Jazmac Posted May 29, 2005 Posted May 29, 2005 I am new to this site looking for HELP !!! I have a 98 Impreza 2000, i have had to replace the turbo but i am still getting sever problems with stuttering thru out the rev range, i tried sticking in a new set of platinum plugs and had to revert back to the old ones. Can enyone else sugest anything else as i am at my witts end with the wee chav racers in there corsa smoking my ass.
jasonb Posted May 29, 2005 Posted May 29, 2005 you may have a boost leak, it happend to my friend and it was the hard plastic pipe under the intercooler, i may be wrong but its worth a check
wilky Posted May 29, 2005 Posted May 29, 2005 It could be any number of things, Lambda sensor on its way out, as drb said ignition leads, fuel pump on its way out which a friend of mine had on a 98 car, or the MAF sensor. Process of elimination, good luck! Callum
dougster Posted May 29, 2005 Posted May 29, 2005 Just what I told you on the phone if your Madmonk's friend.
paddy247 Posted May 29, 2005 Posted May 29, 2005 Take it to a speach therapist about t t t t th th that stutter, only joking, Have you had a diagnostic carried out at a garage with the select moniter. And welcome to the mad house
craigdmcd Posted May 30, 2005 Posted May 30, 2005 Can you be more specific about the problem, when it appears worst, (ie under load, when the car is warm, certain part of the rev range). You can quite simply check for engine faults with CEL, but this will not indicate faults with fuel pumps, air mass sensors, spark plugs etc.
lessels Posted May 30, 2005 Posted May 30, 2005 i had the same problem mate, mines was stuttering when u booted it but was ok when when u slowly accelerated, turned out to be ht leads
Jazmac Posted May 30, 2005 Author Posted May 30, 2005 yeah its fine when driving slow but as soon as i hit the fast pedal it all goes wrong, i have tried pulling the plug on the maf sensor when the engine ir running and the car stalls whicj im told should happen. I do think my self its the lambada and the fuel pump as it has been happening for a while put now its just so bad i cant put up with it anymore. i am going to get a friend at his garage to do a diagnostics check after the break if he will be soi kind. Oh and i am madmonks friend for all my sins.
jasonb Posted May 30, 2005 Posted May 30, 2005 check the pressure pipe going to the fuel pressure regulator is not split
drb5 Posted May 30, 2005 Posted May 30, 2005 Get an AFR and a boost gauge fitted and that'll help determine the problem.
Jazmac Posted May 30, 2005 Author Posted May 30, 2005 i have a turbo boost gauge fitted, that side seems to be fine. i have ordered new denso platinum sparkies and going to get new HT leads and start from there. going to take a meter reading from the coil to see if there is a fault as in lead to belive the coils on imprezas send to pulses at the same time to two diff plugs, so there has to be a suitable voltage to carry this out sucsesfully.
RossRB5 Posted May 31, 2005 Posted May 31, 2005 By the sounds of things this is very similar to the symptoms my MY99 RB5 was having recently. Unfortunately I got new HT leads, new MAF and new lambda all at once - which cured the problem - but I'm not sure which was at fault originally, maybe a bit of a combination. Before this I changed the plugs, which helped a bit, but it still had a bit of a misfire, so I'd suggest that the HT leads are at fault, change them first and see how you get on. Ross
sKunk Posted May 31, 2005 Posted May 31, 2005 Where are you located. Cant you drop the car into AWD or Extreme or something for a check up?
Jazmac Posted June 1, 2005 Author Posted June 1, 2005 i had it down for a diagnostics at a mates garage in dumbarton, no fault codes what so ever were logged on the onboard com. However what he feel what was wrong was a sticky valve in one of the cylinders, after he took a suction test from the small air pipe from the manifold infront of the turbu unit. the instrument needle confirmed his thoughts as it jumped about and was not stable, so he sucked some forte injector cleaner straight into the pipe and the rest in the tank, and told me to rip the arse out the motor to try and free the valve, and to conduct a pressure test on the valves when i got home, which i done, Valves 1,3,4 were reading approx 160psi and 2 was less than 55psi, so there is my problem, i just hope a couple of days driving will free the valve, if not its a strip down job for me. Does any one have a link or diagrams for removing the cylinder heads, as ur prop aware there are no manuals about to buy???
imprezapete Posted June 1, 2005 Posted June 1, 2005 Ouch, sounds like you've been unlucky with that one I hope its not a strip down...... But it would be a good time for some internal engine mods
