Has anyone seen traffic cars in Strathclyde with a wee white cylinder on their roofs, about 4-6" in Diameter and about the same deep ? Anyone know what they are I've seen three now.

I think its their wee camera/speedgun where they can tell the speed of a vehicle without having to get out the car. Although I'm not 100% sure m8

It will be their new digital communications antennae. Eventually you will see most of the cars being fitted with it but basically it replaces the 5 antennaes they have currently

one of the traffic cops was in at my work a couple of weeks ago(was dropped off in the police car to pick up her own car from service dept), and a couple of the blokes at work were discussing what it was, so I asked and was told it is a speed cameraface-icon-small-sad.gif

Defo a speed camera. They regularly spot outside my house and catch the loonies coming into the village. Or is that the loonies tryin to get out the village. face-icon-small-happy.gif

I always slow down as I approach your bit John.... and cruise down the hill .....gun it at the end of the 30 though face-icon-small-smile.gifface-icon-small-smile.gif

Seems to be a few opinions, don't think it can be a 'gps locator' as GPS devices are purely receivers. Nor are GPS devices, whatever their purpose illegal. If it is some kind of speed detection technology, then it must be new as the thing is very wee compaired to anything else around. I've searched UK speedtraps and others and find no mention of anything like this.

Willie, are you speaking from knowledge or guessing ? This seems more plausable to me.

I've got a GPS receiver that tracks 16 satellites, has bluetooth to communite with my phone, and works quite happily whilst its sitting on my passenger seat without a direct view, and it's no biger than my mobile phone. So I'd be surpried if it was that. Although the fuzz are a bit backwards.

If it's not a radar/speed detecter/camera then it's probably the arial for the digital radio. Or maybe a telly one so they can watch lunchtime neighbours in a layby.

RE John's bit,

Nothing better than rumbling down the hill (bub bub bubbing) at 29 MPH then driving really slowly in the national speed limit, accelerating as slowly as possible up to 60 - they wait with the gun hoping for the best - but no luck face-icon-small-wink.gif

In the good old days ( when wee neds got a clip round the ear) they could read the number plates themselves .
