vicki Posted December 2, 2005 Posted December 2, 2005 Hi Guys Was back at S&S Services today with my car. Since I got it when moving off in first and changing to second gear the clutch judders a bit. Have left it a couple of weeks now and gettin used to it but still not happy. S&S agreed there was a judder but said it is a characterist of the classic model and if he put a new clutch in it, chances are it would still be the same. I have to leave it another few weeks then get back in touch with him if it gets any worse or still not happy. Service from the garage was good, but was just wondering if anyone else experiences this. "Still love my scooby" Vic
scoobykev Posted December 2, 2005 Posted December 2, 2005 sounds like your flywheel is knackered, just replaced my clutch as it was slipping, i also had a nasty judder and was informed it was the flywheel, could've got it skimmed but put a new one in instead, i'd take it back and get it fixed
dipsy Posted December 2, 2005 Posted December 2, 2005 Vicki i had a my2000 uk turbo and the clutch never juddered and saying it was characterist of the classic model rubbish. They are trying to get out of fitting a new clutch and flywheel .Take it back and get it fixed
vicki Posted December 2, 2005 Author Posted December 2, 2005 Cheers guys, very helpful. I know know what to say when I go back
jcscoob Posted December 2, 2005 Posted December 2, 2005 Vikky, i have a 99 and changed the clutch also and no judder, so its like dipsy says nothing to do with it being a classic !! Take it back and get him TOLD
paddy247 Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 most likely a high spot on your flywheel, new or skimed flywheel should do the trick
ian_finlayson Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 I have to disagree and say that it is a common fault on the classics. before I bought the car I did a lot of research into what to look for in a classic and clutch judder was mentioned by lots of people. I heard that sometimes fitting a new clutch works, others said fitting a P1 flywheel sorts it and others said nothing works. Once its warm its fine on mine but some mornings the car judders all over the place. I don't do it very often but I know an " aggressive" start will clean the clutch surface and sort the juddering for a while.
jamie_wood Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 Finnie is right. Its a common problem with these cars and not always just the Classic's There isnt much that can be done about the problem. Fit a new clutch and/or flywheel but it might happen again. My first Uk car had this problem most of the time and the easiest way to cure it was to stick it in third gear and try to pull away from a stop with a little rev's. The car wont even need to move, its just to get the clutch slipping I made the clutch slip for 5-10 seconds and it was perfect for another wee while. Might not work on your car, its did on mine though. Good luck
Johnny50 Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 Yup ! Both my classics, and others that i've driven, have suffered from it.
bmc Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 Vicki don't suppose your cars a blue s reg bought recently at S&S?
dougster Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 Clutch judder on mine when I got it!! Skimmed it myself buy some hot starts!!!!! Inherent problem, just like piston slap on the '97/8 models.
wilky Posted December 6, 2005 Posted December 6, 2005 WILKYS REMEDIES- VOLUME 1 CHAPTER 4 PARAGRAPH 5 When encountering clutch judder on a subaru Impreza the following can be done to attempt to solve this problem. 1. Change clutch and have flywheel skimmed at great expense. 2. Go back to garage brandishing a blunt object and demand it be fixed (Only valid if problem occured while car was being serviced, probably caused by a garage employee playing at Andy F during a test drive) 3. Take the car to a quite stretch of road, stop, check there is no one around, then attempt to emulate the afore mentioned subaru Guru coming off the line at crail on a sub 10 second run a couple of times to see if this clears the problem. 4. If all else fails, live with it and be thankful you own a subaru and not a rover.
vicki Posted December 6, 2005 Author Posted December 6, 2005 Hi Tried Jamie's wee trick and Wilky's Vol 1, Ch 4, Para 5, No. 3. Problems seems to be solved "for now" Thanks for your advice and help
vicki Posted December 19, 2005 Author Posted December 19, 2005 Just a wee update on my clutch judder. Tried various things to try and help but its still annoying me, so I am getting a new clutch assembly on Tuesday at S&S Services. Might pass someone on my way home Tue night and hopefully get my first WAVE!!!! (well second, first was from an Evo)

vicki Posted December 21, 2005 Author Posted December 21, 2005 Got my car back tonight from S&S Services with its new clutch. It was all washed for me too. No more juddering. Been out a run tonight getting re-aquainted. Thanks to S&S, always helpful and friendly. No waves on the way home tho (Do you think its because I hadn't washed my hair Peter lol )
st3ph3n Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 I rarely get waves either Vicki. The odd gesture that I'm an avid masturbator, but no waves. Good news about the car though. If I see you in Hamilton I'll wave.
Grovit Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 Glad you got the car sorted Vicki. I've heard before that classics suffer a bit from judder (mine does a tiny bit as well), but it's no major rave. Stephen - you in Hamilton....? (moi aussi) - will have to keep my eyes peeled more carefully for you
