got a hell of a scare the day. drove i nto aberdeen in my usaul rally style, and when car was ticking over on timer there was a hell of a rattle'knocking from under the bonnet. big ends??/ popped the bonnet and the crank pulley is wobbling all over the place. engine stops by now and when i put my hand on it the crank bolt was almost off!!!!!! went a bit weak at the knees at the thought of what the end result would have been if bolt had come out when i was nipping on. tightened it back up and seems ok just not sure why it worked loose tho

Check it regular, it may have damaged itself, the end of the crank or the key and could work loose

A few years back a local lad came to see me one night. His power steering had failed and alternator light was on, I said he'd probably snapped the belt. Opened up bonnet and not only no belt but no crank pulley either, luckily he still had the undertray fitted and the belt and pulley were on that.

It needed a replacement pulley and new key but the crank end was fine. He tells me he still checks it every week to this day

My rover was scrapped after the crank pulley retaining bolt bent and they wanted £150 for that assembly. I scrapped the car instead of fixing, was probably doing the world a favour.

aye rich. you and your big flash black motor. who do you think you are?....... gangsta? :rotfl: aye dave been a bit panicky after sandy termination so yes am away to look at a my99 with 380 brake. been written off as been rumbled all down the drivers side. will go and see how much the boys talking first. tho and am thinking of just getting a apexi and get mine running where i want it then get a engine to transplant everything over to the fresh engine. as for lewis....... rover................... nuff said

what sort of MY99 is it? if its at 380 might be worth buying for any tasty bits on it

If you need help with anything spec wise on the 380 car Alun, just give us a shout.

...and yes Dave a cream coloured rover 214 with very comfy dark grey cloth, electric everything and walnut effect dash trim. It was one of the last wedgy shaped before blobby shape.

cheers lewis . btw, cant beat some rover velourrrrrr seating . might do that. and thats what ive been thinking dave. wont know untill i go up to see it of excatly what it is. but if no paper work to prove anything then will steer clear. might just save my pennis and get a ecu and remap for the ra now then later buy and engine to throw everything straight over. unless this other car has all the bits to swap.
