Handbrake Tightening

Recommended Posts

The handbrake shoes inside the rear discs are self adjusting and have nothing to do with the calipers (unlike an audi or vw). If this is at the end of adjustment it will need new shoes and that's pretty rare to wear them out.

If the cable needs adjusting that is done under the handbrake with a 10mm spanner If that's at the end of adjustment, pack it with a few washers.

Will keep this in mind.

Handbrake shoes can be adjusted through a hole, the self adjusting system doesn't work very well, certainly not in the long term - then final adjustment can be made inside the car at the lever. Only needs stripped if adjusters are seized.

Will need to see if scoobywho knows this fix for when he helps me do the rear pads on the 350z and bleeds the brakes

Its not too bad just pop off the grommet if its still there and spin the wee adjuster manually, the rear shoes might be gubbed or cable needs taken up at the handbrake lever

If its your own car and if you haven't had them off before, I'd pop off the rear discs, have a look at the shoes, adjust properly and clean up the adjusters.

If i was a bit more experienced i would give this a shot but as i am new and a novice to all this and with it being the brakes i think i will need to get an expert to look at this.

Looks fairly simple and straightforward but i value my life and dont want to tinker with something i am not sure about.
