Can we incorporate some camping ? I have no intentions of going against the flow but I'd love to do somewhere north of Ullapool / Kyle of Lochalsh and take on the nutty hairpin section at Applecross

Something like this ?

A85 to Lochearnhead

A82 to Glen Coe

B863 to North Ballachulish via Kinlochleven

A82 to Invergarry

A87 to Eilean Donan Castle & Kyle of Lochalsh

A890 to Strathacarron Station

A896 to Kishorn

White to Applecross (return to Kishorn)

A896 to Kinlochewe

A832 to Falls of Measach

A835 to Ullapool

Campsite - partake of a BBQ & beverages

A835 to Ledmore Junction

A837 to Lochinvar

B869 to Unapool

A894 to Laxford Bridge

A838 to Colaboll

A836 to Lairg

B864 to Inveran

A836 to Bonar Bridge

B9116 to Alness

A9 to Inverness

A9 to Perth

As all the previous runs have been to the other 3 corners of Scottish civilisation it is only fair that we head for the South East area to give everyone a chance to get involved in a run that goes through thier area

Cal, the area you suggest is truly awesome and i am looking to that area for the run after this one.

Which will probably be the September weekend and if i can coax Imy into a tent then yes i am also aiming for camping if not then B+B for us.

As Inverness has the last Optimax stop before the roads from heaven start we could look to slightly north of Inverness for a camping, B+B base. A possible format for the run in Sept would be to meet very early in Inverness, fill up with Optimax then head out for a days driving. Source a campsite/B+B for an overnight p*ss up and another day in the highlands on the Sun burning off some more of the earths natural resources

All for a bit later on and let me concentrate in getting the August run done and dusted then look to the overnighter/weekender

Grant, me and Andy have been talking about a route for this run for some time now after the Edinburgh meet. Can you get in contact with both of us so we can discuss this matter.

We have some CRACKING routes planned, but we need to chat. face-icon-small-wink.gif

Gumball will have 2 of his coils disconnected to drastically reduce the GBL's power output

i think not my dear watson.

its just as slow/quick as the other cars. doesnt really go anyfaster.

i just use the WRC approach to driving. if the windscreen gets broken/chipped- get it swapped out

if the front of the car gets shot to bits- get it resprayed

if the gearbox breaks- its under warranty

so yes, when in company i do drive it like i stole it. if i didnt who would you have to talk about and laught at?

I'd just like to point out that organising these runs is hellishly time consuming and there is an inevitable feeling of responsibility for those arranging it all.

Yes, thery're nearly always thoroughly enjoyable, however the time invested shouldn't be taken for granted (nor should the costs of producing maps and doing a route recce either) and it's appreciated. I organised a quick one day run for TRS a while back, and it can be quite stressful trying to juggle numbers, fuel stops, lunch stops etc etc, so a larger convoy is certainly no easier.

Grant and Imy - any runs organised are appreciated and fair play to you for the work put in to themface-icon-small-cool.gif

<< Don: Did you go to the GlaSGOW meet . What did you get m8... >>

Nah wasn't at the glasgow. Got a 95 turbo 2000, cos i'm still 20 had some problems with insurance... but stuck at them and managed to get it eventually face-icon-small-happy.gif

This next run is gonna be sweet! just like all the others face-icon-small-happy.gif All roots are good, its the driving in a convoy and the banter thats the best part. The road on that Pic looks mental Cal!

thanks to Grovit for pointing out the thought, organisation and stressed involved in doing these runs. Its not as simple as posting up a date and starting point and away we go.

Things we have to think about include distances between stops, cost in petrol for eveyone, car park facilities, toilets + shops, petrol stations, clarity of road signs, volume of traffic at road junctions and availability of safe passing points for overtaking.

Also road surface, fuel consumption, police presence and distance folk have to travel to the start/finish point comes into discussion, not to mention the recce, research + word processing time and printing costs involved in producing 40+ maps.

The TRS run you did was fun.

That was organised into groups of 4-5 cars and, although I can see the logic in splitting up the group, I feel you lose the sense of being in a convoy. The group we were in were fab, its just that we didnt really see anyone else after we set off.

We prefer to keep the convoy together for our runs cos there is no better sight (IMO anyway) than seeing a row of scoobies in front and behind you winding down the valleys/hills. There are obviously disadvantages in this format but it has been (more or less) successful so far for the past 4 outings.

anyway route is almost there and details will be posted as soon as.

we are looking at the last weekend in August for this to take place

edit to say the only thing you cannot plan is the weather face-icon-small-wink.gif
