billyboy Posted October 30, 2005 Posted October 30, 2005 Till the next Glasgow meet and i havent had one pm from anybody with any points they wish to bring up or what they expect next year. Come on people you must have some idea what you want?
sharon_mccall Posted October 30, 2005 Posted October 30, 2005 well i want a scooby turbo, for free! and someone to put ptrol in it fro me! edited to saty - am pissed and soorry for bing a tube!
Gumball Posted October 30, 2005 Posted October 30, 2005 Billy, i wont be at the meet so admitedly switched off to the points thing, I will have a think about it and let you know before then.
sharon_mccall Posted October 30, 2005 Posted October 30, 2005 Why dont we have a scottish SIDC show. Encourage new people to join, have loadsa different competitions etc. Get everyone together on the one day. Have a laugh. Just a thought....................................................
ed-209 Posted October 30, 2005 Posted October 30, 2005 Yeh can we have the scottish big day out at knockhill as it's easy to get to. can we also arrange some track days at kames get some scottish scooby sidc stickers/decals made and lastly get halleys to give sidc discount. anymore ideas I will PM you Billy Ed.
dougster Posted October 30, 2005 Posted October 30, 2005 Scottish Big One was at KH before with well over 100 subarus in attendance. Track days at Kames were dependant on SIDC getting club insurance sorted (Del/Phil???) Stickers can be ordered through the club iirc And I thought Halleys DID give discount on production of valid membership card. I have asked if anyone could design a Scottish Scoobies flyer we could distribute to potential new members.???
zeolite Posted October 30, 2005 Posted October 30, 2005 The Scottish SIDC day is at Alford and has been run for the last two years. Well worth going to although driving out of the central belt seems to give some people a nosebleed.
dougster Posted October 30, 2005 Posted October 30, 2005 Well Ian, I certainly didn't have a nosebleed today!!!!!!!!!!!! Good to see you again and NICE car!!!!!!!!!!!!
Gumball Posted October 30, 2005 Posted October 30, 2005 if your getting the support from the powers that be Billy then these points are all good. what you need to watch out for is no sponsorship internally or putting the effort in then getting no return at the moment theres 11 people LOGGED IN that have put their names down for the novermber run/photoshoot yet cant take the time to put themselves into a group. shambles.
zeolite Posted October 31, 2005 Posted October 31, 2005 Dougster...Fife is IN the Cental belt. car got dirty
dougster Posted October 31, 2005 Posted October 31, 2005 The joys of trying to organise something. Keep the heads up guys. You are doing a great job and you can never please everyone. Just ask Milky!!!! BTW I got a nice new HONDA cap this w/e and wore it all the way to St Andrews in the CTR!!!!!!!!!!
2559B Posted October 31, 2005 Posted October 31, 2005 Would love to see a National day organized ........... the whole U.K. SIDC members meet. Somewhere like Blackpool !!! Scottish scoobies stickers ( user name optional ). Santa Cruise information thread .......... Locations / times / donations / etc. ( maybe even a sticky one !!! ).
sharon_mccall Posted October 31, 2005 Posted October 31, 2005 Why don't we try and get lots of tickets for the filming of Top Gear.? I know i've always wanted to do that.
MY94 Posted October 31, 2005 Posted October 31, 2005 Great idea (Top Gear that is),I'd be well up for that....... 10/10 for a top idea.
the squiggle Posted October 31, 2005 Posted October 31, 2005 All the above topics have been discussed in the past. {Apart from the Top Gear one which is ace} A mock regional flyer was made up by Malky which would have done the trick but was not followed through with. I even offered to pay for 1000 colour flyers, 250 for each region, to be made up but not mentioned again Scoobay was looking into an event at Kames but, again, was not followed through with AFAIK Halleys has given us the 10% discount Phil Stephens got us some stickers made up with our user name but i dont know if these are still available A Scottish Big One, to rival the NBO, was talked abot very enthusiastically by a few members but, once again, not followed through or encouraged by the Top Brass. One thing that has been very successfull over the past 6 months has been the ScottishScoobies clothing range. This was an idea originnaly brought up by a forum member, Gayle, but if it was not for the commitment of another forum member, micra-wrc, then it would have stayed at the idea stage and would not have generated about £2000 in sales with a profit of about £200 going to Santa Cruise. It is what we want to do as a whole community and not just a regional section but to progress we must get past the "taliking about it" and move on to the actual "Getting off our bums and doing it" and the clothing range is an excellent example of someone taking the bull by the horns and running with it. if we just sit and talk about it then nothing will happen as we all have "more important things to do". This community of ours has grown quite well over the past while but it does need a clear sense of what we are wanting to do with the club, events wise, and how we aim to promote the club to new potential members. Just my humble 2ps worth Grant
ScoobyAndy Posted October 31, 2005 Posted October 31, 2005 Well said Grant. Everyones had some vey good ideas there. Sharon... excellent idea. lets get the powers that be organised and see what we can do!
