Thomohawk Posted April 8, 2005 Posted April 8, 2005 Alright chaps, Just a quickie re the above. I put my motor in the Autotrader lastweek and on a daily basis I'm receiving 2 or 3 calls from agencies saying that they've had interest in my car, give us 80 quid and we'll forward your details onto the interested party. In addiotion to that they've been waffling on about how they will provide the buyer with finance so I'm quaranteed to get my asking price etc etc etc.... So far I've told them I'm not interested, but suddenly wondered if I should perhaps hear them out. So my questions to you are, has anyone got any experience of these people, and are they gen-up, or is it just a way of them making a quick buck? Cheers in advance. Thomo.
colin_ross Posted April 8, 2005 Posted April 8, 2005 Don't give them the time of day mate. If they have someone interseted in your car why would that person not just look in the autotrader? If you pay the £80 you'll never hear from them again. Better to knock the money of your asking pice to make it more attractive but I'd just stick it out for a while.
Johnny50 Posted April 8, 2005 Posted April 8, 2005 Aye Thomo....Ignore them completely matey, they're a right pain. As Playsatan says....if they were interested, they'd contact you through the Autotrader.
st3ph3n Posted April 8, 2005 Posted April 8, 2005 Next time put "no agencies". When I tried to sell my Vectra last year I got loads of calls. One guy in particular was very persistant. I did a quick google for his company's name, and SCAM was what instantly sprung up.
peter_macgowan Posted April 8, 2005 Posted April 8, 2005 Tell them where to go I had a saxo years ago and the told me they had a several people interested, Car Data or something like that it was on the back for the ESSO petrol receipts. I never got one phone call. Total waste of money and time.
ormiboy Posted April 8, 2005 Posted April 8, 2005 agree with above, i had the same lot as spince, "car data" on at me a few years back. took at bit of swearing to get them to stop calling. bodyswerve time.
Thomohawk Posted April 8, 2005 Author Posted April 8, 2005 Cheers guys, Will be ready for the next one that calls!! Thomo.
dave_morgan Posted April 8, 2005 Posted April 8, 2005 << Buying and Selling Advice >> Simple .... Sell Subaru (www.autotrader.co.uk) Buy Skyline (www.subaru.me.uk/gtr)
dave_morgan Posted April 8, 2005 Posted April 8, 2005 I had the same problems with agencies with a few of my cars. My stock answer was - "I'll give you personally (to the salesperson) twice what you're asking for, if you sell my car." If their service was any good, they'd take your hand off !
clan2_uk Posted April 8, 2005 Posted April 8, 2005 Several years ago I was selling my 1972 Clan Crusader which had a race engine and gearbox fitted, for any one who hasn't heard of Clan's they were a Hillman Imp based sports car and only several hundred were built/sold. These cars are always quite slow to sell as there is only a small amount of people who have actually heard of these cars and an even smaller amount of people looking to buy them, 99% of the time they are sold through the owners club. You've guessed it, the phone goes one night the agency guy is trying to tell me that they have several people in my area looking to buy a stutter stutter Clan Crusader ?? he was obviously just reading out my advert and had no idea what a Clan was and couldn't possibly have had anyone on his so called books looking for one. A definite SCAM !
Thomohawk Posted April 8, 2005 Author Posted April 8, 2005 << Sell Subaru (www.autotrader.co.uk) Buy Skyline (www.subaru.me.uk/gtr) >> If only mate!! I thought you'd managed to shift it.....? Got my answer ready for the next agency caller and it consists of 2 words one begining with F and the other with O!! Cheers to everyone for confirming what I already suspected. Thomo.
