A little help please...

I bought a set of Arospeed RSGT's a while back.

They suffered from surface corrosion, but the supplier refused to replace then for me, and now out of warranty.

I've no longer got my scoob, so what should i do ?

Get the refurbed, and sell them ? (bearing in mind refurb costs)

Or let them go for a cheap price as they stand ?

Any suggestions welcome.

Thanks

either or mate... if it was me then i would just sell 'em as they are. if someone wants to buy them they can get 'em cleaned up !!!face-icon-small-wink.gif

I'd clean them up best I could and try and sell them as is. If no luck after a few weeks, rethink and check out refurb costs.

I refurbed a set of Alleycats myself once and it wasn't that bad a job. Just flaked off all the lacquer, rubbed down with fine wet'n'dry and sprayed over with wheel lacquer. None of the painted surfaces were marked, so it was just the bear alloy I needed to work on. They came up better than new IMHO !! All depends how much time you've got spare and if you can be ar5ed !!

I would think they'd sell pretty easily as they are though to be honest - give it a bash and see !

You could always p/x them against a Skyline ??!!?? face-icon-small-wink.gif

had a set of Citroen AX GT wheels a while back, i got that Nitromorse stuff to burn all the old paint and laquer off, then used Autosol with a buff attached to my cordless drill - couple of hours on each wheel and they came up lovely.

As Dave says... depends how much time you've got... but i reckon once you've got the autosol etc bought, you should have all 4 done in a day no probs.

Cheers lads...

To be honest, the whole wheel doesn't need done. The centres are fine, it's just the polished outer rim thats corroded.

And by the way...they look like they're all scuffed, but they aint...thats corrosion aswell. face-icon-small-sad.gif

Ill go with oobsters suggestion, I did this to a set of wheels on a dolomite sprint I was running a few years back, didnt want to pay to get them coated, I was going to paint them with spraypaint from halfords, but once I had them stripped and polished they looked so good I just painted in the panels, and left then polished. Its worth it.

i would clean these up myself m8. a bit of fine wet and dry on the unpainted surface, a spot of clear laquer and bob's your uncle. (mind mask off the painted areas)

To me Lindsay those wheels really need to be shot blasted to remove that corrosion properly. I'd send the supplier an email suggesting you will name and shame if they don't offer some sort of compensation. If they don't respond i'd sell them cheap, name and shame and let the new owner have them refurbished.

Ive recently repolished my Bk299 wheels with the same problem m8. Strip the laquer as oobster said polish with some Metal polish , wax them and sell them as minted. Job done 3hrs max for lots more cash.face-icon-small-wink.gif

Not meaning to p**s on your parade but I heard recently that the manufacuters of these wheels were supplying them to their dealers with a memo stating that these "polished rim" style of wheels were not covered under their warranty, in terms of corrosion, if they were sold in the UK.

Seems that the BA***RDS have covered their own a**e.

I'd still try a letter to the dealer as nothing ventured, nothing gained!

Carl. Russell.

Not wishing to name/shame at the moment, trading standards were on the case, but as you said Russell, they've covered their own back.

At first the company were willing to swap them/refund, until they noticed that one of the wheels had a slight scuff on the outer rim...game over. face-icon-small-sad.gif

This happened long after the corrosion, and seeing as i wasn't the only person to have this problem, this scuff obviously didn't cause the corrosion.

I even have an email from the supplier stating it was a faulty batch....but still no luck. face-icon-small-sad.gif

Have been away from the scene for a while, since the death of the 22B. Dont think we've seen the last of it though..

Hey Chris,

Great to hear from you.

Driving a Civic at the moment, not the most exciting car, but it`s a laugh at times.

Hope you`re doing well ?
