scooby sid
hi everyone, needing some help. today when i was out driving my 1999 impreza stalled twice. the first time was when i was slowing down for a roundabout had only been going around 30mph, the second i was just driving down the road doing around 30-40mph and it stalled again. on both times when the engine would not start for at least 2-5 mins but once started all was ok again. the car does not run or idle lumpy, it run fine when boosting u have no idea what it could be, i have heard that people say it could be position idle sensor, temp sensor or crank sensor. what are everyone thoughts thanks scoobysid. g1983
Was it a stall or a cut out? When slowing down and down shifting sounds like an idle issue, possible air flow issue. Normal maintained driving i dunno. Edited August 1, 2013 by G1983 Link to comment
Midnight21
Any cel light came on....maybe worthwhile checking codes (can't send link on iPhone but if you check scoobypedia it'll help you check) or maybe another member will send it Found it I had similar problem on my McRae and I'm sure it was idle position sensor ..... http://www.scoobypedia.co.uk/index.php/Knowledge/ReadingECUCodes Edited August 1, 2013 by midnight21 Link to comment
sti and
the engine would not start for at least 2-5 mins but once started all was ok again. Could it be anything to do with the fuel supply being cut somehow or maybe a immobiliser fault? Link to comment
scoobywho
I would say could be the fuel pump starting to fail, Link to comment
scooby sid
It just cuts out and dies.... and no engine light. Haven't checked the fault codes yet but will in the next hour or 2. It does look like possible Immobilizer problem. But still not sure. Link to comment

gbsti
Ok a few questions! Have you changed anything or serviced or modded anything recently? Does it do it when hot, cold or both? Did it die when in gear or when changing ? Graeme Link to comment
scooby sid
It has done it 4 times in the last 8 months. It has only done it when it's at normal running temperature. It has only done it when it's in gear. Haven't changed or modded anything. Link to comment
gbsti
Ok so I only does it when up to temp not whilst cold and cuts out when in gear. Does it do it under load or off throttle? No check engine light when it happens? Mmmm you said in 1st post it's a my99 now not to sound like every other post but it could be a faulty maf sensor as they are particularly weak on that year model. Does it have an induction kit or original filter and airbox?? That said the starting issue could be temp sensor? What would be great is if you could find someone local with same model car and swap bits over till you get a result!! Where about in the uk are you?? Graeme Link to comment
g1983
Its a uk turbo 2000 Graeme,i thought air flow issue too as the maf gets dirty too easy. Link to comment
gbsti
Thanks G especially as its a 99 model. They are reported to be the most fragile!! Link to comment
g1983
I had issues recently and know Barry had similar with the Fozzy. There are eBay mafs for £45, same code etc as oe, anyone heard about them Link to comment

scoobywho
Sounds like fuel, air would cause it to bog under load not just cut out, it would also be running rich if the maf sensor is away as the car learns to add more fuel to meet the demands. Link to comment
