dooahhdoo Posted July 8, 2004 Posted July 8, 2004 Well, at last. An MHK has asked for a breakdown of the statistics the DOT quoted. Now all I need is for him to agree to petition the DOT on our behalf.
Cret Posted July 8, 2004 Posted July 8, 2004 << Well, at last. An MHK has asked for a breakdown of the statistics the DOT quoted. Now all I need is for him to agree to petition the DOT on our behalf. >> Dude - have you been in touch with any of the bike mags? If you haven't I'll be quite happy to contact them and tip them off/pass on the link for the site if you'd like? I think you'd get somewhat of an avalanche of votes from bikers who come here & don't want it to change!
Jimmy Mc Posted July 8, 2004 Author Posted July 8, 2004 More good news, the Police are now backing this... More sh*t from the DOT I particularly like this bit: << 'Most people obey limits,' he said. 'If you look at the DoT data it says the vast majority of motorists obey the limits. >> I'd love to know where they get their data from. Like on the mountain when they had the speed gun out, how many people slowed from 100+ to about 50 to go past? I nearly went into the back of some t*sser who slammed on like a space shuttle had ran out in front of him or something!! And in reaction to this bit: << 'In terms of causation factors for serious injury and fatal collisions speed is the predominant factor, whether that is excessive speed, excessive speed for the conditions or the driver's experience or misjudging a situation because you are going too fast.' >> deal with young driver training and vehicle restrictions (before I come under flak from young drivers I am not that old myself).
CustomScoobyIOM Posted July 8, 2004 Posted July 8, 2004 << 'Most people obey limits,' he said. 'If you look at the DoT data it says the vast majority of motorists obey the limits. >> So why have a speed limit arsewipe?! I suppose to do you they have to catch you first....
WRX IOM Posted July 9, 2004 Posted July 9, 2004 Getting in touch with the Bike mags would be a very good idea. You would be overwhelmed with the response!! I agree with cameras in towns for 30/40 limits but not a national limit. To reduce deaths on the road they need to stamp out bad drivers first!!! People who havnt got a clue when driving in bad conditions or who are unaware of situations on the road. The ammount of young 16/17 year olds racing on scooters, powerful bikes or there hothatches that daddy bought them!!! is unreal!! Why should every driver be punished for people who are careless on the roads. Even with a limit you will still have these people loose on the road who think they are invinceable!!! There is a time and a place for driving over 70/80 or high speeds and that is on open sections of road. Not built up areas like some idiots out there!! As for the Mot..... Good bye decat exhausts and hello to high garage bills for fixing anything that the Dot decide to pick at on your car!! I understand that some cars need to be tested, but i thought that the police were supposed to stop check the scrap heaps that are on the road. And goodbye tourism. What some people will do to kill off bikers, tourists and all motorsport fans coming to the island!! Hello to high tax once they realise they are losing revenue!!!!!
dooahhdoo Posted July 9, 2004 Posted July 9, 2004 Sorry m8, missed your post Yes, go ahead and email whoever you think. The more the merrier m8 Cheers Jim
andy_bray Posted July 9, 2004 Posted July 9, 2004 I think what happened last night with two men dead on the old Castletown road is going to add more fuel to DOTs fire.
Moist Beaver Posted July 10, 2004 Posted July 10, 2004 You're right Andi, but if they say " if there was a 60 mph limit, it wouldn't have happened " - wrong - as the clio WAS displaying R plates, so he shouldn't have been doing more than 50 !
aircrest Posted July 11, 2004 Posted July 11, 2004 Hi ya ........."My bit"........The "Men" involved were Boys as we now know, they were also in a "curtousy Car" that was collected that day.........need we go any further ......I would also say that they were travelling at an extreme speed and not just an "excessive" one........ Enough on that one as its a very sad thing whatever the whys and wherefores etc !! I think whoever it was earlier has hit the nail on the head it is standards that are adrift here ...........not speed ! There should be Driving standards observers out and about educating these idiots that have no respect for anybody else but thereselves and even that is sometimes debatable....... Eg ..........A well known late Ferarri from the south ...........came up behind me on the TT course approaching Kirk Michael I had caught up with 3 cars in front of me way before he appeared from behind, I had already deemed the possible manhover "risky" and was trailing the cars. The "red idiot" proceeded to overtake me and the one in front of me and then "Push" his way in between 2 cars, and all this was without being able to see around the corner........ These are the sort of people that are creating these issues and spoiling it all for the majority of us that do respect others and their rights to use the roads as they wish to......IMHO of course Get some video unmarked plain ordinary cars out there and start educating these people not nicking them. nick em and cause resentment, warn them and get them to respect us others once again IMHO (for what thats worth) Obviously The Red devil (above) was and example and I could mention others a lot closer to home (as it were) as I'm sure we all could, but I believe the fact of the matter is simple, respect the roads and the other roadusers and these issues probably wouldn't be being disscussed now....... Respect is the issue not speed ............ Cheers all
Jimmy Mc Posted July 12, 2004 Author Posted July 12, 2004 Spotted! Impreza Turbo in Peel with 2 young lads in displaying "R" Plates.
Tearz Posted July 12, 2004 Posted July 12, 2004 Blue classic UK spec? Saw that in Ramsey last weekend. Ref. Old C/town road accident - exactly the same place the fatal Mx-5 crash was a year or two back :-( A sad loss.
aircrest Posted July 12, 2004 Posted July 12, 2004 Thats not even a year ago ...........the lads involved then were from KWC ........black MX5
Tearz Posted July 12, 2004 Posted July 12, 2004 I actually went down the road on Thurs about 30 mins before the crash, then was staying at my girlfriends house in C/town and heard the ambulances etc going up there. Road conditions were good at the time. Simply has to be down to driver inexperience / lack of knowledge of the road
RIO Posted July 12, 2004 Posted July 12, 2004 If you ask me, i think the new speed limit is a good idea..... IF YOU ARE A F***ING C**K SMOKER What is the F***ing point. We can all drive safely, and we know when to speed and when not to speed. As most of you have pointed out, most accidents are down to driver inexperience and lack of road knowledge. Speed is only a minor factor. How many of you have seen the boy racers with their £17,000 body kits on their £20 cars doing 70mph along the prom? That is who to blame for this, OAP's (god love them) who cannot see the bloody steering wheel let alone a corner in the rain and young drivers spoiling it for everyone else. it's B*LL*CKS
Cret Posted July 13, 2004 Posted July 13, 2004 << Sorry m8, missed your post Yes, go ahead and email whoever you think. The more the merrier m8 Cheers Jim >> Dude! Have got in touch with performance bike magazine & streetfighters magazine asking if they can make their readership aware of the petition website as per my email earlier. Was going to contact BSH too but can't see a contact email on their webby.
WRX IOM Posted July 13, 2004 Posted July 13, 2004 What about contacting MCN (motorcycle news) They would surely ad a story about the limit, if they havnt done already that is?
heazille Posted July 13, 2004 Posted July 13, 2004 I did about 3 weeks ago when the nolimit idea was going around i am also writing to various other mag's although i spoke to mcn direct u out for the Manx scooby fest at all? Ta Ta Richard
Cret Posted July 13, 2004 Posted July 13, 2004 Sorry Richard - didn't realise you'd been doing this. Don't want to tread on your toes! I only emailed Streetfighters & PB as I knew MCN had already done something & hadn't had time to look into others.
dooahhdoo Posted July 14, 2004 Posted July 14, 2004 Aye, just a few short of 2500 names now. If anyone is friendly with David Cretney do you want to see if he wants the names as he is ignoring my emails
