pedals Posted September 4, 2005 Posted September 4, 2005 Checked my oil today and it was really thin, unscrewed the oil cap and had a sniff to find a strong smell of petrol! Is this likely to be petrol in my oil? Does anybody know what could be causing this and how to fix it? The engine is a MY93, is decated and has a HKS air induction kit. Sometimes when driving along i get a strong smell of petrol for a few seconds, not sure if this is related to the problem. Any advice would be greatly appreciated Cheers Graeme
dipsy Posted September 5, 2005 Posted September 5, 2005 When did you change the oil last.I would think it needs an oil change

Marky-San Posted September 5, 2005 Posted September 5, 2005 If its likely to be bore wash then it just as likely to be rebuild time. Had this twice with my old car (imported 94 STI). The petrol thins down the oil causing the temperature to rise really high, combined with the no protection for oil in your engine as its so thin... Nasty stuff. Unlucky mate if thats what it is.

paddy247 Posted September 5, 2005 Posted September 5, 2005 Ive had my d/v on my car for 2 years now with no problems, I change my oil very regulary, every 3000 miles.
scoobymadburd Posted September 5, 2005 Posted September 5, 2005 We have a dump valve on our 97 wagon and we change our oil every 3000 miles so we dont get bore wash. As for jamies challenge dump valves can cause bore wash so put the dump valve in the bin??? Claire
pedals Posted September 6, 2005 Author Posted September 6, 2005 The thing is, i dont have an uprated dump valve, just the standard one. Was speaking to the main man when it comes to all things subaru, and im going to change my air induction back to a standard one, change my oil and see if that makes a difference. heres hoping graeme
jamie_wood Posted September 6, 2005 Posted September 6, 2005 Just had a thought What with the price of fuel going up n' all that... why dont you drain the oil and seperate it from the petrol. Save yourself a pretty penny and everyone is happy
