corsa Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 I am due to get my rear struts changed on my 04 STI this week due to knocking, this is being done by the dealer under warranty. What i would like to know is does changing the struts involve adjustingor resetting the geometry settings or is just a case of one off one on? Thanks in advance Davie
p1ggm Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 mine have been changed 3 times...i am getting annoyed with it
sma01 Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 original struts were prone to this problem, however when the car is in for the warranty work, the original parts should have been replaced by a modified version of the standard struts, so the problem should no re-occur, had mines changed and had no further problems. now have tein coilovers on the car too
p1ggm Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 i am planning tien with edfc once the warranty is out
fraser_drinkwater Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 good man, you will love them. Its like adding 50 bhp/50 lbs/ft of torque, as you dont need to slow down! train on train tracks (well where else to trains run on ?) psmsl
sma01 Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 or tein on tein tracks?? agree with swiggi, teins are awesome
johns Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 There shouldn't be any need to adjust the geometry if it's just the rear struts that are swapped over. The rear camber isn't adjustable (well not by more than a very small amount unless you use fancy bolts). The settings for toe-in/out etc shouldn't be modified, as they don't need to slacken anything else off other than the mounting bolts. John
corsa Posted July 19, 2005 Author Posted July 19, 2005 Thanks for the replies guys, Swiggi i am not really interested in upgrating or modding the Scoob as the Corsa takes all my spare cash(just ask Sharon) i just wanted some advice on whether i need to start quizzing my dealer over the geometry reset only to find out it is not reqd. Cheers guys. Davie
drb5 Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 Personnally i would get it done, as i've found for even the small amount of movement there, it can change the car on the road dramatically. You can find the rear end is actually helping you go round corners believe it or not!
andy_robertson Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 << Get tein coil overs >> sorry to be dumb but what they?
Gumball Posted July 19, 2005 Posted July 19, 2005 Theyre adjustable struts and springs that swiggi has which allow him to go round corners as if he was hugging the road like a snake slithering round a tree. no chance of sliding off unless......................... you do slide off i suppose
andy_robertson Posted July 20, 2005 Posted July 20, 2005 how much are they? ive just got eibach lowering springs on mines and it feels great
imprezapete Posted July 21, 2005 Posted July 21, 2005 what sort of noise does this make??? Im getting a noise like a lose window pane rattling when hitting a bump.
corsa Posted July 21, 2005 Author Posted July 21, 2005 The best conditions to hear the said problem is going round a bend and deliberately cut over the drains on a left hander or right hander and you then hear the back end clonking away, could say it was similar to a lot of things but a window pane
