TypeRA28 Posted April 20, 2005 Posted April 20, 2005 Did anyone else read this about car stereotypes! I would hardly say all Impreza drivers are "boy racers" who should be given a wide berth. Love to know what the writer drives. Let me know what the rest of you think. Am trying to think of a decent response, and would be great if a few others responded as well. Cheers.
the squiggle Posted April 20, 2005 Posted April 20, 2005 Unfortunately with the price of 2nd hand Scoobs down to the floor, it is making the once iconic car now more and more accessable to the Chav brigade. The group 18-20 insurance that used to pose a problem now is becoming redundent as with the quantity of pharmaceuticals these boys {or thier parents} sell, the insurance payments aint much of a problem. This leaves us enthusiasts of the marque the responsibility of keeping our good name intact. Though i do agree with the comments about the BMW owners. Grant
fraser_drinkwater Posted April 20, 2005 Posted April 20, 2005 Not sure about the BMW bit as I own one as well and im a really nice approachable guy and takes 20 mins too do a 10 min journey.
TypeRA28 Posted April 20, 2005 Author Posted April 20, 2005 I agree. I had 2 BMW's before the scoob, and wouldn't think of myself as arrogant. And my old man drives a Saab, and he doesn't have a beard! I just get fed up with people tarring everyone with the same brush.
Carl Davey Posted April 20, 2005 Posted April 20, 2005 Sounds like a typical small-minded article from the small-minded capital of the UK. I could very easily slip into the stereotype of the 'average' Scooby driver, being as i'm quite young. I do my best not to though, i just remember i've been driving mine for 2.5 years now without a Lexus lamp, flamer kit or dump valve in sight. My mother drives a BMW and she about as far removed from arrogant as possible. Dad drives a Lotus however, did they say anything about mid-life crises? Carl CHAV IDOL
karps Posted April 20, 2005 Posted April 20, 2005 woo hoo im a BOY racer. Does that mean im young again?
Iaing Posted April 20, 2005 Posted April 20, 2005 What exactly did the article say? Could someone scan it in and post it up? Iain
Iaing Posted April 20, 2005 Posted April 20, 2005 Doh, just noticed its already been posted, ignore my previous post.
Iaing Posted April 20, 2005 Posted April 20, 2005 Tongue in cheek article I think. There are as many boy racers in m3's, x5's, evo's and tt's in aberdeen as there are impreza's. I bet she falls into the catagory of dottery old woman, with many cats, who drives the wrong way up one way streets in her red nissan micra. Iain
micra_wrc Posted April 20, 2005 Posted April 20, 2005 << I bet she falls into the catagory of dottery old woman, with many cats, who drives the wrong way up one way streets in her red nissan micra. Iain >> oi......... its not just dottery old women that drive red nissan micras Imy lol
spooks Posted April 20, 2005 Posted April 20, 2005 I work in the motor trade and see drivers every day some of them are really surprising, then again I see a lot that enforce the stereotype. Alls I can say is that when I work I must be arrogant then boy racer on the way home. I must have a secret yearning for a beard as I have long been a SAAB fan.................................. I dont know why Total rubbish, never listen to any of this small minded and jelous type of , and I use this word loosely, reporting. Be yourself and have have fun, be boring if we were all the same ........................Ya bunch o Boy racers Spooks
MS S6CUB Posted April 20, 2005 Posted April 20, 2005 What alot of crap, while driving my car I find men in BMWs very willing to make 'concessions'!! And being a BMW driver myself - I don't think I'm arrogant Let them think the Scooby owners are boy racers and "give us a wide berth" - means we can go faster, be louder and annoy the hell out them even more And note to Imy - you're no dottery old woman babe
Stiks Posted April 20, 2005 Posted April 20, 2005 I used to have a beemer but that was in my arrogant pre pubescent phase. When I get old enough to shave and grow a beard I'll get one of the viggen, or aero hot things . The boy formerly known as Stiks ( AKA old fart)
dave_morgan Posted April 20, 2005 Posted April 20, 2005 I agree with every word of the article.. couldn't have written it better myself p.s. If you feel you've grown out of your boy racer phase, Click here
st3ph3n Posted April 20, 2005 Posted April 20, 2005 I have to say that as someone who covers a decent amount a day - 65 miles - on some of Scotland's major arteries - M73, A80, M876 - and who spent nigh on 2 years travelling the m8 back and forward between Glasgow and Edinburgh, then I'd like to think I've built up a decent understanding of the mentallity of what drivers are likely to do. But I've not! I've passed many a "boy racer" who's been gently plodding along a motorway at 65mph minding their own. I've also been tailgated, undertaken when there was no room, and even witnessed someone having to use the hard shoulder coming out of Edinburgh such was their impatience, all by people who drive faceless cars and don't fit into any of these stereotypes. I bet this woman drives a Citroen Xsara Picasso or a Megane Scenic, with her 2.4 kids and her 1.3 dogs and 0.7 cats. She'll also use completely the wrong lane at roundabouts, then never signal when she decides to try and rectify the situation at the last moment. Endangering her kids, her dogs and cats and my life as well. Or maybe I'm just throwing about wild stereotypes too.
Guest Posted April 20, 2005 Posted April 20, 2005 it just some older people have stupid attitudes my old man infact thinks anybody with a set of alloys is a chav what a muppet doesn't have a clue and his stupid attitude is exactly the reason i left home!! il admit some imprezas are chaved up but when i buy one shortly i will not be fitting lexus lights but will be fitting a dump valve!! im sorry just love the noise to much!!
TypeRA28 Posted April 21, 2005 Author Posted April 21, 2005 Next time there is a SIDC outing, maybe a drive through the lovely village of Skene, where the writer comes from is in order. I am sure the sight of at least 50 Impreza's growling through would soon change her views!!
Iaing Posted April 21, 2005 Posted April 21, 2005 Has anyone written a responce to her letter yet? Iain
TypeRA28 Posted April 22, 2005 Author Posted April 22, 2005 Not yet, I've been trying to think up a witty response, but so far have come up with nothing.
