johnnyr6 Posted October 25, 2004 Posted October 25, 2004 i had a great day, good weather and glad to get the car out on track at last. Seemed to be a well organised day with no delays although it was very busy.
DonZ Posted October 25, 2004 Posted October 25, 2004 Excellent day, thanks to the organisers for letting us non scooby outsiders sign up. All in all I think the driving standards and courtesy were excellent. Just had the one off coming out of Clarks. Trying too hard to stay infront of Kartman. No damage just some dented pride and grass stains. Would love a pax lap in that P1 the next time. Left Airdrie with full tank of fuel, had loads of time on track, back to Airdrie, into Edinburgh and back home today. Just under a quarter of a tank still left.
~ ~ Cal ~~ Posted October 25, 2004 Posted October 25, 2004 Guys, Vid Clips below in this parent folder ( download the 4 clips from the 24th October) KLEENEX MARKETING CAMPAIGN John's Evo clip is rather amusing due to the crowd appreciation The Skyline is the best sounding motor EVER ! And the Ultima has 5ft flames licking out of it's pipes after it's hairpin spin. 350z footage in there too Enjoy Cal ps more to follow if i find time tommorow
kennyi Posted October 25, 2004 Posted October 25, 2004 << what lotus club was at the meeting? >> Scottish elises They dont have a forum but you can post on the Yahoo group
dave_morgan Posted October 25, 2004 Posted October 25, 2004 Absolutely superb day!!!! Had quite a few track days before, but enjoyed Saturday the most by a long shot. Most of that I can put down to AP 6 pots - they're awesome !!! No fade whatsover, and only a slight spongy feel after a LOT of laps. Still stopped fine though, just not as firm a feel as when cold. Down to the fluid more than the brakes I guess. I've never been able to stay out for more than 8 or maybe 10 laps before, but I was out for a full 30 mins at the end, and all was still well !! (except for the tyres going off slightly). Big thanks to all the cars who span in front of me too - the entertainment value was great. Always a little sphincter twitching when it happens, as you don't know which way the spinning car is going to go, but no harm done in any of them, so big smiles all round. I think there was a couple of elises, a scoob wagon, a 350z and a lotus 7 type car!! Apologies if I was the cause of you pushing that bit too much !! Congrats to Evo John for hanging onto his car through a few twitchy moments too - not sure if I'd be keeping that geometry setting mate !!! Only negative parts of the whole day was me getting there late due to Bridge traffic (a car broke down ON the bridge right in front of me), and fuel surge at the hair pin !! I should know better and should have taken a couple of gerry cans, but once I got to half a talk, virtually every lap I got fuel starvation as I accelerated out. VERY frustrating when you're lining up to overtake on the straight!!!! Apologies to anyone who pulled over to let me pass to find I wasn't on your tail anymore !! That's why ! Nice to meet...... : Don (350Z) - Nice driving until.... you know what - Welcome to a pax lap anytime mate ! Miss Scooby STI - Also very nice driving. Especially enjoyed going side by side round clark !! ... You should be racing girl !! Gavin (integra type R) - BUY THE STI - YOU KNOW YOU WANT TO !!!!!! . Call Forbes at the stable bar, tell him Dave sent you and offer him £10,500. You will NOT regret it ! -Stable Bar : 0131 664 0773. If he's not there get in touch and I'll dig out his mobile number. Dougie549 - thanks for the pics - nice camera work To answer the previous threads, the car is bog standard, except for the AP's. It's even got the cats and paper filter in it!! In fact even the tyres are the original supplied ones !! They are kinda semi slicks mind you !!!! My list of mods is quite impressive, but they're all still sitting in the garage !! Full scoobysport system, sti panel filter (was fitted, but took it out for the recent service), defis, sti rear lights, intercooller splitter and 19's. I should just take a couple of days off work and fit them all I know, but other things always seem to need done! Anyway, I've waffled enough and can't put off work any longer!!! One question though - can anyone work out where this pic was taken from - I can't work it out at all !!! : http://chris-ross.fotopic.net/p8534534.html [edit to change Miss Scooby STI's name - apologies for getting that one wrong my friend ]
dave_morgan Posted October 25, 2004 Posted October 25, 2004 Ignore the question about the pic - I've worked it out. It's after the hairpin. The bit of unused track down to the right confused me !!
