chris_c201 Posted November 15, 2005 Posted November 15, 2005 Alright Folks, Quick reminder that 5th gear is about to start on 5, think they are doing some tests on Optimax and SUL etc tonight, should be interesting! Cheers Chris
sharon_mccall Posted November 15, 2005 Posted November 15, 2005 I think Ruby is a bit faster wi optimax. or am i imagining it?
spooks Posted November 15, 2005 Posted November 15, 2005 Just me that was disapointed with the BHP figure by the 2.5 litre STi scoob ? Good to know that optimax really does make a differance though. Spooks
chris_c201 Posted November 15, 2005 Author Posted November 15, 2005 Yeh i was puzzled by the power output for the STi as well... As you say though it def justifies paying the extra for the optimax which i did tonight for the FIRST time! Bearing in mind i've only had the car a few weeks.....
alistair_learmonth Posted November 15, 2005 Posted November 15, 2005 First time I seen a gizmo for detecting the BHP in the flesh so to speak. Just a thought while watching, will not connecting straight to the hubs cause some physics as in friction, forces etc. someone more scientific can explain the laws so how does this machine allow from car to car. and arrive at a true figure. Just a thought.
Boyakasha Posted November 15, 2005 Posted November 15, 2005 This way of testing BHP is actually alot more accurate than your standard rolling road. This is due to the fact that there are no variants suchs as tyre size, tyre pressure, slippage on the rollers etc. and as for 250bhp on the 2.5 STi, that sucks. I thought it might have been 250bhp at the wheels but I don't think you would get that on a standard STi unless it was a JDM. Marc
chris_c201 Posted November 15, 2005 Author Posted November 15, 2005 I had thought that but do you not factor in roughly 25% transmission losses so that would imply over 300 at the flywheel? Maybe the PPP if there is one for the new 2.5?? The GTi was reading about 175 as well though and its normally quoted at 200ish so maybe it was at the wheels.... One question i have is when they quote the manufacturers figures do they assume 98ron petrol as for example on my car (bugeye WRX) the quoted figure is 215.... is that 215 with 98 ron or would i expect nearer about 225 with optimax? (yes, clutching at straws, lol) Cheers Chris
johns Posted November 15, 2005 Posted November 15, 2005 I'm wondering what effect only connecting those devices to the front wheels had on power readings ?
chris_c201 Posted November 15, 2005 Author Posted November 15, 2005 Where they not connected to the rears on the impreza.... does the new STi have a DCCD? If so what is the maximum power distibution you can send to one set of wheels?
oobster Posted November 15, 2005 Posted November 15, 2005 They definitely had one of those gizmo's @ each corner.
fai17 Posted November 15, 2005 Posted November 15, 2005 The new STI 2.5 puts out 280bhp at the fly wheel. That Dyno set up looks very good indeed(no slipperage on rollers) Yous should ALWAYS put Optimax in your Scooby,it's not worth blowing your engine for the sake of a few pence. Need to watch it again. It's been taped
chris_c201 Posted November 15, 2005 Author Posted November 15, 2005 I plan on putting optimax in going forward, surely it couldn't knock just cause of 95 ron though if its a UK car mapped for 95?? As you say though not worth the chance as its only pennies plus you get the added boost of slightly better performance, Cheers Chris.
Boyakasha Posted November 15, 2005 Posted November 15, 2005 2.5 STI Type UK Power 280PS - 276BHP Torque 392 Nm - 289 lb/ft
rossyboy1 Posted November 15, 2005 Posted November 15, 2005 I ran my Import WRX on 95 ron for 3 months before I discovered SN and SIDC. Didnt do it any harm, so its highly unlikely that yours has been damaged either.
chris_c201 Posted November 15, 2005 Author Posted November 15, 2005 Didn't really think it could cause any issue, particularly as i've not really thrashed the car at all... How does it go when changing to optimax, how long will it take for the ECU to adjust it accordingly?
st3ph3n Posted November 15, 2005 Posted November 15, 2005 The ECU will update as it tastes the new fuel running through its veins. My car says use 98 when you open the filler. And that's a standard spec WRX.
chris_c201 Posted November 15, 2005 Author Posted November 15, 2005 Yeh mine says the same... one of the reasons i decided altho not mandatory i would start using optimax..... Jus fitted a green panel filter so between the two i think i can feel a slight extra nudge, prolly my butt dyno tricking me though... Cheers Chris.
