Jenni Posted November 28, 2005 Posted November 28, 2005 Hi All, How is everyone? The Oil needs topping up in my car, and I'm not sure what the best one is to buy? Can someone recommend one please? Cheers, Jen.
robert_harding Posted November 28, 2005 Posted November 28, 2005 ive always used Shell Helix Ultra 5w 40. ask Paul whats in his P1.
paul n Posted November 28, 2005 Posted November 28, 2005 Hi Jenni, Ours is running Castrol Magnetec, some people say use other oils but dealer uses it and had no problems, know some dealers use other oils, may be an idea to ring your dealer and ask what's in it. Be very careful not to overfill, leave just below the max, if you overfill, it can contaminate the MAF sensor and cause engine problems. Cheers Paul
paul n Posted November 28, 2005 Posted November 28, 2005 Oops, manners were fine thanks, how are you? Paul
Jenni Posted November 28, 2005 Author Posted November 28, 2005 Thanks Mean & Green and Paul, will take a look at both. I'm good thanks, paticularly after today's football result! I'm an avid Everton supporter (say that quietly ) so I'm quite happy with today's result!
rasher Posted November 28, 2005 Posted November 28, 2005 Hi Jenni just to throw a spanner in the works I(Prosport in Stockport) use Castrol RS Fully synthetic
rasher Posted November 28, 2005 Posted November 28, 2005 Jenni do a search there have been lots of threads on which is the best oil to use. Aguy who calls himself oilman is very knowledgeable on the subject
Jenni Posted November 28, 2005 Author Posted November 28, 2005 Cheers Rasher, much appreciated. I've searched under Oil and now have a better idea of what grade to buy. Probably going to go with 10w/50, 10w/40(?) or the most synthetic(?). Will top-up very carefully though!! I'll probably post a thread next week saying "I've wrecked my engine!" fingers crossed I will be ok. Thanks again.
blue boy Posted November 28, 2005 Posted November 28, 2005 Might be worth phoning the garage that last serviced it, to see what they put in. I'm not sure how fully synthetic & semi synthetic would mix in case the latter's in already.
Scoobie Elf Posted November 29, 2005 Posted November 29, 2005 Apologises for gate crashing this thread but I spoke to Prosport the other day and they told me they used a 10-30 semi. I'm confused what is should be topping mine up with.
blue boy Posted November 29, 2005 Posted November 29, 2005 I think it depends if you are driving a UK or Import car as to what they use. Scoobie Elf where are you based? and what's your excuse for not joining CADS if you're in the Stockport area?????LOL
rasher Posted November 29, 2005 Posted November 29, 2005 << Prosport the other day and they told me they used a 10-30 semi >> I asked them to put a good fully synthetice in mine
rasher Posted November 29, 2005 Posted November 29, 2005 they do change what type of oil thy put in from time to time I thin,k I have had 2 different fully synthetic oils in mine both services were done at Prosport
rasher Posted November 29, 2005 Posted November 29, 2005 << I'm confused what is should be topping mine up with. >> a semi synthetic ,dont mix the 2 mate
Jenni Posted November 30, 2005 Author Posted November 30, 2005 I took my car back to the garage I bought it from as it's still under warranty. The front skirt had come away slightly, so I got that fixed and mentioned what Oil they had put in the car. They use Shell Helix Ultra 5/40 semi synthetic and they topped it up for me. Bonus!!
rasher Posted November 30, 2005 Posted November 30, 2005 nice one, how did you find the service from Graham Walkers??
Jenni Posted November 30, 2005 Author Posted November 30, 2005 Graham Walker had MOT'd and Serviced the car before I bought it and I haven't had any problems as yet, mind you I've only had it 2 months! I've always found the customer care and service really good. It's only down the road from where I work in Chester and I know them quite well now, so if you need me to query anything just let me know.
