, 2006 There are actually branded Prodrive fog light protectors/covers on the front. I was trying not to give the car an STI look-a-like front end - something a bit different, more WR1 ish. Covers maybe - quite like the fogs look. Proudly he says "I am not ashamed its' not an STI". There I've said it - I am brave Brian
wrxmania Posted January 7, 2006 Author Posted January 7, 2006 The fogs actually need a damn good clean, behind the protectors...need to take the front spats off and get the protectors off - that's the spring time MEGA clean it needs. By then it will be nearly three years old. Amazing - doesn't seem that long. Brian
sharon_mccall Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 Brian - thats a damn sexy look m8, I am well impressed. Nice 1!
wrxmania Posted January 7, 2006 Author Posted January 7, 2006 Thanks Shazza I have been driving a 2.0 GX Sport for the last few days - very good it was too Here is a picture (attached) just for you
sharon_mccall Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 Thanks for the pic. I would love a wee shot to see the difference between Ruby and a new one. Maybe scoobyseller will be kind enough to let me have a wee shot......................me thinks not!
wrxmania Posted January 7, 2006 Author Posted January 7, 2006 100% sure he would - it is their demo car. Someone was taking it for a test drive this morning apparently... Drives very nicely. Brian
irish al Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 If i was going to get a splitter for the front of my car to make it look more agressive, and in my opinion far nicer looking than the sti front corner splitters then i would definately of bought one of those.......... So i did and its in the paint shop just now , but wont be ready till arround 20th. I know someone else who got one as well I dont like the sti front end, and like you prefer seeing the fog lights than the covers, and either this or a scott lowe splitter than the corner bits. It looks really good, I had mine on the car before it went for painting and i liked it then. Cant decide if i need to paint my black side skirts or if it will look ok as i have black mud flaps as well. Am trying to picture yours with black skirts, not sure yet...
wrxmania Posted January 7, 2006 Author Posted January 7, 2006 I'd always say paint the skirts - they do look better - if you're gonna add on a splitter like this, you may as well get the side skirts done - it was very worthwhile when I got mine done ages ago. I think now the combination of the Prodrive splitter, the Prodrive Spoiler and the painted sideskirts - it looks much better than a normal 2003 plain silver WRX does. No doubt. A bit less subtle though, but - hey - when was an Impreza subtle. Brian
wrxmania Posted January 7, 2006 Author Posted January 7, 2006 Oh, and I think the other "geezer" who bought one is thinking of keeping ther STI spates on and selling the splitter instead... Brian
oobster Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 Yup.... i think that is his intention. I got my Scott Lowe splitter delivered yesterday, and dropped it off to the painters today. Spotted the two prodrive splitters when i was in Each to their own - everyone's opinion is valid! Personally, i prefer the look of the STI-corner bits + the Scott Lowe splitter but then if we were all the same life would be awfy boring! My corner-bits are also in getting re-done. Hopefully remain chip-free for a wee while at least. Nice car by the way Brian, pics don't do it justice. Ever considered a de-tango, just to finish-off that front end?
wrxmania Posted January 7, 2006 Author Posted January 7, 2006 De-tango is very close to being an option. Just building up the courage for the hairdryer/oven special Just the thought of 2 x £15 for two pairs of silver bulbs - seems a bit mad - maybe have a quick look on eBay for some bargains... It would look good - really silver up the front end - just want to get a lower Grille kit too - save the radiator foundation. Its' nice to see different people doing different things in different ways - let's keep it that way. Hope the STI Spats turn out well this time. And there will be a plague of these Prodrive splitters on the go... Brian
G.T. Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 looks mint brian imho looks nicer than the sti spats just my opinion before you all have a rant dont dislike the spats either get your hairdryer out and 30 squid for the bulbs tighterse
st3ph3n Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 Brian, what cameraphone do you use? Just for future reference if I ever need a camera with a blue filter pre-installed. Car's looking good though. You're on prodrive springs aren't you? So you'll really be cacking it for a few weeks with the lower front clearance. I know I have been with my Teins + Scott Lowe Splitter.
wrxmania Posted January 7, 2006 Author Posted January 7, 2006 << get your hairdryer out and 30 squid for the bulbs tighterse >> Not even so much the £30 - its that fact they have the cheek to charge £30 for four orange bulbs sprayed silver - I may get some spray on them - lots of people on Scoobynet seem to have done that - a light coating on the standard bulbs. I have the silver spray - maybe try it on the rears first!! Brian
oobster Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 Just an option, but you don't HAVE to buy the silvatec ones. I used clear bulbs, painted them vermillion orange (Austin Metro colour) then once that was dry i painted them matt silver. Turned out ok! They are still on the car, in the rear lenses though (as i'd already ordered the bulbs from revolution before I got the de-tango done). When i say 'I' - it was actually Jamie (H1 5OOB) that done mine. Took about 2.5hrs, if i recall. I might still have 3/4 of a can of each colour lying out in the hut if you wanted to go for the cheaper option
oobster Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 Ah - see what happens when we both post @ the same time
wrxmania Posted January 7, 2006 Author Posted January 7, 2006 << Brian, what cameraphone do you use? Just for future reference if I ever need a camera with a blue filter pre-installed. >> It's a Samsung SGH600 - need to set it - I must have it on the wrong daylight setting I think. I specialise in blue pictures << Car's looking good though. You're on prodrive springs aren't you? So you'll really be cacking it for a few weeks with the lower front clearance. I know I have been with my Teins + Scott Lowe Splitter. >> Had any issues yet? Scraped very much? I am on Prodrive springs, well settled in. The flaps scrape anyway, on the high setting - I DON'T LIKE ROAD BUMPS. Brian
sKunk Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 I have the Scott Lowe splitter on my 2003 STI and it transformed the front end. Looks great colour coded instead of plain black like a lot of people have.
wrxmania Posted January 7, 2006 Author Posted January 7, 2006 Not seen you about for a while - how's life and the STI? Brian
wrxmania Posted January 7, 2006 Author Posted January 7, 2006 Some new pictures, minus the blue tinge Brian
st3ph3n Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 I might have caught the splitter once with a fully loaded car in a bumpy road that wasn't maintained at all. Most major incident was when I couldn't get into one of our sites at work because the speed bumps were just too big. They were meant for coal lorrys though. Just meant I had to use a company car rather than my own, which was fine. Anyone ever hung the backend out on a Nissan Pathfinder whilst "taking it easy" because the car "isn't a rally car like yours"? Just me?
ANDYJDMSTI Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 << its' nice to see different people doing different things in different ways - let's keep it that way. Brian >> Well, there is different then there is.........................different!!! "Looks great colour coded instead of plain black like a lot of people have." True, very true. Unless of course it is CF!!
