scottishtaffy Posted May 16, 2013 Share Posted May 16, 2013 got a hell of a scare the day. drove i nto aberdeen in my usaul rally style, and when car was ticking over on timer there was a hell of a rattle'knocking from under the bonnet. big ends??/ popped the bonnet and the crank pulley is wobbling all over the place. engine stops by now and when i put my hand on it the crank bolt was almost off!!!!!! went a bit weak at the knees at the thought of what the end result would have been if bolt had come out when i was nipping on. tightened it back up and seems ok just not sure why it worked loose tho Link to comment

DR Motosport Posted May 17, 2013 Share Posted May 17, 2013 A few years back a local lad came to see me one night. His power steering had failed and alternator light was on, I said he'd probably snapped the belt. Opened up bonnet and not only no belt but no crank pulley either, luckily he still had the undertray fitted and the belt and pulley were on that. It needed a replacement pulley and new key but the crank end was fine. He tells me he still checks it every week to this day Link to comment
lewisscoob Posted May 17, 2013 Share Posted May 17, 2013 My rover was scrapped after the crank pulley retaining bolt bent and they wanted £150 for that assembly. I scrapped the car instead of fixing, was probably doing the world a favour. Link to comment

scottishtaffy Posted May 18, 2013 Author Share Posted May 18, 2013 cheers lewis . btw, cant beat some rover velourrrrrr seating . might do that. and thats what ive been thinking dave. wont know untill i go up to see it of excatly what it is. but if no paper work to prove anything then will steer clear. might just save my pennis and get a ecu and remap for the ra now then later buy and engine to throw everything straight over. unless this other car has all the bits to swap.