Gumball Posted October 31, 2005 Posted October 31, 2005 well said Grant. I mentioned that possibly the support may not be there and i have heard from people previously that simple things like Keyrings cant even be nailed down from the club???!! There was also mention of an annula membership being given to the winner of whatever competition it was at the time. news letters? i amongst many many others sat for night on end (not constantly i might add but still) to come up with the name of a newsletter for the Glasgow region on a monthly basis. Billyboy put a lot of effort into doing this and making things happen when he first took over. to no avail it would seem? I think it must be a very time consuming and demanding role as an RO and feel embarressed for the guys when they put a lot of work into things that in the end, when the chips are down becomes "PIE IN THE SKY" Old members, new members, glasgow/fife/lothian/central/northern...were all sidc members and should be doing everything we can to encourage the happiness, the reward and the community spirit of this club. If that meanspulling together and getting things done from time to time then so be it. Its all for the good IMHO a lot of events are organised through the intuition of members alone. think how good it would be if there was more than this happening !!!!!!!!!!! Strip me of my suuporters tag, post up calling me a knob, whatever. its water off a ducks back now. what we need from top to bottom- private to brigadier is team spirit and less teflon shoulders and blame culture
dan_jess Posted November 1, 2005 Posted November 1, 2005 I think the stickers is a good start, nothing fancy, just a simple www.scottishscoobies.co.uk wud do. The reason i found this site is because i saw SCOOBAY'S car in mcdonalds one day and read his sunshield sticker and decided to log on. Theres loadsa scoobs i c kicking about all over the place but of the ones i see, 2 my knowledge are not on here. It's easy advertising, every1 knows how much ur scoob gets noticed, especially by the other scooby drivers u see. As for organising a day, well theres plenty of days out anyway, knockhill and crail r on regularly, plenty of people go, but a lot of the time its groups of people that already know each other and that can put people off, they need to be encouraged to go along and join in.
ian_craig2 Posted November 1, 2005 Posted November 1, 2005 the main problem here is people are to quick to shoot you down in flames as i found out the hard way, and now have the why bother attitude!! i rieceved abuse over pm and messenger because my ideas did not tally with the long timer's shall we say to avoid names. would love to see these ideas getting the attention they deserve just my side of the story not the views of anyone important!!
micra_wrc Posted November 1, 2005 Posted November 1, 2005 << It is what we want to do as a whole community and not just a regional section but to progress we must get past the "taliking about it" and move on to the actual "Getting off our bums and doing it" and the clothing range is an excellent example of someone taking the bull by the horns and running with it. if we just sit and talk about it then nothing will happen as we all have "more important things to do". >> aww shucks TBH it takes a lot of time, effort, thought and energy into organising events/clothes/runs/club-related PR. There are a lot of members here that have the imagination and motivation for new events but ideas seem to fall down when it actually comes to doing it. i think a stronger steer from the top would be beneficial (re flags and all the ideas suggested here) and perhaps we should be supportive towards new events, as i know there is a vast spectrum of scooby-related activities that could take place. we should bear in mind that we have achieved a lot in the short time scottish scoobies has come into being and it makes me happy to see folk wearing the SS clothes and proud to have been able to provide that (though I could have done without the stress ) edited to say that i think the ROs have done a fab job, cos it aint easy !
andrew_duff Posted November 1, 2005 Posted November 1, 2005 "The main problem here is people are to quick to shoot you down in flames as i found out the hard way, and now have the why bother attitude!!" . That certainly sounds a familiar tale within the sidc , mores the pity ! I think im right in saying that all these ideas and more have been mentioned in the past (except top gear) and years on its new members coming up with the same ideas as myself and others have had before. The problem is political and the R.o 's need to push the scottish committee etc. into doing what the scottish members want .Less talking and more doing. Andy. P.s As Ive said many times before ....go along to the regularly held local meets and voice youre opinions in person. P.P.S Comments like Dicksters never ever help.
ScoobyAndy Posted November 1, 2005 Posted November 1, 2005 << "The main problem here is people are to quick to shoot you down in flames as i found out the hard way, and now have the why bother attitude!!" . >> Therefor dont give up. Keep trying and stand up for what you and maybe one or two others think is a good idea. If need be go straight to you R.O or higher with suggestions. Everyone deservers a right to an opinion
andrew_duff Posted November 1, 2005 Posted November 1, 2005 As Ian will also tell you BEEN THERE .....DONE that and unfortunately been acused as have others of being to enthusiastic ............not any more Andy.
ScoobyAndy Posted November 1, 2005 Posted November 1, 2005 << As Ian will also tell you BEEN THERE .....DONE that and unfortunately been acused as have others of being to enthusiastic ............not any more Andy. >> Sorry to hear that mate. Those that do need to learn how to be diplomatic then. Without these ideas from old members and new ones the club will take time to grow. With these ideas, the sky's the limit
