McFlash Posted September 28, 2005 Posted September 28, 2005 Anyone any idea, from experience, how a WRX PPP would compare with an M3 in performance terms. I'm tempted by one or a WR1 and wondered if anyone had any experience of either car. Moving to 'Germany' would be a big move for me from Japan and its all about driving enjoyment for me. They don't seem to be the easiest of cars to track down for a test drive. Cheers
craigdmcd Posted September 28, 2005 Posted September 28, 2005 I worked for BMW for 6 weeks late last year, and was very disappointed after all the hype. Certainly the M3's are quick once they rev, but it wasn't nice having to work them that way. Maybe the customers hadn't run them in well enough for me, I don't know. I haven't had a shot of a WR1, but do have a 04 WRX PPP, and whilst it may not have the ultimate pace in a straight line, I do believe that I could push it hard on a decent A or B road. Oh, and the old addage about M3's being pants in the wet is absolutely true, especially with the 19" rims.
~ ~ Cal ~~ Posted September 28, 2005 Posted September 28, 2005 We live in a maritime climate in Ecosse and M3's dont' make a burble .........catch my drift I like the longer gearing of the WRX for everyday driving but WR1 would be the chosen one.... Sti with PPP in balck or steel grey is a good alternative
Bing Posted September 28, 2005 Posted September 28, 2005 Agree with Cal, theres also a big difference in price! Stick with the Japo's
MY94 Posted September 28, 2005 Posted September 28, 2005 If I was always driving motorways and wasn't skint I'd have an M3.But as I'm skint and drive the twistys alot I don't. I did have a loan of and older M3 for about a month.Takes a bit of getting used to rear wheel drive and a different sort of power delivery.Great chassy,suspension,breaks,engine..... I really grew to like it. The only thing I really missed from the Scooby was the seats and the sound. The M3 sits at high speeds on the motorway really comfortably, where as the Scooby doesn't(I have a jap STi/gearing ratio etc)When I got back into my Scooby after being away from it so long(getting fixed), the main difference I noticed was the Scooby needs harder suspension,I felt I was driving a bouncy castle, thus my credit card bares the Whitle Line scars:-) I know nothing and this is just MY experience of the M3 and Scooby PS I think Eden Subaru or the Mitsibishi garage next door have the very same M3 for sale!!Give them a visit.
fai17 Posted September 28, 2005 Posted September 28, 2005 The M3 are great cars but in the wet the Scooby would leave it for dead. Not unless you are used to rear wheel drive i would stick to the Scoobs. If i was you i would get STI8 and modify it rather than spending all your dosh on a WR1. Don't get me wrong tho the WR! is beautifull but i know which one will be quicker once you modified STI8(just ask GordyNO1) At the end of the day its still your choice m8. Do you really want to leave this SUPERB club???
scientific steve Posted September 28, 2005 Posted September 28, 2005 having owned a M3 Evo before i bought the scoob i have to agree with the others, can be quite interesting in the wet oh, and also consider getting a small runabout for the winter if you do get one cause it wont be going anyplace in the snow trust me on that one, the m3 evo dont have any traction control !!!!!!! dont get me wrong i loved the m3, i had the 4 door one and found it was fantastic, it was a hoot on the back roads and brill on the motorways and at the end of a long trip it was very kind to your spine and backside yes the scoob will kick it's tail but i still hanker for the way bmw get the little things right just my 2 pence worth
Gumball Posted September 28, 2005 Posted September 28, 2005 evo's, other scoobs and other machines dont put the fear into me like an M3 will. i just think that the bmw M3 is rapido and its going to be a hard drive to beat it.
McFlash Posted September 28, 2005 Author Posted September 28, 2005 Thanks guys - great feedback. As I say I would find it hard to give up the Scoob so will bide my time for a decent STI or WR1. Cheers
gordyN01 Posted September 29, 2005 Posted September 29, 2005 HI THERE I HAVE WR1 YES ITS LOVELY CAR GREAT COLOUR BETTER THAN THE WR BLUE LOL JUST KIDDING MUST SAY IN MY OPINION U COULD SPEC A STI TO THIS SPEC EXCEPT COLOUR BUT AS WE ALL KNOW SUBARU JUST BEND US OVER AS ALWAYS BUT IM HAPPY WITH CAR LOVELY TOO DRIVE AND QUICK ENOUGH FOR NOW IF I WAS GOING FOR A M3 ID GO FOR THE CSL THE STRIPED OUT VERSION WITH CARBON ROOF WHAT A CAR NEXT CAR FOR ME WILL PROBALY BE A TYPE 25 OR A RA SPEC C IN TYPE 25 SPEC GORDY
