Muchos apologies from the Gumballer - seems due to his post spamming he has been banned from further posts / replies...!!!face-icon-small-shocked.gifface-icon-small-confused.gif

He didnt see anything wrong with replying to all the threads, is that against SIDC rules?

Surely he can be let back in mr moderator face-icon-small-wink.gifface-icon-small-tongue.gif

There's nothing wrong with replying to every thread, but we would prefer that people replying to threads actually add some value to them.

Once we get the new server/software in place, we'll be able to have sub-sections where "off-topic" stuff can be discussed, without it cluttering up the main forum.

Not to test the limits, but surely off-topic has its place as well as it provides a light hearted avenue on these forums. As you say John UNTIL we get a off-topic area. Surely we can continue as usual.

Thats unless Chris was using tut tut words face-icon-small-tongue.gif

I wouldn't say the forums is cluttered either, only a few threads at least in the Scottish area of the forums. This place needs these as it shows we have a good social grouping.

Also I thought these forums weren't monitored or modded that much?

Seems a bit far, unless im not seeing the whole picture.

Pete,

of course we don't mind the occasional off-topic thread, this place would be too dull without it face-icon-small-happy.gif

However, too many of these turn people off, as they find it difficult to find any threads that interest them (e.g. events, technical info, for sale stuff etc). The same goes for turning "sensible" threads into light hearted ones by taking them off topic with a "bit of banter".

What one person finds "light hearted banter", others will find "annoying, pointless drivel", especially "in-jokes/comments" that only a few people in a small group are party to/understand. These sort of comments can stop people from going to events, as they are unsure/wary about the sort of people they'll be meeting. It can also stop people from posting on the forum, as they don't want adverse comments made when they post etc.

There are quite a few moderators on this forum (all committee members for example) and we do try to keep a good natured, balanced structure to the forum. It is true that we don't do too much moderation, as it hasn't been required to date, and we would be very disappointed if we needed to do much in the future.

Very rarely, people do push things a little bit too far for comfort, and we have to tidy up a bit.

Dont get me wrong John, I know that all forums require some sort of supervision.

Would a warning not been advisable first?

I just disagree with locking his account, I did look at the image. But without knowning the content of the posts, all can see is Chris wanting to post on these threads. I really cant see anything wrong with that as I have done this from time to time.

I'm sorry if it seem like im annoying, but I want to promote this club to friends and work colleagues.

Also I can understand what you mean on the thread content that are posted....

But I dont have a interest in all threads on here, I dont have a problem with others having threads that I dont want to view. Its simple really, I dont read them and go onto another thread.

I would say it just takes a bit of self control read or select the content from these forums as everyone gets a bit out of these for themselves.

I think at the end of the day its all about tolerance for each other. face-icon-small-smile.gif

I kinda agree with John on this one face-icon-small-smile.gif

i admit to posting O/T stuff sometimes, a bit of light-hearted banter does everyone some good.

But i had a quick log on late last night, and saw exactly what the pic John posted up showed, the same person replying to EVERY thread. Had a quick look at 1st few, and they were just a face-icon-small-smile.gif reply etc, got bored and never bothered with the rest and logged off again.

It could be quite possible that you have something to say on quite a few threads, but every-single-one is just taking the p~ss!

I kinda agree aswell, a sub section for private jokes, ect would be a good idea, rather than clutter up the main forum with nonsence,

Im all for a bit of light hearted banterface-icon-small-wink.gif

FFS, if this is the only thing in the world that bugs everyone then you all must have a good life.

This is a club, it isnt real, its not a law of the world by which we all live in.

Come on lets have a reality check.

The G-man replies to a lot of posts then anarchy breaks out.

Is this the next thing on the havoc of Scottish Scoobies forums?

Guys, please refer to John's comment's posted earlier.

As MS S6CUB pointed out in the initial post, 'Gumballer' had his account temporarily suspended 'due to his post spamming'.

Grasshopper, to answer your question: 'who decides what is for what forum?'.

Answer: The administrators of the SIDC.

As for the CAPS LOCK issue, feel free to use them if you want. I only initially pointed out basic internet forum etiquette, which also frowns on the aforementioned 'spamming'.

All this goes along with points raised at an SIDC meeting with members asking for more moderation on the forums.
