drb5 Posted June 29, 2005 Posted June 29, 2005 I've heard that there used to be a train, which went from Edinburgh, to down south, but i can't find anything to suggest it still does this. Can anyone tell me if this is right or not?
dougster Posted June 29, 2005 Posted June 29, 2005 Dave, get me on MSN or gimme a bell if you need something shifted. I may know someone who could help.
st3ph3n Posted June 29, 2005 Posted June 29, 2005 drb5, I used to get the train from Uphall station on the bathgate line, and there would occasionally be a massive train carrying cars went past there to a big dumping ground for cars just outside Bathgate. It was always full of new Citroens and Pugs. I couldn't tell you for the life of me who ran it, but if you get off the M8 at 3A, find your way to the big roundabout on the bathgate side of the motorway and take the A7066 west bound as if you were heading for where motorola used to be. I think it's near there.
dougster Posted June 29, 2005 Posted June 29, 2005 There is a massive complex at Mossend (Eurocentral) that delivers brand new vehicles to Ford via rail. Been there once or twice. I have been to the other one mentioned as well but again new vehicles.
wrxmania Posted June 29, 2005 Posted June 29, 2005 Yes - seen it this morning from the M8. Also it goes past my work in Newington too
drb5 Posted June 29, 2005 Author Posted June 29, 2005 I'm wanting to take the Scoob down to Dover without actually having to drive it, considering the mileage i have to do after....to get to the Ring!
st3ph3n Posted June 29, 2005 Posted June 29, 2005 I'm considering a ring trip myself. Looking less likely to be this year and more like a well planned full week jaunt round europe next year with a few others in Convoy.
Johnny50 Posted June 29, 2005 Posted June 29, 2005 Does the Ferry from Rosyth go anywhere in the right direction to get near the ring Dave ?
dougster Posted June 29, 2005 Posted June 29, 2005 That's the way I'd go via Rosyth. 18hours to Zeebrugge then approx 220 miles to Nurburg. Boat that carries cars.....!!
drb5 Posted June 29, 2005 Author Posted June 29, 2005 Looking at ferries now, as there ain't no train's that do it. Already got the Chunnel booked, so a ferry D/S will be my next option.
drb5 Posted June 29, 2005 Author Posted June 29, 2005 12th August, leave on the 15th. Never thought i could get so excited about such a long drive! Change yer avatar! You can't kid yerself on anymore bud!
st3ph3n Posted June 29, 2005 Posted June 29, 2005 Dave, have you logged enough Virtual Laps on Project Gotham 2, Forza Motorsport or Gran Turismo 4 to consider yourself well versed in the meandering ways of the North Loop?
Johnny50 Posted June 29, 2005 Posted June 29, 2005 << Change yer avatar! You can't kid yerself on anymore bud! >> lol.. I would, but it fails everytime i try !!
iroc-si Posted June 29, 2005 Posted June 29, 2005 Its been a long time since Motorail ceased to opperate from edinburgh. I'm thinking something like 20+ years ago! Guess not enough people used it. Si.
Johnny50 Posted June 29, 2005 Posted June 29, 2005 << You could change the colour Johnny!!!! >> Hmmm....would it look good in white.
dave_morgan Posted June 29, 2005 Posted June 29, 2005 ... back on topic.... Rosyth - Zeebruge would def be the way to go Dave. Worth checking out prices, as it'll save you a fair whack in petrol costs as well as the mileage/hassle. Nice boat too Dave
Johnny50 Posted June 29, 2005 Posted June 29, 2005 Last time i checked, the prices were great, as long as you're not fussy on gettting a cabin... Thats when the prices start to rise.
drb5 Posted June 29, 2005 Author Posted June 29, 2005 Cheers Dave, but like i said, Chunnel's all booked now. Maybe next time. As for if i'm good enough for the Ring, i'll never know till i do it, just like everyone else who is yet to experience it.
