~ ~ Cal ~~ Posted May 4, 2005 Posted May 4, 2005 I'm thinking of investing in these after trying them out at KH Anyone got one ? http://www.cg-lock.com/
johns Posted May 4, 2005 Posted May 4, 2005 I've still got two to give away in a competition in the next issue of True Grip. We'll hopefully have them at a discounted price in the club shop soon as well. John
IanJ Posted May 4, 2005 Posted May 4, 2005 John, How do these really compare to harnesses? Are they simple to swap between cars? Ian
johns Posted May 4, 2005 Posted May 4, 2005 Ian, they aren't as good as full harnesses for keeping your upper body in place. However, they do have an advantage over harnesses in that they don't take up any space in the rear of the car, take 5 minutes to fit/swap to another car and if you use it on the road, it means you can still use reach most things in the without having to undo the harnesses (e.g. pay in a car park, collect a drive-through meal etc). I found it was good for holding your lower body in place, meaning you needed to expend less energy keeping your body in place during cornering and especially under braking. You don't notice much difference for the first few laps, but I found that after a longer session, I was less tired. Like a lot of these things, you notice it more after you have taken the device off and go back on track for a session. It's not a huge night/day difference, just more of a subtle help. John
dave_morgan Posted May 4, 2005 Posted May 4, 2005 I tried one at the last track day and was impressed. Very easy to change (once you find the allen key !! ) and holds you well into the seat. It basically holds the waist part of the belt tight round you so you don't slide around, but your upper body is still free to move around (unlike a harness) as the diagonal strap operates as normal. Safety wise probably no better than a normal seat belt, but it does stick you to your seat well. You don't feel as restricted as you do with a harness which is a plus or a minus depending on why you're buying it I guess! If you find yourself sliding around in your seat a lot on track days (or any days), it's definitely worth considering. Dave
pmacFTO Posted May 4, 2005 Posted May 4, 2005 might try one of these - the FTO has a groove in the top of the seat to put your seatbelt in and it holds you in a lot tighter - th CG Lock would be good for holding the lower half of the body in and would complement it - harnesses are great but not practical if you use your back seats (i.e. for my 8mth old daughter!)
dave_morgan Posted May 4, 2005 Posted May 4, 2005 << harnesses are great but not practical if you use your back seats (i.e. for my 8mth old daughter!) >> What's wrong with the boot !!??!!
wrxmania Posted May 4, 2005 Posted May 4, 2005 I think this sounds good for road use - would be helpful for those under 30 stone I will enter the True Grip competition when it appears Brian
st3ph3n Posted October 17, 2005 Posted October 17, 2005 Did you end up getting one Cal? My left leg was bruised at the last track day. Thems the prices you have to pay though.
~ ~ Cal ~~ Posted October 17, 2005 Author Posted October 17, 2005 Not yet but I really ought to be buying two sharpish !
johns Posted October 17, 2005 Posted October 17, 2005 There's two up for grabs in the competition at the insude back page of True Grip! Get your entries in quick!! John
wrxmania Posted October 17, 2005 Posted October 17, 2005 My entry is in - make the decision now ... "I've won!!" Yippee!! Well, maybe I'll just have to buy one. Brian
simon_arnott Posted October 18, 2005 Posted October 18, 2005 Cal, if you're at KH on Saturday and you haven't bought one yet, give me a shout and I can give you a shot of mine. I can second John on them being easy to fit, after all, I fitted his and I find it does help hold me in place. It's obviously not going to be as good as a harness but it's a lot less hassle and expense. Cheers Si.
~ ~ Cal ~~ Posted October 18, 2005 Author Posted October 18, 2005 Thanks Si I have treid them before but just need to take the plunge and buy em' ( or wein em' hopefully ) Cheers Cal
colin_ross Posted October 18, 2005 Posted October 18, 2005 So do the newages not have seatbelt pre-tensioners? Might be a bit messy in the event of an off.
