New highway code rules regarding Passing

Yes! It seems I'm not the only one that has missed these.

It seems if you safely overtake someone then they are encouraged to then drive well outwith the limits of their car to catch you and when they get behind you as you're travelling safely behind slower traffic then they should drive within 6 inches of your bumper then pretend as if they're overtaking you despite there being 10 cars in the queue and loads of corners on the road.

But seriously. It was a guy (looked like an old ned) driving a newish Mondeo, with his family in the car - wife and 3 kids, and he decided to drive like a complete w***er. I went past a Fiesta and him in the one move with LOOOOOAAAAADSSSS of room given to them. He was only doing 40 on a good national speed limit road. Not a car coming in the other direction.

Are people that jealous of nice cars, or are they just afraid their manhood has been brought into question?

you get that a lot on the roads.

As you mentioned people to think to themselves " that car has just smoked me as if i dont exsist, so therefor my manhoods been brought into question"

seems a bit strange TBH why these people do it???!!!

If for instance a .............................DB9 or a GT3 or something appears behind me then yes i would pull out the way.

maybe they just need to realise that the Blue, black, green, silver, red, white letterbox shaped scoop behind them means...

dont try it

I let these schmucks follow me at close range and then wait for a nice tight corner and completely gun it whilst watching them struggle with their lame assed rep. mobile chasiss's....................the results are even more amusing with SUV's ..........

What I need is remotely activated brake lights so I can scare the living sh*te out of them. Didn't want to do it for real as new brake pads = little play on the peddle for no braking but brake lights on.

If the road had been clear ahead he would never have seen me again, but there was a lorry with 10 cars stuck behind it. When we hit a roundabout I took the wrong lane and paired myself with a slow discovery that I knew I'd get in front of and head the way I wanted. The mondeo guy looked like a total psycho ned so I wasn't sticking around to see what his game was.

Oobster's summed it up. Lost count of the number of times I've cruised past somebody on the motorway at 75-80'ish (i.e. not gunning it or being a tw@t) only to have them blast past me at 100+ 5 minutes later - often grinning at me inanely as if to say "I smoked a Scoob". They don't understand that having a fast car doesn't mean it's compulsory to drive fast 100% of the time.

Yeah, best to do it a couple of miles or so before built up areas i find. Slowing down to the 30/40/50 limit gives them a good chance to catch up and prove the following:

A: they are breaking speed limits in built up areas, paying no regard to pedestrians/residents

B: they obviously care a lot about the safety of their family in the car with them

C: they have a chipolata

I love it, maintain the speed limit right until the NSL signs and off we go. Even better in a 12 year old Cavalier. face-icon-small-happy.gif

Steady on with the 'nice cars' comments - the Impreza is an ugly bugger face-icon-small-tongue.gif When I pass an Impreza my thoughts are rarely 'oh, wish I had one of them'.  Sorry to burst the bubble.

Impreza might spike some people to try it, but then again  - irrelevant of what car a fud is driving they will try it with any car they think has pissed up the wall higher than them.  Feck, my little civic seems to annoy all sorts purely cause its a wee 1.4 thats passing them?

I didn't really mean nice car as in pretty to look at Mark. I suppose I meant faster or more expensive or just simply a car they'd like to own more than their current rep mobile/crap ned car/super mini/clapped out banger.

No one can really accuse the Impreza of being a real looker. But I'm sure that's not what most of us bought them for.

Its not so much the car, as just being passed by anyone that seems to annoy these losers.

I used to have great difficulty (mainly with bmws...) in my old 1.1 fiesta as I didn't have the power to overtake comfortably them without a run up through the bends. All it usually takes to lose these guys is a couple of descent bends. Quite scary when someone doesn't want you to pass but can't drive round bends, and is prepared to put their family's lives at risk by overdriving.

These days they are much quicker to admit defeat, and just let me disappear! face-icon-small-happy.gif