p3dro Posted October 25, 2004 Posted October 25, 2004 Erm I was the wagon who span off in front of you I think, was it green. i was tailing a blue elise for several corners and he took the wrong line, I either followed or took him out the game completely and with no insurance I span off. fantastic day out, met some great folk and the car still goes. Result Thanks to all who organised especially JohnS and anyone who said Hi. Pedro
sKunk Posted October 25, 2004 Posted October 25, 2004 Casualties so far seem to be my brakes, my tyres, dads brakes and p3dros pants
evojkp Posted October 25, 2004 Author Posted October 25, 2004 Dave, really enjoyed the wee tussle we had, although that helmet is a little bit intimidating whenyou see it coming behind you (note to self: Iridium visor before next trackday ) I've found out why my car was handling like a bucket of poo, and it's all down to the geo set-up being waaayyy out. It was set up for 18" rims with the toe more agressive at the front and softened at the back. Although I learnt a lot about carhandling and control from it I think. Also you could see the 6 pots were working well. When you past me the braking into Duffus was visibly better by a mile. Looking forward to the next one.....
dave_morgan Posted October 25, 2004 Posted October 25, 2004 << Erm I was the wagon who span off in front of you I think, was it green. >> I did suspect it had something to do with the elise that was having the grassy excursion !!! << Also you could see the 6 pots were working well. When you past me the braking into Duffus was visibly better by a mile >> They are amazing. Even braking where I was, was still a lot earlier than I needed to. I was always trying them early - just in case, as I couldnt believe they were holding up so well. I always dabbed, came up, and then planted again a little later. Best track mod you can buy IMHO. I think I forgot to say earlier. Huge thanks to John and SIDC for a perfectly organised and run event. Dave
dave_morgan Posted October 25, 2004 Posted October 25, 2004 p.s. Does anyone else get sore knees ??? My left knee is aching from being jammed against the centre console for so long !!!!
sKunk Posted October 25, 2004 Posted October 25, 2004 Can't say I've suffered that but I did a good job of pushing my big toe on my right foot through it's toenail
P1_Paul Posted October 25, 2004 Posted October 25, 2004 Kart_Man, That explains a lot! It was quite obvious that you were able to brake much much later than most of the cars going into the hairpin. Still a 63 second lap is impressive with a standard engine!! I don't know how you managed it though, but coming out of the hairpin you managed to pull on a M3 EVO, one of the black EVO VIII's and that STi Type RA on the start finish straight. Do you have an ECU remap? I wouldn't mind a pax lap next time your on track, if you don't mind!? Thanks, Paul

~ ~ Cal ~~ Posted October 25, 2004 Posted October 25, 2004 Absolutely baffled as to why Evo JKP hasn't got all excited about his flames ?? Get viewing that clip bee-atch Cal
evojkp Posted October 25, 2004 Author Posted October 25, 2004 I am mate. I also was shown a video of it flaming going down duffus as well. Kinda explains how I went through £95 of Optimax in 5 hours, as I was chucking it all out the bloody exhaust
dave_morgan Posted October 25, 2004 Posted October 25, 2004 Yeah, and now I know why my bumper's all blistered !!!! You owe me 2 smirnoff ices a breezer and a baileys bomber !!!
evojkp Posted October 26, 2004 Author Posted October 26, 2004 Just wait until the new ecu with anti-lag. Wonder if I could roast some Caterham drivers??
Gee Wr1 Posted October 26, 2004 Posted October 26, 2004 Hi Another great day out one of the best this year, couldn't believe how lucky we were with the weather!!!! (Cheers John S for organizing it) Everyone seemed 2 have a good time Kartman nice 2 speak 2 u at the end, i was the passenger in the blk type R with Miss Scooby STI (not little miss wrx) & we enjoyed the run round the track with u. Had a quick look at the vid footage we took & the bit filming u in the wing mirror looks quite good bit shakey though. Once i get a chance 2 sort it out i'll send it 2 u. Top driving all afternoon J It's been said already BUT WOW that Skyline sounded mental Gee
DR Motosport Posted October 26, 2004 Posted October 26, 2004 Big thanks to JohnS for another well organised day - even got the weather right. Wasn't out on track as much this time. My mate Gavin was up with my old Impreza for his first track day, so I was instructor for the day. He still managed to scare the sh1t out of me. But not as much as the black EVO8 (not John's) who lost it right in front of me at Clarks. He was suprised I was gaining on him a couple of seconds per lap, and tried too hard. I went over to check all was ok, all he said was "that's a bit quick". Jap Import mate --- not a UK PPP I did get an e-mail from Knockhill today. Top Marques coming up on Sunday 28th November. 11am-3pm. David
johnnyr6 Posted October 26, 2004 Posted October 26, 2004 Kartman that P1 of yours was bloody quick, at one point i was turning into duffus and saw you coming down the straight, the next thing i knew you were superglued to the back of me car. The rate at which you caught up was unreal, i think i'll need to upgrade to fourpots now. Oh i was in a silver sti2 with white wheels.
