window tints glasgow- whats legal whats not

Hi

I am thinking seriously about tinting the windows on the S500OOB and dont know the legal requirements and how dark it can be and where you can tint.

not the front windscreen etc.

does anyone know more about this? and also ideas......

all windows except the front?

JDM stylie rear and back only?

RA stylie, silvery rears and back?

If it were me i would go for mild tints on everything apart from windscreen (obviously!)

I've got tints all round chris, and i got stopped at a falkirk cruise i attended (wont be going again!)

Front two windows were above the legal limit so i was advised to have the tint removed.

Tints are on my list too. I quite like the WRC style silver ones. They'd look cooler then a polar bear's toenails on yours Chris. But not on a black car. I wasn't going to touch the windscreen but do the rest. I know the faq says 75% of light must get through, but what sort of percentage to people actually run with?

When they (VOSA) tested mine only 47% of light got thru - well below the 70% or 75% thats allowed.

Fortunately they were only issuing tickets to folk that had under 40% that night.

When i put my car in to get tinted, i got them to do the lightest smoke possible, which i thought was 30% - it now looks like it was 50% i got fitted.

Nope, probably was only 30% tint, but added to the factory 17-20% tint will bring you to your 47%

I think I'll save my pennies until next year for the rest of Project Arcturus and leave the windows for now.

careful with the fronts my sis in law had her fronts heavily tinted and the fuzz made her remove them

Gumball as you know we got our front ones tinted and they ended up getting ripped off by Vosa this is becasue although the tint we had on the car my have been legal unfortunately subarus come with tint already on the windows and therefore we were putting tint on top of tint thats what made ours illegal. Oobster may have been pulled by vosa but we have been told that if you get pulled by the police then they give a higher fine and points where as vosa only tell you to rip them off then get the tint test done again.

In my opinion get the JDM style save you the hassle from vosa and the police as my inside sources have told me that along with the general stops that get done at xmas the tints will be checked also!!!!

thanks to all for your advice. Claire, i see what your saying about the tint percentage already on the glass and have decided which route to go down.

should have them either tomorrow or next week latest.

My sunglasses are 75% tinted, does that make me illegal on the roads lol

I removed my front drops - light smoke Pentagon after they changed the law last year

Liked them but like Oobster they were over the limit.

Not worth it. Now have clear Supagaurd film, which stops the UV/sunlight but not the light getting through.

best place to go for tints IMHO is pentagon mate....not sure where they are based in glasgow, but know they have a place at spring kerse in stirling....
